  1. It is too early for them to know anything definitively and, no, they didn't have antibiotics in 1918, however, if you read about that flu (see John Barry's book) you'll find experts do know an over active immune response occurred making the young and hale more suceptible and that is important to note with a novel virus as this one is confirmed to be. No one...
  2. It IS very frightening. We need to pay attention. The other anti-viral that seems to be working is called "Relenza" (sp?) Not sure on gluten status of it or Tamiflu... maybe someone else will post. lisa
  3. YES! That feeling of not getting a full breath and an abdomen full of hardened cement is ABSOLUTELY something I associate with gluten! I feel it right now for the first time in a year or more (suffering a huge suspected glutening right now...) And, I have been a runner for 35 years and dancer for 28 years... so I don't think it's cause I'm out of shape. ...
  4. Hi. We need to be concerned as we are overdue for a pandemic flu. Although, having read quite a bit on the 1918 flu (considered the world's worst) ; it is of note (and more concerning) that it appears that in that flu (as with this one as playing out in Mexico) the young were most at risk due to what is known (I think ) as a "cytokine storm"- that is, because...
  5. Thanks, Lisa- yes, I do know that yellow stool can be a symptom of other things, so I'll continue to monitor. It's just that it was a CLASSIC symptom of gluten for me and went away once gluten-free. lisa
  6. Thanks, Patti, I really feel yucky and it's no fun at work! Yes, Fage is one of my all-time favorite things! lisa
  7. Patti, Thank you! I only use the ground sage, dill, basil and oregano but I'm going to stop all of it now thanks to you and see if I can turn this corner. Neesee, thank you- I have been rolling over the diverticulosis thing in my mind but yellow stool (lovely, I know) is a very specific gluten symptom for me and I have it in spades. I guess I'll have to...
  8. Thank you both. Tarnalberry, I'm numb- what is a CT? lisa
  9. Hi everyone, I've been resisting posting because 1.) I don't want to complain when I've done so well for so long overall. ( 3 years) and, 2.) I've been desperately hoping things would get better, BUT, I'm really not well again and it's now lasting into 2 weeks! (It's not abating at all) When I hear hoofbeats I think horses and these really are gluten...
  10. Hi Patti, I'm always amazed at how similar my system seems to be to yours! Oh yes, and, I like red wine, too, but drink it more rarely as it sometimes gives me a headache. ( and I don't mean because of too much!) I think that has nothing to do with gluten. lisa
  11. Princesskill, I won't make a judgment on your boyfriend, but I do want to tell you this: I am working on 3 and 1/2 years gluten-free in a gluten-free house with (one now grown and away) daughter and a teenage son and my spousal equivalent of almost ten years brushes and flosses if he ever eats gluten (which is rare) BECAUSE- if we make love or deep kiss...
  12. White wine. It is my 'treat" thing and I actually think it helps with digestion. In moderation, whatever that means... lisa
  13. I'm so sorry for all this pain for you. I don't have anything brilliant to say but I do suspect that, in addition to whatever is at the root of the problem, your whole system has been assaulted by so many things that it will most likely take some time for you to be on the road to recovery. In the beginning when I was diagnosed through bloodwork (positive...
  14. Yay! That's wonderful- good luck to you in your increasing good health! lisa
  15. Brianna, I'm sorry you are feeling so badly! I'll probably be no help but, being someone who doesn't believe in the way America overmedicates itself, I can't help but think you should take yourself off all of those things and try one tried and true food at a time, add things in one at a time while keeping a detailed food log with symptoms. Too many veggies...
  16. Okay, I'm a bit loathe to say it because some of us like to keep Maine our own little secret, but, Portland, Me. is very good. BUT we have lots of snow and long winters and there's ice and you probably wouldn't like it here... (Heh, heh, heh.....)) lisa
  17. Melissa, I am almost three years in as well and I think this is happening to me, too, although I'm not certain and I'm too terrified of gluten to deliberately ingest it and test my theory. Others will post but I think I've read others remarking on the same thing. lisa
  18. Thank you, Patti and Jestgar- just checking! Yikes, the "poop" thing kind of makes ya think twice about tossing them raw into a salad, eh? lisa
  19. I drink water and sometimes hot water with raw sugar in it, coffee on weekends, sometimes V8, Minute maid OJ (occasionally) and white wine. lisa
  20. Hi everyone, I think I'm reverting to a paranoid state re: gluten. At some point in the last few weeks I was perusing a thread and thought I saw something about mushrooms potentially being problematic for the super-sensitive because they're grown on straw? Any veracity to that? Anyone? Especially the highly sensitive? thank you, lisa
  21. I am supremely sensitive to gluten. Pretty positive I don't react to Mccormick's. 4 Years in I am very aware of the difference between reactions to my various intolerances. Thanks for the info, though. I wonder if your skin reaction is to the specific spice- that would make sense, I think. lisa
  22. Thanks, Jestgar. lisa
  23. Hi- wow! Lots happening on this thread... I apologize ahead of time for not having time to read through this entire thread, but, am I to understand that McCormick spices are not dedicated and absolutely gluten-free? Sorry to make anyone repeat! Sounds like a zillion issues are being addressed here. I suppose it could explain some mysterious glutenings...
  24. It's so interesting to see what everyone does to make a living. I've been a professional actor (stage, film,TV and radio), director and teacher of acting at all levels for 35 years. For the past 8 years I have also been a Special Educator in a behavioral program for students with emotional disabilities in a public high school whose goal is to ameliorate...
  25. I'd remove the rice. Working on 4 yrs in, I still cannot tolerate cooked rice. Tinkyada, yes, but not every day-weird, I know. In fact, I'd remove all processed food, cook everything whole for weeks and once I feel better, slowly add things in ONE thing at a time- giving yourself time to react. Slow and tedious, but really helps getting to the bottom of what...
