  1. Wow, great information on here. I would like to visit that foundation website, and try the slippery elm. I supplement with L-glutamine which, along with a 12-straing pro-biotic seem to really help. I know what you are saying Skylark with 'listening to your body', but you have to admit, it is not easy to always discern what the culprit is.... good luck...
  2. Lisa79, I would suggest checking out the Dr. Loren Cordain stuff online. He writes "The Paleo Diet" series. He does such an awesome job at explaining what lectins are in which foods, and how they affect the body. He also explains why the eat right for your type diet is off base, and why it would not work for anyone with celiac if they were to eat gluten,...
  3. I have found much in my research in terms of "leaky gut" culprits... not only to be the gluten in wheat, barley, and rye, but also things like the nightshade family of plants (potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers)due to their saponin content. Also any legumes (soy, peanuts, beans), eggs (due to their lysozyme content), the grains quinoa and amaranth, and alfalfa...
  4. is living the dream, and feeling good!

  5. David and Voss, great discussion here! I've been gluten-free for about 5 years and still am looking into 2ndary allergies or intolerances. I have just heard about Histame and plan on buying it for sure... I just got blood work done and both soy and yeast are culprits for me... I decided to just eat the caveman diet (www.thepaleodiet.com) and when I can muster...
  6. Hey Liveenjoylife, the comment about blood cells makes me want to ask you and anyone else here... anyone ever get a low white blood count blood draw result with everything else (including no fever, etc) fine? I had one recently with my physical and know I was just coming off of an episode of being glutened, etc. I read someplace on Dr. Laura Power's website...
  7. I can only imagine that the refridgerated probiotics are better as they are much less processed than the shelf pills... also, as far as vitamins, I've just picked up some great vitamines from BetterHealth that are soy, corn, gluten, dairy, and shellfish free... so far so good, and they do have the D3 and multiple B's.... As far as digestive enzymes - I...
  8. Lisa79, almost forgot about the supplement part. Don't know if you know about Dr. Kenneth Cooper (father of aerobics movement), but just started to take 1000mg of Vit. D a day and 1gram of omega 3 oil a day. Along with this, I do take 4 oz. of a juice called MonaVie and I feel that I am pretty good vitamin wise, etc.... but for the most part, the paleo way...
  9. Lisa79... I am heading down that path right now! Been gluten-free the best that I can since 2006 and it has helped for the most part. Recently I've noticed, for whatever reason, sensitivities to other foods. On this site there is a great link to Dr. Krispin's Lectin Report (www.krispin.com/lectin.html). I started out just eating by way of Dr. Cordain's Paleo...
  10. Don't forget to avoid barley and rye as well - this site addresses it all, but since you said you are new to this, realize that gluten comes in many forms.... I too never had blood tests, but with elimination have seen a night and day type improvement, even though I didn't always seem to get the symptoms before I found out.... There could be other food...
  11. I just got back from the ROYAL Playa del Carmen (a resort in Playa del Carmen, owned by Real Resorts - www.realresorts.com) and had 5 fabulous days of gluten-free eating. They had 7 resturants and I was able to eat at every one. I emailed ahead and got a hold of Edwin, the head of Food and Drinks for the ROYAL in Playa del Carmen and in Cancun. He and his...
  12. Once I found out I had to go gluten-free, I basically followed a Paleolithic diet and got strong quick, but didn't build size as much... how much cardio do you do a week? I lift 5 days, and run M-W-F with S/S off. I found that kept my weight moderate to steady for almost a year. But with all the protein, I increased size slowly, but stregnth quickly. Zero...
  13. Just wondering if anyone out there has experienced one particular animal meat that seems to cause problems for them - almost like getting glutened??? I am suspecting some venison from a deer I got this past fall. Each time I eat either steaks or roasts from it (all seasoned/cooked with gluten-free ingredients), I get glutened-type reactions. Though not...
  14. You know, until I went gluten-free and DF (well since I am a chocolate lover too, 85% DF ) I didn't ever quite feel right. I now follow strictly (again, except for the occassional chocolate or Snickers bar) a Paleolithic Diet.... it is similar to protein diets, but made more sense to me. I follow Cordain's version, but I am going to switch to Protein Power...
  15. I enjoy everyone's take on either gaining muscle or maintaining weight. I personally eat a Paleo diet (no grains and no dairy in a nutshell...) and it took a while for me to "regulate". Needing to be gluten-free and thus having less access to carbs, I supplement with 100% egg protien, take the l-glutamine 500mg 2x per day (on lifting days only though), and...
  16. LoriCF, great comment, and I totally agree! I can't have gluten and suspect dairy (but will reintro some day to check for sure). Been gluten-free since May 06 and dairy since Aug 28th. I follow the Paleo Diet by Cordain, which some like and some don't, but I have had the same troubles with calories I think. I have stabalized weight to what my body probably...
  17. I am going to buy both books, but on his website thepaleodiet.com/faqs, he states "We go on record as stating that Pre-Agricultural people ate few or no grains, however we have never suggested that they did not eat tubers." Like I said, I am buying the book this weekend, and I think I'll compare it with BTVC too (which I will try to find). Then, my master...
  18. Nancym, Well 1/2 way through my first day Paleo'ing it and because I just went gluten-free about 2 months ago, my will power is still high. I am pretty excited to see how it might change me.... as I hear alot about the success stories out there. I have always been sceptical about Atkins, just due to the cheese and high fat and salt content, and reading...
  19. Dr. Loren Cordain's book, the Paleo Diet, seems the way to go. Just spent about an hour reading his website and I am buying into it. I am sick and tired of getting TAG'd (totally ate gluten!). Since I planned on doing an elimination diet, this seems like the easiest way to start it. Anyone have a doctor recommend this book?
  20. I see at https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-59106423443.ff (Celiac.com's safefood list) that vanillin is listed as safe.... I have been pretty gluten-free when I stick to this list...
  21. Yes, I followed your link and it was very helpful. I have not done the elimination diet yet because of a follow up with my GI in 2 weeks. However, I might be fortunate enough to be gluten-free only, but time will tell.... anyone know if following the South Beach diet correlates with being gluten-free and Lectin free? I see dairy would be a problem, but maybe...
  22. Roxanne, interested in the Diet Coke.... my wife has a wheat allergy (not intollerance) and her allergist said the carmel color in Coke was off limits for her allergy. I haven't tried Diet Coke since I went gluten-free... no reaction with you? This could be good news! For me, it is "I'm Gluten-free, But I'm So Glad I Don't Have To Give Up Chocolate and...
  23. I agree - partake too much and the next day get the results. During the drinking though, after the first glass of a nice red (white is too often aged in Oak and I just don't prefer Oak flavor in my wine) I sometimes feel the flush feeling (almost like an instant effect), but I always thought that was due to cutting out all other alcohol (I miss ice cold beer...
  24. I am Catholic, a US citizen, a human, and a Celiac (share a lot in common with all of you, and not as much with some), and don't need to say anymore than thank you to Raven, CarlaB, and Canadian Karen - keeping an open mind and steering this forum back to helping us all deal with our common ailment is appreciated.
  25. I eat lots of yogurt (but as of yet know if I am dair intol as well).... it seems to help me out. The BRATS diet works too. Hey, sidebar, anyone ever do the probiotics? I just bought some Multidophilus 12 (Solaray) as it appears all gluten-free. I just know that if yogurt helps when I am feeling bad, maybe a supplement like that can help all the time....
