  1. There is no gluten in powdered cellulose. It is derived from plant sources and some cheese manufacturers actually state, on their websites, that their cellulose contains no gluten. I would expect they put that in there because they were getting a lot of questions on it. I have never seen a shredded cheese with gluten in it but then again, I prefer to grate...
  2. Ha, Ha, Ha!!!!! You have a great sense of humor! At some point, the anxiety issue always comes up. I remember one doc saying I needed to go "talk to someone" about my problems and that would help my stomach issues and I almost told him that the only problems I had were doctors who couldn't help me. Good luck with your appointment and keep us...
  3. That is just doctor speak and they are required to behave that way. If this doctor will do any test you ask for, how about doing the gene testing? That will at least tell you if you have one or both of the genes to actually predispose you for Celiac. It doesn't mean you have it, as you probably already know, but with your laundry list of illnesses and...
  4. I am surprised that rural France is not more gluten free friendly as French cooking is basically gluten free......except the bread and pastry part! I find it the easiest cuisine to cook because so many of the recipes are already gluten-free. Do you think the French are more resistant to changing the way they do things in restaurants because food is such...
  5. Good grief! I totally see why you would want to steer clear of doctors! I am so sorry that you have had the typical Celiac experience........you are falling apart on all levels and the doctors never figure it out. I just have a few added words to say about the endo....... Yes, the only thing that will trip a DGP is a reaction to the gluten you are...
  6. Very true! Besides, as you are rinsing dishes well after washing, I can't see how this would pose any issues.
  7. It certainly sounds like Celiac Disease and one of the most telling is that you feel worse as the day goes on. I felt fine in the mornings also but was eating gluten all day and then by day's end, I felt just the same as you. Your immune system takes a little time to mount the attack so being sicker at night is what usually happens with classic Celiac. ...
  8. There is so much to say regarding this post but I do not have a lot of time right now. I have been to the UK, Ireland and Scotland many times over the past 20 years and eaten in many a French restaurant in London......with real French people. I have to agree that the food, overall, is much better than here in the States. You can get great food here and...
  9. There is not one Celiac out there who hasn't slipped up in the beginning. You have not set yourself back by very much so do not be too hard on yourself. As far as eating at any fast food establishment, I do not. After being glutened by a Wendy's salad, I walked away from those places because the risk of taking a hit is just way, way too high. Workers may...
  10. Getting sick from sharing a cast iron skillet has nothing to do with being sensitive......that's a no-no for anyone diagnosed with Celiac. You do not clean a cast iron skillet the same way you clean a stainless steel pan so there very well could be contamination left on the surface. The only cast iron that is safe for a mixed household would be enameled...
  11. I have to comment on some of Darren's suggestions for surviving in a non-gluten free kitchen. You do not need to use separate cooking utensils for cooking gluten free food unless the cooking utensil is porous in nature....like wooden spoons or plastic. Those have to be dedicated for the gluten free eater. If they are stainless steel or other metal type...
  12. Love Costa coffee! I had no idea that they sold wraps also. I also love Nero's and they sell gluten-free sandwiches on the Just brand of rolls.......very, very good! The liability laws are different here in the States so coffee houses generally only sell a gluten-free brownie, if you are lucky. We should adopt the same laws as Britain. It is far too...
  13. As other autoimmune diseases can elevate tTg slightly or produce low titers, you can have a false positive caused by another autoimmune disease, such as autoimmune liver disease, thyroid disease or Type 1 diabetes. If you have something along those lines going on, it might cause a false positive. If you don't and do suspect Celiac, then the positive might...
  14. Thanks for the tip, christiana! I had no idea Marks and Spencer had gluten-free bread. I will say that the breads I referenced in my post taste really good, whether they are toasted or not, which is quite amazing. The wraps from Newburn Bakehouse were so soft and delicious, I got nervous eating them. The wraps here in the States are crap....they split...
  15. I would have to disagree with this statement. At least in the UK, the gluten-free bread is much better and fresher.....you can buy it unfrozen and fresh, right in the bread isle. A few examples...... Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Both of these bread companies made bread that was far superior to what we currently have...

    ARCHIVED in the news

That did not go by unnoticed by me, either. I heard the causes of death and thought to myself......my God, he could have had undiagnosed Celiac! If Glenn Frey was on meds to control his RA and Ulcerative colitis, he most likely shouldn't have died. It seemed his diseases were out of control and they eventually killed him but I bet no one thought there...
  17. It really all depends on the patient. I never had a biopsy because my blood work was off the charts and I was too sick for a biopsy at the time I was diagnosed. I did so well on the diet, I never felt the need to have one. It has been almost 11 years now and I am still doing well so you can see, it all depends on your experience. If you feel comfortable...
  18. The Celiac blood panel never rules the disease out. Many, many people test negative on the blood work and then positive on the biopsy....which you did. This is just an example of how doctors are showing doubt because of liability concerns. You have villous atrophy associated with Celiac Disease and the other stuff that happens to your gut when you eat...
  19. Hi confused again......sorry my reply took so long but I have had some irons in the fire myself so was delayed in responding. Oh, my!!!!!! A TSH of 6.22 and they think she doesn't needs supplementing? This is the usual crap people get from mainstream medicine. They wait until you are half dead before deciding you need some thyroid hormone. She...
  20. I have to ask whether or not your docs have been also re-testing the DGP or AGA/IgA or IgG to see if your daughter is actually consuming gluten? The tTg is not the correct test to use for dietary compliance. That tests for tissue damage and, while it will elevate back up in someone who is consuming gluten, it can be elevated from other autoimmune conditions...
  21. Thank you, icelandgirl, for the lovely compliments. You are sweet!
  22. I recently read that your Total IgA would have to be close to zero to be considered IgA deficient enough to skew test results but I am not sure I believe that. The lower the number outside the normal range would make it seem far less likely to get accurate results. I think this is why it is so important to do gene testing also. That is so basic these days...
  23. That is old school thought, Darren. You absolutely do not need a biopsy to prove Celiac Disease but I agree it all goes on a case by case issue. You must have not heard of Dr. Fasano's criteria for diagnosis without biopsy. The five factors Dr. Fasano cites include: Open Original Shared Link positive results on the very celiac-specific...
  24. Follow up biopsies are not always necessary. If you have persistent problems, then that would be a good reason to do one but not everyone needs one. I have never had any biopsy because I failed all the blood work by huge numbers and I presented with classic Celiac. I fit the criteria for diagnosis without biopsy, for those who will have trouble consuming...
