Taking a flu shot via injection is not cause for concern regarding any gluten. You have to ingest it into your GI tract for it to be an issue and cause a Celiac reaction. Itching from an injection is not uncommon. Some may experience zero symptoms while others will have minor irritation. If the itching has stopped, I wouldn't be too concerned about it...

ARCHIVED Overwhelmed And Depressed By Latest Blood Work
Gemini replied to nasalady's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for all of this information, JoAnn! I will take a more detailed look this week-end. I am sort of in the same boat as you.....some weird test results in the past and doctors who don't seem to know what it all means or maybe are just feeling like, "How much bad news can this lady take?" It's very frustrating, though, to say the least. It's also... -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed And Depressed By Latest Blood Work
Gemini replied to nasalady's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The only 2 symptoms I have that fit from your listing above is the high ANA (really high!) and the newly discovered slight anemia. I am not a rash person and have no signs of anything like that. My niece's husband's mom has lupus and has always had the malar rash, so I know all too well what that looks like. I'm sure it's an added kick to have your autoimmune... -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed And Depressed By Latest Blood Work
Gemini replied to nasalady's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No, no, no.....you did not scare and depress me, reality did! This whole overlap syndrome, which so often makes a diagnosis hard, is the real pain in the butt. You just don't know what you really have or wonder what symptoms are due to which disease! My brain hurts from trying to figure it all out. -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed And Depressed By Latest Blood Work
Gemini replied to nasalady's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Oh Crap, JoAnn!!!!!!! I recently had blood work done to re-test my thyroid and found out that it had swung low again. I had cut my dose in half in April, per doctor's orders, as I had gone hyper on my old dosage. It was attributed to my healed intestines and better absorption abilities. In the course of this, they had also run a CBC and found out I was... -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed And Depressed By Latest Blood Work
Gemini replied to nasalady's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know much about lupus testing because I have so far refused to see a rheumatologist regarding my high ANA general blood work. Call me a wimp but I have 4 autoimmune problems and no symptoms of lupus so I don't want to hear any more bad news. My niece has lupus and I strongly believe, Celiac. She will not consider or pursue a celiac diagnosis and... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Thyroid Test Results
Gemini replied to mamasaidso's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You still may be hypo with a TSH of 2. It all depends on what your other numbers are and what you symptoms are. Many people are sub-clinically low thyroid which will give you symptoms even though your numbers look OK. They fall in that gray area no doctor will take anyone seriously in! -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed And I Do Not Want To Believe It
Gemini replied to Liz790's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Why any doctor would need the blood work as follow-up when you have had a positive biopsy is beyond me! Either one on their own, if positive, is a diagnosis, period. Go gluten-free and don't look back. BTW....lupus is one of the autoimmune diseases strongly associated with Celiac. Many people here are diagnosed first with other autoimmune diseases and... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Break The News?
Gemini replied to haleym's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Why are you so worried about what others will feel or think? Just tell them the truth without sounding like a victim and they won't treat you like one...or they shouldn't! If they really love you and are concerned for your welfare, it won't matter that you cannot have gluten. Actually, my friends have been super-supportive while my family hasn't been. That... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Thyroid Test Results
Gemini replied to mamasaidso's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Elevated antibodies and the symptoms you are having are indicative of Hashimoto's thyroid disease. I have this myself and have learned a tremendous amount over the past 15 years in how best to treat this problem. If your TSH level is over 2.5, you are hypothyroid. There are many doctors who do not keep current on this disease and still go by the old levels... -
ARCHIVED Living With A Celiac Spouse: How We Cope
Gemini replied to MonKol's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's very tasty, according to my hubby BUT the damn price has gone up! Anheiser-Busch raised their distributor fee and the greedy state I live in just raised the alcohol tax......yeah, go ahead and tax my gluten-free red wine! So, we got a double whammy and the price (sit down, please!) is $10.80 a six pack! Thank God he doesn't drink that much at all... -
You make some excellent points here but I think why people react the way they do to Celiacs and their diet is because many are so emotionally attached to the food they eat, they just cannot fathom giving any of it up. That makes being supportive difficult because it makes them have to face their own bad eating habits. Ask anyone who eats a bad diet and...

