ARCHIVED Granola Bars
bbuster replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get Zone Bars at WalMart. You can get them individually or in a box of 5, for about $1 each. At WalMart, they are usually in the Pharmacy area near the vitamins and diet stuff. -
ARCHIVED Granola Bars
bbuster replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Since I have not checked in awhile, I thought I would revisit this issue, so I called them today. The customer service rep told me that the bars are made on shared equipment and some bars have gluten ingredients. When I asked further if she had information on how they change from one product to another, she found information stating that all the equipment... -
ARCHIVED Granola Bars
bbuster replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
These are not Granola Bars per se, but I buy Zone Perfect bars. They have several kinds that are gluten-free, including Fudge Graham (despite the name - they are gluten-free). When I called their phone number (1-800-666-6830) the person who answered was very knowledgeable and was able to tell me which flavors were and were not gluten-free. I like this... -
ARCHIVED I Know It's Here, But I Can't Find Easy Flatbread Recipe

OK - I have to know - what is a fluffer-nutter sandwich? I am impressed with your creativity! -
ARCHIVED I Know It's Here, But I Can't Find Easy Flatbread Recipe
bbuster replied to IMWalt's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It wasn't me, but here is a recipe I use that is really good. Don't know if it's the same one you were looking for or not. Flat Bread for sandwich wraps 1 cup sorghum flour 1/2 cup tapioca starch 2 Tbsp sugar 2 tsp xanthan gum 1 Tbsp yeast 1/2 tsp salt 3/4 cup water 1 tsp cider vinegar 2 Tbsp olive oil... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Waffles

Pamela's Ultimate Baking and Pancake Mix makes really good waffles - recipe on the package. -
I have done limited substituting with Pamela's mix (although the few things I make with it, I really like), but if my recipe said 3 cups of flour, I would use 3 cups of Pamela's, and not add any salt or baking soda/powder listed in the recipe (because they are already in the mix).

ARCHIVED Gluten-free On The Go
bbuster replied to micahjelinek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I keep a stash of Zone Perfect bars in my desk for times when I forget or don't have time for a real lunch. They have several kinds that are gluten-free. I like this brand because they have a lot of protein, not just a lot of carbs, and they fill you up pretty well. -
ARCHIVED Who Has The Best Cake Mix
bbuster replied to Chrissyb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have used Pamela's Ultimate Pancake & Baking mix in my old carrot cake recipe with excellent results. Just sub the mix for the flour, baking soda and salt. I use store-bought icing, but you can make your own with cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar. -
ARCHIVED Your Favorite Cake Recipe
bbuster replied to stolly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That looks really good. I'm always looking for recipes to use extra egg yolks (leftover from bread and pizza). -
ARCHIVED Your Favorite Cake Recipe

This is my son's favorite - he's all about chocolate. Bette Hagman's recipe. Featherlight Chocolate Cake 1 3/4 cup featherlight flour mix 1/2 tsp Xanthan gum 2 cups sugar 3/4 cup cocoa 1 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla 1 cup sour cream 1 cup boiling water beat eggs, add sour cream and vanilla... -
ARCHIVED Restaurants In Kansas City
bbuster replied to wheatlessAK's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Definitely go to Waldo Pizza. My son's favorite! There is a place called Grand St. Cafe. I have never been there (it's on my list) but have heard that you can get gluten free sandwiches and pasta there. I think it is in the Plaza area. They have a website. -
ARCHIVED What About My Son?
bbuster replied to Emilysmomma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it would be prudent to test the whole family. My son was diagnosed with Celiac at age 10. He never had any GI symptoms. The reason I had him tested was that he was so short. His TTg bloodwork was positive, so we followed up and had an endoscopy, and that showed damage as well. Now he has had negative bloodwork for 3 years, and it turns out... -
ARCHIVED Best Nut Free Pancake Mix?
bbuster replied to stolly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't have the box in front of me, but Maple Grove Farms makes a very good gluten-free pancake mix that I don't think has nuts. It is quite reasonably priced as well. -
In a hurry - I misspelled - should be andreasfinefoods

I am not from the St. Louis area, but I came across this and have it on my list to check out next time I visit my brother. It's called Andreas Fine Foods and is a gluten-free bakery, I think in Chesterfield. website: anderasfinefoods

ARCHIVED Domata Living Flour
bbuster replied to taweavmo3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, we are on our 4th or 5th 5-lb bag and I really like it. I made Tollhouse choc chip cookies (pan style) using the recipe right off the Nestle's bag and just used this flour, added maybe an extra 1/4 cup and they were GREAT! I used some for carrot cake and it came out good - many compliments from non-celiacs at work that I shared it with. I... -
I use Domata and really like it. Have not tried it for pizza (I like Bette Hagman's recipe), but it makes the best Tollhouse cookie bars I have ever had! I've also used it for carrot cake, and the biscuits are pretty good too!

ARCHIVED Tips For A Mixed Kitchen
bbuster replied to Breila's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I also have a son with Celiac - daughter, husband and I don't have it. People have varying opinions about cookware. Some get rid of everything and get all new. I got rid of older Teflon skillets which were scratched. I kept most of my old cookware, but bought just a few new things I make sure only are used for gluten-free cooking, such as some baking... -

ARCHIVED Just Sharing Some Sites I Found, gluten-free Cooking One, And A Flax Recipes

Intestesing - I did not know that. Next time I had a checkup my bloodwork was great - HDL was down into the good range, but that was only one data point. Will keep your comments in mind. In general I'm a pretty healthy eater. -
ARCHIVED Hershey Candy
bbuster replied to celiacsucks's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hershey's plain chocolate bars used to be considered safe. But there have been changes in their company. I don't know if they have changed what they are actually doing, or just what they tell people. But, HERSHEY MINIATURES ARE DEFINITELY NOT SAFE. I used to think the plain bars were OK, even though they are in a package with Krackle, which have barley... -
Hi, Since the first post was so long here's another specific to Silver Dollar City. I don't have info on Branson Belle. This is an e-mail written to me by a lady who runs a Celiac support group in the Branson area. It was written 9/18/07. Long post but good first-hand information. Our family went to Branson Landing last September and ended up eating at Famous Dave's (BBQ). I called ahead and the manager was very knowledgeable. ------------------------------------...

ARCHIVED Just Sharing Some Sites I Found, gluten-free Cooking One, And A Flax Recipes
bbuster replied to Ivanna44's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Since I have discovered flax seed, I throw it into just about everything I bake - bread, cookies, waffles, pizza, etc. And I like to sprinkle some on top of my morning yogurt. I do not have Celiac (my son does), but at my last checkup the doc said my HDL was a little high and suggested fish oil tablets for Omega 3. I took them for a little while until...
