    ARCHIVED Taco Bell

Well, last night my son went to Taco Bell for the 2nd time in a week to get Cantina steak tacos, so I guess he likes them too! I assumed they would be hard shell, but they are soft corn tortillas with steak and whatever else in them.
  2. No Mexican food - you're killing me (just kidding!) OK, some other things we do when we get together with friends veggie tray and dip gluten-free chips/dip mixed nuts sliced tomatoes, drizzle with balsalmic vinegar, top with fresh basil and sliced mozzarella never tried it yet, but you can make gluten-free Chex Mix gluten-free meatballs are...
  3. I think a Mexican theme would be easy - taquitos, taco bar, chips and salsa, cheese dip, and of course (at my house anyway) margaritas! If you want to cook you could make an enchilada casserole or maybe a crock pot of chili.
  4. I agree! This is great advice. (I still have trouble with my spouse's awareness sometimes!) I was going to answer that my daughter understands and is very aware and attuned to being gluten-free even though her brother has Celiac and no one else in our family does. But she is only 13 so she can not date!! But seriously, a nice person who truly cares...
  5. OMG - now we have gone from cruel (first post) to outright VICIOUS! It breaks my heart to think that any child would have to go through this kind of crap - as if all of the physical, social and emotional issues of Celiac aren't bad enough! I hope there is some silver lining here in terms of what doesn't kill you makes you stronger; but I would run,...
  6. This is not exactly what you asked, but consider trying ZonePerfect Bars. Not all flavors are gluten-free, but several are, including Double Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Caramel Cluster, Chocolate Graham (despite the name) and Chocolate Almond Raisin. They have a lot of protein and can satisfy a chocolate fix. My teenage son is the only Celiac in the...

    ARCHIVED Taco Bell

News to me but I'm sure my son would like to give them a try - thanks for the tip!! Anytime I have the chance I try to "suggest" (on-line comments, suggestion box, etc.) to Taco Bell to have some gluten-free foods. Once I even did a marketing survey where they were promoting the Charles Barkley value deals and when it showed a bunch of ads and asked...
  8. The number one thing my son missed is pizza. It took me a long time (and many disappointing tries) to get a good pizza crust. Now I have a recipe I love and make it practically every week. But we love to eat out as a family, and to be able to go out and have gluten-free pizza is such a treat for my teenage son. After that, I would say rolls and...
  9. I'm sure everyone's Reputation will be soaring now!
  10. Interesting....thanks. Another of life's great mysteries solved! Have a good one!
  11. I don't spend a lot of time in the "profile" part of the board. Just curious as to significance of the number in the Reputation field.
  12. That's awesome for your daughter, and this will help build your confidence on dealing with future issues. Way to go!
  13. So did you sub sweet rice flour for all the rice flour, or some sort of blend? I have some sweet rice flour in my pantry that I bought by mistake, just looking for a place to go!
  14. I agree - everyone in our house hates the taste of bean flours. I will add a tiny amount (like 1 tsp to 3 cups of other flour) to bread, because it helps it hold together. I love Pamela's - it's great for waffles, cookies, cakes, etc - but I never thought of using it for a lot of things because it has so much "stuff" in it - baking powder, baking soda...
  15. I second the nomination for Domata if you want to buy a premixed, all purpose type of flour. It has an excellent taste, and it has Xanthan gum in it already so you can just sub it for regular flour in most things. And it originates from Missouri, like me!!
  16. This is correct - they can tell by a hand X-Ray. If your plates have not fused (in other words if there is still space between the bones) then you can still grow. Some conditions, such as Celiac, can delay your growth, meaning you could still have time left to grow, and often going gluten-free will increase your growth rate as your body is healing, as opposed...
  17. We are already back, but we did find Sami's Bakery in my pre-trip research. My husband took our son there (he's the only Celiac in the family) and they came back with a small pan of brownies. I was laughing because it said it served 16, and was maybe 6 X 8 inches total, but then I took a small bite and it was so fantastically rich, a few bites with a big...
  18. wow - thanks! I'll check it out next time.
  19. I first learned about Waldo Pizza (Kansas City) from this forum, not too long after my son was diagnosed with Celiac. I was thrilled to find out they had a location in Lee's Summit, same town where my in-laws live. We made it a point to eat there on the next trip to visit grandma. At that time, they did not have the gluten-free pizza on the menu - you...
  20. I sent Zio's a comment asking if they had gluten-free pizza or were planning to. I was excited to get this response from their regional manager (Tulsa, OK) We most certainly do have a Gluten Free Menu available... I have attached a copy for you. I would also like to share that we are currently testing gluten free pasta that will allow us to serve a...
  21. I do love gyros, but my son is the only Celiac in the family and he has never had one. Whenever my husband and I go out to eat without the kids, I usually ask about gluten-free offerings to see if it's a place we can bring my son, and also just to show there is customer interest.
  22. I asked at our local gyro place and they said their meat did have gluten. I did not ask for any specifics.
  23. I don't know where you live - I'm in Springfield, Missouri -- not a big city, but not a small town either. I can find white rice flour, tapioca flour and potato starch at an Asian market (we have 3 in Springfield) all for about $1/lb (no shipping). I buy ground flax seed at Wal-Mart for under $2 a 12 oz box (Hodgson Mill). Freshly ground is probably...
  24. I would suggest you get Roben Ryberg's bread recipe. I would post it, but I don't have it any more. I originally got her book from our local library. All (if I remember correctly) of her recipes only use corn starch, potato starch, and of course little bit of xanthan gum (if you are baking) for the flour mix. I have graduated to making a more complicated...
