  1. Now that I think back on my own experience, it occurred to me that many of my symptoms changed over time. For the first 15 years or so, I had excruciating stomach pain after eating but no diarrhea. That didn't kick in until the week I got really sick and started my dramatic weight loss. It was really weird that the stomach pain went away towards the end...
  2. When I purchased my Bi-Aglut from the Italian importer, the Le Veneziane brand was another one he recommended and said some customers actually prefer that one over Bi-Aglut. It must be pretty good pasta to make that claim! All I know is thank God for the Italians and their gift of good gluten-free pasta making!
  3. The only difference is that some wheat may contain less gluten that others but that is usually the result of hybridization or modifying the plant. Gluten is gluten is gluten and whatever amount eaten by someone with Celiac/GS is an absolute no-no, unless you are into damaging your intestinal tract. It is never OK to go on vacation and eat whatever you want...
  4. I would agree with you on this! After having the Bi-Aglut, there aren't many others I can tolerate, as far as taste goes. It also holds up well if used in a casserole in the oven.....doesn't get all mushy and fall apart. It is very expensive but if you want true pasta flavor, Bi-Aglut is it. I think the secret is they use lupini bean flour in the recipe...
  5. I know this isn't easy in this economy but is it possible for you to find another job? I find it ridiculous that anyone would be reprimanded for going to the bathroom too much, unless they stayed in there for half a day or something. I think I just wouldn't want to work for a company who treated me like that! You can pull the ADA routine on them but sometimes...
  6. There should be no reason why you cannot serve as juror having Celiac Disease. Pack your own lunch as this is allowed and it will be better than anything they will provide. You may not even be chosen but if you are, unless they are sequestering the jury, Celiac is not a valid excuse.
  7. I just switched (today) to a compounded form of T3/T4, similar to Armour Thyroid. It is compounded at American Hormones in NY state. The beauty of this is that they compound it to your exact needs so it's gluten-free status is never in question. It was also very inexpensive.....a 2 month supply cost me $36.00, with shipping! It was also compounded as slow...
  8. It is FAR too early to be re-tested for antibodies and do not assume you are ingesting gluten. It can take up to 2 years for antibodies to come down to normal levels. FYI....I do not screen topical products for gluten, except for those products which go on my lips. The gluten molecule is too large to pass through the skin so unless you get something in...
  9. I don't think there is hatred for people who refuse to change in small ways or to help, on occasion, when a Celiac comes to visit. I think you are generalizing on that one yourself. From my own experience, and I am an emotionally tough person to begin with, it is extremely hurtful when family members treat you like a second class citizen because you cannot...
  10. I find your doctor's unwillingness to read a test report for what it shows simply appalling! Your test results are more than a weak positive, they are flamingly positive for Celiac Disease. But this is how the American system works. You do not need an endo for a diagnosis at this point but I can understand if you want to go for the works. Many people need...
  11. This is exactly what I meant, Tim, and thanks for putting it better than I did. There are ways to measure villi damage and how much exposure will cause it. I am one of the lucky ones who are uber sero-positive so have a point of reference to refer back to. I also am about as sensitive a Celiac as they come and cannot tolerate gluten, period. However, no...
  12. I look forward to what the company tells you. Things can change very suddenly so maybe Synthroid's issues with gluten-free status have changed and it is now gluten-free. Maybe you can convince them to lower their prices also!
  13. I think the medical profession has pretty much established at what level gluten will trigger an autoimmune reaction. Most of the books written by the top Celiac experts have discussed this. I will have to look the number up to make sure I have the correct information but I am sure that at 5 PPM, gluten is not a problem. This is why most of the proposed labeling...
  14. You may want to call the company who makes Synthroid to double check on that. Whether they have corrected things or not is important....maybe they received enough phone calls to make them re-formulate Synthroid. The reason I say this is just because someone isn't having a problem doesn't mean they aren't sustaining damage. Many people are not that symptomatic...
  15. I understand your frustration and after having had to take a prescription med recently, I went on a rant to the doctor about why it shouldn't be THIS hard to find out gluten-free status on a drug. If you get sick on the week-end, all the companies are closed and you cannot call them. The doctor was amazed Celiacs have to go through this much BS to take a...
  16. That is VERY interesting what your docs said about Levoxyl and the TSH going up and down. That is the problem I am having now and am not sure now if the Levoxyl is contributing to it. I have been under a tremendous amount of stress this year, on many levels, and thought that the stress was wreaking havoc on my immune system, thus affecting my thyroid. I also...
  17. This is excellent advice and the right way to look at this learning experience. I don't think most doctors, even the arrogant ones, intentionally set out to harm anyone. I have been amazed over the past 4 1/2 years at how utterly ignorant medical people can be regarding Celiac Disease. I have gotten to the point where if someone does not have Celiac Disease...
  18. Don't sweat your WBC...it is a sign of AI diseases and may never go into the normal range. It only matters if you are becoming ill all the time. I rarely catch a cold now that I am gluten-free so I never think about the count.
  19. I know that fatigue well but I can promise you that if you are a good doobie and eat well and entirely gluten-free, that will get so much better. It may take a little while for your body to recover but seeing as you are into fitness, it may happen faster than others. Be patient with all this but you will get better!
  20. Those numbers are very high but there should be a reference range on the test results which give normal ranges. My own results were about the same as these so I would say it looks like you'll be joining the club! Your gliadin results show reaction to gluten in your blood stream, while your tTg results show intestinal damage. It's up to you whether or not...
  21. Jason, Treatment for an allergy is entirely different than treatment for an intolerance. Any respectable allergist will not give any wheat containing solutions to anyone with celiac......period. With allergies, you can give small amounts of the offending agent, in a prepared solution like allergy shots, in the hopes of retraining your immune system...
  22. No, Synthroid's gluten free status cannot be guaranteed anymore so I would not take it. I have been on thyroid meds for 15 years and, although it takes a little bit of tweaking when changing meds, it can be done successfully. I think doctors just get lazy because there is no need to fear a med change. I am in that process myself and actually was on the generic...
  23. I would take them back for a refund, Jason. You do not have an allergy, you have an autoimmune disease which creates an intolerance so these drops are a waste of your money. If the allergist claims there is no gluten in the drops, then they must be distilled for her to make that claim because there is a wheat extract in them. Sounds like your allergist's...
  24. I wouldn't say there is a "real" threat of malignancy but there are those who would feel more comfortable if they have a picture of what their intestines look like. Some need to see damage in order to stick to a gluten free diet. I think people need to do whatever makes them feel comfortable in obtaining a diagnosis but Celiacs should not fear having cancer...
  25. Yes, I have dealt with blood issues and have learned a great deal. The article about Paraproteinemia was of special interest to me. Approx. 2 years into the gluten-free diet, I had routine blood work done and had elevated protein levels, the type looked at when diagnosing multiple myeloma. I was sent off to see a hematologist, who did the SPEP test, which...
