I forgot to add that, although Stowe really doesn't have any listings for specific places to eat gluten-free, I have never had a problem with obtaining a gluten-free meal at most of the restaurants there. Most New Englanders are well versed with celiac disease or have at least heard of it. Burlington is close enough to Stowe and it's a much bigger city...

Open Original Shared Link Tica, Here is an excellent source for finding gluten-free food in the States. I think this will help you to find what you need. Stowe is an incredible place and you should not have any trouble with the gluten-free thing there or in Boston. I live outside of Boston and I truly believe we are one of the most gluten...

ARCHIVED Any Treatments In Development For Non-celiac Gluten Intolerance?
Gemini replied to CGally81's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If the "cure" came in a pill form, you'd still have to bring pills with you every time you eat away from home, so that won't solve that problem. I understand what you are trying to say but honestly, I live a completely normal life with Celiac and it prevents me from doing very little that other people can do. Honestly...it's all about mindset. Having... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Ct Enterography Done
Gemini replied to Roda's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you stay on the gluten-free diet and do not cheat, and feel well and make a good recovery, then your odds of contracting GI cancer is no more than the general public. I would even go so far as to say it's less likely you'll ever have that problem if you are a compliant Celiac. Doctors love to scare people into having loads of tests done but I know of... -
ARCHIVED Any Treatments In Development For Non-celiac Gluten Intolerance?
Gemini replied to CGally81's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
As I have little faith in a "cure" for Celiac Disease or any interest in one, I do not think there will be any for gluten sensitivity either. Gluten intolerance IS Celiac Disease but being sensitive is just as bad, from a symptom point of view. Plus, as the medical profession does not recognize anything but villi flattening celiac disease, the odds of them... -
ARCHIVED Using Tetracyclines To Help Bring Immune System Under Control

Your clarification was spot on but elevated tTg may also indicate another autoimmune disease present other than Celiac Disease. Hashimoto's thyroid disease and liver disease may also be indicated with elevated tTg levels. To the original poster...if you went through Enterolabs to have testing done and came back with these results, I would highly suggest...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Shampoo, Conditioner, And Body Products
Gemini replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It depends on what your personal habits are. I NEVER put my fingers in my mouth unless they are clean......meaning I wash them well before doing that. The only time my fingers go near my mouth is when I am eating finger type foods. I just do not have those habits, which is probably why I never get colds or the flu. You have to look at what you do and make... -
ARCHIVED Delight gluten-free Magazine Alert!
Gemini replied to mamaw's topic in Publications & Publicity
If the employee had actually done that, added a recipe in after everything had gone through proofing, that's a different matter entirely. That's a no-no, for sure. I would agree with the firing then......it was warranted. That would be comparable to changing info on a drug script, after a doctor had signed off on it. As for being a newbie and the... -
ARCHIVED Delight gluten-free Magazine Alert!
Gemini replied to mamaw's topic in Publications & Publicity
I have never heard of this magazine but was struck by the fact that the person responsible was supposedly fired? I could see if they made more than a couple of errors at their job but if this was a one time incident, I don't think it warrants being fired from your job. The worst that will happen is a Celiac is going to get sick for a couple of days and... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Shampoo, Conditioner, And Body Products
Gemini replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You cannot have a true Celiac reaction to topical products unless you ingest them into your GI tract. It is absolutely not mandatory that your products be gluten-free unless you also have a topical wheat allergy, which would cause an allergy type reaction.....itching, hives, dryness, etc. The gluten molecule is too large to pass through the skin. If you read... -

