  5. That recipe looks great - I'm going to have to try it. I still have a can of lekvar (prune filling) in my cupboard from two years ago, think it's still good? Would it be okay if I share this recipe on the AllergicJews Yahoo group? (Open Original Shared Link) I would give you credit obviously... Let me know .... I'm sure all the gluten-free Jewish folks...
  6. Hi all - There area few challah recipes and some discussion of how to make gluten-free challah posted on AllergicJews: Open Original Shared Link (Hope that link works) I still haven't tried making challah because I"m so afraid of being disappointed
  7. Do you all think it's possible to make this without a mixer? I don't have a stand mixer (yet) and my electric hand mixer probably won't hold up to dough. Can I just use a wooden spoon and then knead it by hand?
  8. Hi all, I am looking for a bread recipe that meets the following requirements: - Gluten-free (obviously) - No cane sugar, preferably no sweeteners at all but I'd be okay with a little agave nectar or something - Preferably mostly whole grain - Can be made without a bread machine Does anyone have a recipe that meets these requirements? Many people...
  9. That is sad, Cougar. But there is apparently a baker in Highland that makes gluten-free goodies on Wednesdays (not sure what they do to protect from cross-contamination though) and there is an alternative baker in Kingston that makes gluten-free stuff...

  15. It's super easy to make cashew sour cream (dairy free) at home and it tastes just like the real thing: Open Original Shared Link
  16. Covsooze - It's actually not that much egg given the amount of total batter. The pancakes aren't very eggy tasting and don't have an eggy consistency because Oonce grated, 1 lb of parsnips plus 1 plus pound of carrots and one very large onion makes a huge amount of batter. You could reduce it by one egg, but I wouldn't use less than 2 eggs. It's hard enough...
  17. There is a yahoo group called vegetariangf of Yahoo groups that is about vegetarianism and gluten-free living. You may find this helpful. I eat about 90% vegetarian. I eat meat or fish about twice a week (trying to find ways to eat more fish, though). I get plenty of nutrients. It's harder to do so when gluten-free, but certainly not impossible at all...

  19. Hi all, I made delicious donuts yesterday, including some that were jelly donuts. I thought I'd share the recipe because I haven't seen very many good gluten-free donut recipes out there and have never seen a jelly donut one. This is a traditional Chanukah food I thought I could never eat again - But I was wrong! They turned out great. There are pictures...
  20. I have done a lot of gluten-free baking, but have mostly stuck to muffins and cakes. I am wondering if the general mixes I use for muffins and cakes will also work for cookies. What flour mixes would be best for making chewy cookies? Crunchy butter or sugar cookies? (Recipes for basic butter or sugar cookies would also be welcome) I am afraid the cake...
  21. Here are two recipes that use coconut flour: Pumpkin Muffins Open Original Shared Link Coconut Blueberry Muffins Open Original Shared Link My experience is that it tastes really good but it has a certain kind of texture that lends itself best to being mixed with other flours. 25. My parents are the best - They accomodated both my being kosher and my being gluten-free (the second more strictly than the first). They took the time to go and find gluten-free bread and cake mix at the store before I flew in. It seems like they really "get it". I'm so blessed. I ate: -Roasted kosher turkey with Earth Balance margarine and herbs stuffed...
