  1. Yes, celiac can cause malabsorption of vitamins and minerals, and recurring canker sores are one of the many symptoms associated with celiac (but can be associated with other health issues too.) Testing for iron and B12 should be pretty standard even for a regular yearly blood workup. Personally, I'd get blood testing done for the celiac panel, thyroid function...
  2. I don't buy frozen turkeys anymore. I rarely have enough room in my fridge to thaw a bird for 2 whole days, plus I usually found that 2 days wasn't enough and I stuggled to finish defrosting the morning before popping it into the oven. I now always buy fresh! I simply place an order for the turkey ahead of time, and the grocery store keeps it for me...
  3. Check out this notation from the Kellogg's UK website (it's from a page listing Open Original Shared Link): Please note that only the cereals listed above have been removed - although Kellogg Rice Krispies, Ricicles and Coco Pops contain malt flavouring they fall well within the international Codex Standard of 200ppm All of those products contain malt...
  4. Rice Krispies contain malt, which I believe is derived from barley...so it's not safe. There are gluten free brands of rice crisps available. Michelle
  5. Recurrent canker sores can be caused by vitamin deficiencies (iron, folic acid, vitamin B12.) Has your son had his levels tested? Is he taking any supplements? Michelle
  6. I thought you were in Calgary, Carrie. Where are you located now? The Edmonton area has had snow since before Halloween. Unfortunately, the blanket of snow is now dirty with gravel and salt from the roads, and my clothes keep getting dirty from leaning into the car to buckle my kids up! Michelle
  7. Visiting Banff and Jasper is great. Living with 6 months of winter just isn't postcard picture perfect, and hard to enjoy when it's -30C and you still have to get the kids to school, go to work, etc. The hours of darkness in the winter are depressing too, but, where I live, we get many hours of sunlight in the summer months...At the peak, it's light...
  8. Could it be plantar warts? Though gluten-free likely would have no affect on it. Michelle
  9. Some people are sensitive not to the latex, but to the chemicals used to make the latex product. So it could be a reaction to anything on or in the latex gloves (the powder can be suspect as well.) You can ask that the dentist use vinyl, unpowdered gloves next time and see if it makes a difference. Michelle
  10. I seem to have a constant sore throat...as if I'm on the verge of a cold that never really hits full force! I also have ear pain that coincides, and when I do get a cold I tend to have sinus pain and toothache as well. This time of year, and spring, is especially bad...I believe that mold and mildew play a big role for me. Doesn't hurt to go to a Dr to...
  11. Finally! After I found out about my "new" allergies and sensitivities, I've found it very frustrating to not have info on the products I already own...and frustrating to not see a list of ingredients when I'm at the store. This will help a lot. Michelle
  12. It is entirely possible that it's not UC, but it is also possible you have both celiac and UC, or just UC. If you are gluten free for some time before testing it will affect the results. That said, a lot of people here choose to test with Enterolab (Open Original Shared Link)...those tests are unaffected by a gluten free diet...worth checking out! Michelle
  13. Sirius is a satellite radio network. You need to subscribe, and have a receiver to hear it. Michelle
  14. It's spelled faux pas. I would definitely do further investigation about celiac disease, if the diet is working well, keep it up. If diagnosis is important to you, then talk to your doctor about it. In the meantime, I highly recommend reading Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic by Peter H.R. Green, Rory Jones. It goes into detail about the disease, diagnosis...
  15. For Mac OSX users, IE is a problem and always has been. Microsoft has stopped making and supporting it for Mac anyway so it doesn't really matter. Safari and Firefox both work well on a Mac as does QuickTime...I had no troubles viewing the videos in Safari 2.0.4 Firefox is apparently a good browser across all platforms. Michelle
  16. From what I could find the program, Your Health, is on "FamilyNet" which is a radio station on the Sirius Nework. This is what it says about the channel on the homepage: FamilyNet Radio, the Voice of Christian Talk on SIRIUS, is now on Channel 161 as part of SIRIUS' new Faith and Family Group. I was unable to locate specific information on the TV broadcast...
  17. Don't throw the food out...take it back for a refund! Michelle
  18. Open Original Shared Link, by Boiron is a liquid homeopathic teething product. Essentially has the same active ingredients as the Hyland's, but has no lactose or gluten. I found it to be a superior product to the Hyland's tablets as well. Boiron is a very good name for all sorts of homeopathic preparations. Michelle :-)
  19. I did no bashing or "smashing down" in my responses, yet was accused of being prejudiced, that I have a personal problem with the question, that I am "offended on the behalf of a pig," and that I am belligerent. Who exactly was being nasty here? Michelle
  20. Cows can easily get sick/die from the wrong feed. There was an incident just last year where a cattle farm went into receivership (due to the whole mad cow thing) and the agency responsible did not use the correct feed mix...quickly lost a lot of cattle. Michelle
  21. Happy Birthday, Tiffany! Enjoy your biscotti! Michelle
  22. It's important that you are comfortable with the method of treatment. Have you tested your son for allergies or intolerances? We're still trying to figure out my son's intolerances, and will push for complete allergy testing (he's only been tested and confirmed for severe penicillin allergy). We tried going dairy free with some success (my son seemed...
  23. That's a good argument if you live in Calgary (it was really nice being close to Banff when I lived there,) but the argument doesn't work for those of us in the Edmonton area...we're 4 hours away from the nearest mountains! Michelle
  24. It is working fine for me...I'm on a Mac w/OSX, and browsing with Safari. Michelle
  25. If he is having runny stools, then is it actually constipation? Is he feeling the sudden need to have a bowel movement, but nothing happens? Is he having stomach cramping before the need to have a movement? Is it possible this is not constipation, but an intolerance reaction (lactose intolerance for example)? I know from my own intolerance reactions, that...
