  1. Nice answer! Couldn't have said it better myself. Modiddly......jcadam never said they didn't want to serve. Having Celiac alone makes it nearly impossible to be deployed anywhere, for reasons so obvious it doesn't need stating. Throw in hashi's and asthma and the army would have be daft to deploy this officer. I guess with all the BS going on in...
  2. Agreed! The lab I am tested through is very progressive and they use an upper limit of 2.5 for the TSH. I would have to agree with them, judging from my symptoms when my TSH goes over 2! Beanpot....you would not be taking medication for a low thyroid but a hormone replacement for what you are lacking. I don't consider that medication because thyroid...
  3. On the federal tax returns, your deductions for medical have to exceed 7 1/2% of your adjusted gross income. That leaves 2 groups of people who may be able to take advantage of this......those with really high, out of pocket expenses for medical issues or very low income groups. I fall into neither so don't bother with any of it.
  4. Yup, that's what they're doing and I'm guessing it's got a lot to do with their attempts to get socialized medicine passed. Plus, if you keep people pre-occupied with fears of a pandemic, they aren't focused on what's really going on. It's happened in many an administration and will happen again. It's politics. As for my theory on why people may be less...
  5. Excellent! I had the same experience and, quite frankly, I have better things to do in life than worrying excessively about ever getting cancer. Just follow the diet, project a good attitude and you'll do fine.
  6. MilkyWay Midnight bars and Butterfinger bars are gluten free. Regular Milky Ways use a barley based nougat in their filling and the Midnight version uses vanilla. Any reactions would not be gluten related.

  8. Yes, that is if you continue to eat gluten. Small, rare gluten hits do not count as you will heal from those pretty quickly. It really takes a long time of sustained gluten ingestion for inflammation to occur and be sustained in the GI tract. That is really the culprit in cancer...inflammation.
  9. I completely understand the tax deduction principal and HSA accounts....I used to work for a CPA and had an HSA account in the past. However, no food items are taxed at all in my state, unless you dine out in a restaurant, so there's the difference. I also never used the HSA for the difference between gluten-free foods and non-gluten-free foods because it...
  10. There was a study done in Italy, I believe, and they wanted to see how much of a negative effect smoking had on bone growth. Turns out, the different between the recovery of the smokers vs. the nons were so small, the study concluded that smoking didn't cause as much harm as originally thought, which I think surprised the researchers. This isn't to say it...
  11. Where do you live? In our state, that's the one thing which is not taxed.....food!
  12. Here...take a look at this and see if it helps you find anything close by! www.glutenfreeregistry.com It lists bakeries, restaurants and the like by state and town, with links to websites. I apologize for not linking the site but that's not allowed where I work. Good luck!
  13. It can be very difficult if you live in an area where there are no restaurants which can give you what you crave. Hyde Park is a beautiful area but I did notice an absence of restaurants where you could find what you are looking for. I tend to crave non-carb items and still can only eat small amounts of bread and pasta. They just fill me up too much. You...
  14. I didn't have a lot of tests run in years past because no one wanted to do anything other than an upper GI and ultrasound. I went for Celiac symptoms starting 25 years ago, before endoscopies were in existence. There is no paper trail. I went to a private physician and paid out of pocket and got much better health care. I am not saying that this particular...
  15. Are you my twin? Your experience was identical to mine, only I was one of those malnourished, 97 pound Celiacs. My tTg was over 200 at diagnosis and now it is in the normal range. Not as low as yours but I have other autoimmune conditions which affect my tTg level. I also turned 50 this year and feel better than I did at 30. Still have other issues because...
  16. This is good information, as a reminder, but if you told them you were ordering a gluten-free meal in general, why would the chef dust the fish in flour before frying? I do not usually go to a chain restaurant for gluten-free food so am always checking out whatever menu is offered up. I am always curious to see who offers what, as far as gluten-free food...
  17. I understand your concerns and if you know anything about socialized medicine, it gets downright scary, after what many Americans are used to here. However, there are many cases where unnecessary testing is done and I think this is what the government may try to address. I am not in favor at all of a government plan but I do think there have been a couple...
  18. I found out, quite by accident, that this pub style restaurant has one of the best gluten-free menu's I have seen to date, in a place of this category. The prices are extremely reasonable and they have a fantastic wine and beer menu also.....4-5 different types of gluten-free beer. They serve gluten-free pizza and not just 2 offerings, like you usually get...
  19. While I would agree that many of the chains like Outback and Ruby Tuesday don't exactly have great food, do you really feel that naturally gluten-free foods, like veggies, fruits and proteins are crappy food? That statement kind of floored me! What do you eat on a normal basis, then? I have been to Soul Dog and thought they were excellent.....what...
  20. I think this is probably key....for those who are stillhaving symptoms, they obviously have to start looking at accidental ingestion of gluten, from their personal care products, as a possible culprit. I also think it has little to do with feeling the need to be less strict.....I was about as far gone as you can get with Celiac and always feel the need...
  21. You are in exactly the same situation as my husband and myself, only I am the Celiac. However, my hubby has some symptoms which we are going to be looking into shortly. If you two are avid cooks, you'll have no problem with this. You also do not need to go completely gluten-free yourself but I commend you for doing so. My husband eats gluten at breakfast...

    ARCHIVED Menopause

Soy is a phyto-estrogen and is used in non-food and food form to alleviate the symptoms of menopause....not reverse it. In countries where soy is the mainstay of the diet, they don't have night sweats and many the other symptoms that plague Americans to such a great extent. Soy does not contain as much estrogen as birth control either but is a substance which...
  23. The tTg test checks for the level of intestinal damage and is not a measurement of antigliadin antibodies in the blood stream. It is not linear either.....some people with very high numbers have less damage than others with lower numbers. Other autoimmune problems, linked to Celiac Disease can cause elevated tTg also, such as Hashimoto's thyroid disease,...
  24. Thanks for posting your mother's experience! Doctors do a lousy job of warning patients about potential side effects of these drugs and they are very real and can be dangerous. I also believe that Celiacs, especially, ought to be skeptical about their use. They are very corrosive to the gut and we have enough problems maintaining gut health without messing...
  25. Yup....if you react from contact with a product, that would be an allergy. If you have DH and eat anything gluten containing, your skin will erupt from the internal reaction...an intolerance. I don't think you are a weiner! I use good products and have no intentions of changing them. I don't eat them so it isn't a problem. When something works well...