ARCHIVED Living With A Celiac Spouse: How We Cope
Gemini replied to MonKol's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think I could have said this better! While I think the original poster should be commended for putting his wife's health first, there is simply no reason, other than having small children around, to have a completely gluten-free household, if one person is not a Celiac. My husband and I do just fine and he has gone above and beyond the call of... -
Very, very true! I guess it depends on the application but a glass of red wine with an Advil does wonders for pain in general! I think some people are just sensitive to certain narcotics and what may work well for some does not work well for others. I don't think being a Celiac has anything to do with it unless you are not healed and not absorbing...

As long as the painkiller is gluten-free, there should be absolutely no problem for a Celiac to take them. I have never heard of opiates being a problem for Celiacs and, as I have taken them for dental surgery and had zero problems with them, I would think that just another case of misinformation. Some opiates may bother or not agree with someone but it isn...

In my state we have huge problems with illegal aliens driving around with no license, insurance or respect for our laws and country. Yet, as I read this, here we have someone who actually obeys this stupid law requiring a seizure victim to wait until the neurologist has an open appointment! As a totally independent woman who has worked her entire life...

ARCHIVED Olive Garden Gluten Free Penne!
Gemini replied to Lombardi25's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I was happy to see this post because I went to the Olive garden once, before I knew I had Celiac, and it had to be the worst food I ever ate in a restaurant. For an Italian restaurant, they knew nothing about preparing good Italian food! The bread sticks were nothing but gummy, over-buttered glue sticks and I could have made a MUCH better meal at home... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Cancer
Gemini replied to twe0708's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry to hear of your loss! There probably are many who were never diagnosed with celiac disease who did run a much higher risk of cancer as a result and this is why I can become a gluten nazi in trying to teach this to my relatives. These are people who always trash people who smoke yet continue to eat gluten AND are symptomatic for celiac disease! Go figure... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Cancer
Gemini replied to twe0708's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
All of the information I have gathered and read stipulates that if a diagnosed Celiac follows and maintains a strict gluten-free diet, their chances of cancer go back to those of the general public without Celiac Disease. I, personally, do not choose to obsess about cancer in my lifetime and I think the medical profession does a good job of scaring people... -
ARCHIVED Colonoscopy Question
Gemini replied to jjc's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have read numerous publications and books on Celiac and most agree that if someone follows a strict gluten-free diet and doesn't cheat, the risk of any intestinal cancer is no more than for the general population. I also believe that it's just intestinal lymphoma and adenoma of the small intestine that can occur in undiagnosed or non-complaint Celiacs... -
My non-Celiac husband has tasted Green's beer and he loves them! It is from a Belgian micro-brewery and there are 2 different types. One is a lighter type ale and the other is more of a darker lager. We paid $6.50 for a pint. Seems pricey but it has twice the alcohol content of American beers so one beer is more like drinking 2! I had to drive home........

What she said, Jason! Ravenwoodglass has given some good advice here and I would definitely see about talking to someone. I can understand how you feel and I think it's directly related to your age category. Young folks are in the social scene way more than older folks and when you get older, you'll find being different is no big deal. People's attitudes...

ARCHIVED Glutened Through The Skin And By Paper Plates?
Gemini replied to sillyactsue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
All of the above that you describe are topical allergic reactions and not an internal, Celiac related reaction. There is a huge difference. It is not uncommon for Celiacs to have topical allergies also. Many people do not take the time to read up on allergies vs. intolerances so mistake these types of reactions for an intolerance type reaction. You have... -
ARCHIVED Very High Hdl Cholesterol
Gemini replied to elle's mom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Methinks you make a lot of good sense! Everyone blames everything on genetics these days and I don't buy into it. I also do not think it normal to lower a 200 pound man's cholesterol levels to 140, via medication and I hear people talking about their levels all the time. People are put on so many meds and most of them are broken down in the liver... -
Tracey...I cannot help you with your original question but wanted to let you know that children born with Down's are in the high risk group for Celiac Disease. It tends to afflict more of these kids than others. One of the women who works at my eye doctor's office has a Down's brother and he went for a long time with severe symptoms before the doctor considered...
