Doesn't Air Tran offer a gluten-free dinner? Shame on them if they don't because I know Virgin Atlantic does and their food is very good to boot. As for the coffee, I have never had any troubles with oversea's flights and their coffee. The milk and cream come in those little containers so they are fine and safe from CC. It's just milk and cream but check...

I will second Burtons Grill gluten-free menu.....it's one of the best I have ever seen in a restaurant! It is not a cheap place to eat but, even if there were some food at Fenway for you to eat, the cost would give you a heart attack. Not worth it. Go to Burton's and be amazed.

ARCHIVED Ttg Iga Levels Increasing
Gemini replied to tclarkfl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
To add another opinion for you to think about......I have not eliminated gluten from topical products and it has not affected my blood work whatsoever and I am completely asymptomatic. The prevailing medical information on this is gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin as the gluten molecule is too large to pass through. I have backed this information... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Dairy Question
Gemini replied to pbc+celiac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, going dairy light will not impede your recovery, if that is the level you can tolerate. I can drink milk in my tea and cream in my coffee as I only use a drop in each but I cannot tolerate a whole glass of milk or ice cream. I do not eat cold cereal so that is not an issue for me. I also can tolerate soft cheeses, like goat cheese, but have a harder... -
Hey, thanks for the tip! I LOVE Woodman's fried clams and this would make a nice option.

While being respectful of what Jason is going through and realizing it is different for many people, this has got to be one of the most insightful and grounded posts I have read in a long while! There is a huge disconnect with food in our country that most people suffer from and it takes an illness like Celiac to bring it to the surface. Most people never...

Yup, that's good, treat the insensitive, borderline abusive husband like a king!?!?!? Can you say "enabler?"

You can call me anything you want, as long as it isn't nasty! I don't react as badly as you do....mine is more nausea which quickly goes away once the offending smell is gone. I never get to the point where something might regurgitate but the smell just turns my stomach. I also hate it when I am in a room and people are eating gluteny food which has...

No, you are not crazy! I think it is totally psychosomatic and it happens to me also. I cannot STAND the smell of toasting, gluteny foods. Just walking down the bread aisle of a mainstream grocery store makes me want to gak so I usually avoid that aisle. If I stay there long enough, I get nauseous also. I really think it's just a protective mechanism...

ARCHIVED Eye Troubles
Gemini replied to BRS-07's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You know, that's interesting you should say that about the flax seed oil. Another eye doctor I used to go to said the same thing regarding flax seed vs. fish oil and after doing a trial run, I didn't notice any difference whatsoever between the fish oil and the flax seed oil. Both seemed to help as much as the other. I know they are metabolized differently... -
ARCHIVED Common With Ice Cream?
Gemini replied to JBaby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Dairy is incredibly hard, if not impossible, for some Celiacs to digest and it could be the casein or the lactose. Doesn't really matter because it will make you feel just as bad, either one. If it's a lactose problem, it could clear up after healing occurs or you may be able to tolerate small amounts. I gave up on the milk and ice cream because it just... -
ARCHIVED Eye Troubles
Gemini replied to BRS-07's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Typically, dry mouth and swollen lymph nodes are coupled with the dry eyes in Sjogren's but I never had the swollen lymph glands. I have severe dry mouth and eyes but none of the other. I personally think it's because I take baths instead of showers and use a wash cloth to massage my neck area, like a person would in Shiat'zu massage. This is a common technique... -
ARCHIVED Eye Troubles
Gemini replied to BRS-07's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have Sjogren's Syndrome and my eyes got pretty bad before I started on the Restasis eye drops. They make a huge difference for many people. Fish oil is also good to take and is most potent when you get it from it's natural food source, but the caps are good too. The tests you would want to request are the SS-A and SS-B antibody tests. However, some... -
ARCHIVED Super Sensitive And Frustrated With Many Questions
Gemini replied to sylviaann's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Maybe if I say this one more time, you may hear what I am saying. I am more than familiar with a gluten reaction as it's the same one all Celiacs have regardless of how people like to label themselves. I was one week away from a feeding tube at time of diagnosis so if there was any gluten in the processed foods mentioned in your post, I would know as well... -
ARCHIVED Super Sensitive And Frustrated With Many Questions
Gemini replied to sylviaann's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Many companies produce non-gluten free items in addition to gluten-free products but follow strict cleaning procedures in between runs. Most companies will elaborate on their practices if questioned because they obviously want to keep their customers. Amy's satisfied that requirement when I talked to them so I feel confident they use good cleaning practices... -

ARCHIVED Super Sensitive And Frustrated With Many Questions
Gemini replied to sylviaann's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you considered the idea that it may not be gluten CC that is posing a problem for you but you may have additional food allergies or intolerances? Many people become too focused on gluten and think that is the culprit but because you seem to have so many triggers, I doubt it may be gluten. Lots of people have a problem with grains in general. I eat... -
No, you will not be glutened by smoking a cigarette. You have to ingest gluten into your GI tract to spark the autoimmune reaction. Unless you eat the cigarette, which is far less enjoyable than smoking it, not to worry.

ARCHIVED Celiac And Sjogren
Gemini replied to chojny997's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry about the language problems, Paul! I think I may be having difficulty with what you are asking so forgive me and I will attempt to answer you plainly. All of the autoimmune diseases you talk about are common with Celiac. Whether they co-exist or are caused by Celiac is yet to be known but I think Celiac causes many others if you go a long time without... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Sjogren
Gemini replied to chojny997's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your welcome! To answer your questions..... I have a very high positive ANA, Rheumatoid Factor and I am positive for the Sjogren's antibody, called the SS-A and SS-B. I have been gluten-free for 4 years now and have absolutely no symptoms for RA or lupus, which are the two main diseases they look for in a person with high numbers like those. My Sjogren... -
ARCHIVED Airline Meals On Ba & Aa
Gemini replied to kenlove's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Not sure if Virgin Atlantic is an option for you out of Denver but they have excellent gluten-free meals on board. They are pretty basic but you get a small, good salad and fruit for dessert. Their meals have always been good but they generally are salmon or chicken over rice with a veg. It was filling and better than most frozen gluten-free meals you buy... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Sjogren
Gemini replied to chojny997's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have both Celiac and Sjogren's and the degree of relief achieved after going gluten-free greatly varies. You cannot "cure" an autoimmune disease by going gluten-free but you can diminish the symptoms greatly, most of the time, by sticking to the diet. This will calm your immune down and help with symptoms. I use Restasis, which is a pharmaceutical eyedrop... -
Although it does present a problem, there is no need to fear any of this. For extended juror duty where provided food is not possible for a Celiac, I have no doubt that the court would understand and excuse a person. Sequestered....same thing. Those are extenuating circumstances. For regular service where your obligation is for up to a week or two, it's no...
-
Being chosen for a sequestered jury would be a valid excuse for a Celiac to NOT serve. They provide all food in that case and I highly doubt the court system would get that right. There would be no way in which to obtain a gluten-free meal so unless you serve on a jury that lets you go home every evening, I think being excused from that is a no-brainer.

I have had Hashi's for about 15 years. The throat symptoms are common for Hashi's and are caused by the enlargement of the gland when it is overworked/under attack by the immune system. A good thyroid doctor will be able to get things under control but it can take awhile. Do not worry about this as, once the problem has been corrected with meds, the thyroid...