ARCHIVED Immune System Excessive Cold/flu Killer?
Gemini replied to spicenator3000's topic in Doctors
Unless I am misunderstanding your post, I think this statement is a load of horse pucky! If someone has undiagnosed Celiac Disease and continues to eat gluten, their health most certainly will be directly affected. I think that has squat to do with genetics, other than it was the gene pool which gave a person the predisposition to trigger for the... -
ARCHIVED Immune System Excessive Cold/flu Killer?
Gemini replied to spicenator3000's topic in Doctors
Here is my very unscientific but telling experience......all of my relatives who I suspect of having GS/celiac disease but have a denial problem about it have been deathly ill with the flu this past month. My mother actually was hospitalized because it progressed into pneumonia. They all were out for the count for a full 2 weeks. My sister, who is at... -
ARCHIVED Hla-dq2
Gemini replied to homemaker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am also a double DQ-2 and what that means is both of your parents carry the gene for Celiac....you inherit one from each parent. Celiac Disease is on both ides of your family, like mine. Not too hard to grasp considering my father is Irish/English and my mother is Scottish/English. It also signifies that your chances of triggering is greater with 2 copies... -
Jennifer The sad thing is that you are probably not hyperthyroid, unless you are having symptoms of it. Many people, including myself, keep their TSH really suppressed and have T3 and T4 levels in the upper ranges so they feel normal and good. Many docotrs freak out over this and only treat using blood work as a gauge....wrong thing to do! If you feel...

ARCHIVED Make-up
Gemini replied to Rebecca47's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The book is 100% correct.....you have to ingest a product for a reaction to take place. However, for many people, this may not work if you put your hands into your mouth or have other habits which may result in continued ingestion. I only screen products that go onto my lips and it has worked very well for me for 5 years. As I was diagnosed through blood... -
ARCHIVED Health Care Reform And "unnecessary" Tests
Gemini replied to knittygirl1014's topic in Doctors
I agree that all American citizens should have health care available to them. However, my position is that if you sneak into my country, you're not entitled to anything. Legal immigrants can buy insurance like everyone else can so they fall into the same category as a citizen...but they have to pay something for what they are given. I would never go to a... -
ARCHIVED Are Allergy Shots Gluten Free?
Gemini replied to ElvisLives's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am guessing you are joking from your winky icon! To the original poster......injections are not an issue whatsoever for a celiac, unless you are receiving an injection in your mouth, from a dentist who uses a medication or numbing agent which does contain gluten and it happens to spill into your mouth. However, I have never found anything injectable... -
ARCHIVED 2nd Biospy?
Gemini replied to L13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I always have to laugh out loud when I hear this. My doctor, who I really like and respect, said the same thing. I was about 2 years into the gluten-free diet, was doing exceptionally well and by then, was pretty much asymptomatic for anything. I looked at her as she tried to convince me to have a scope done to see if I was healing well and had to suppress... -
ARCHIVED Health Care Reform And "unnecessary" Tests
Gemini replied to knittygirl1014's topic in Doctors
I think there are definitely pro's and con's to each side of the fence on this one, Pete. I guess it all depends on which side you sit. However, I have to make a few comments on some misconceptions about American health care. I also have many relatives who have resided in Canada for the past 70 years or so and they have given me an insight into your system... -
ARCHIVED Buying gluten-free Food's Through An Hsa
Gemini replied to Eric-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am amazed at the amount of people who insist on doing their own taxes and then neglecting to learn anything about tax law. This is pretty basic also and I am sure many who aren't aware of this are making mistakes....which will come back to haunt them should they be audited by the IRS. The one thing which makes it difficult to reach the baseline for deductions... -
ARCHIVED Help! My Anemia Is Worse!
Gemini replied to cmorrisaud's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The reason many women get that stupid attitude from the medical community regarding chronic anemia is they always blame it on your period. I was always told it was because I was having heavy periods that I was chronically anemic but guess what? I never had that problem to begin with but they kept patting me on the head and treating me like I was too stupid... -
ARCHIVED Health Care Reform And "unnecessary" Tests
Gemini replied to knittygirl1014's topic in Doctors
There will not be any paper trail if a person pays for all testing and appointments in cash and keeps copies of the testing out of a PCP's hands. I went to a private doctor who does not use a computer for her patients records....she is not an HMO physician so isn't in the network. I had all my Celiac testing done this way and it was due to the lack of being... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's And H1n1
Gemini replied to Eric-C's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Eric.....you mean there is someone else who understands how the system really works? You are 100% correct and that's all I'll say for now. You notice when the reality of socialized medicine comes up, we are advised to stay on topic. Kind of like what I said about keeping people pre-occupied to keep the focus elsewhere. I also agree with the logic...
