ARCHIVED Significant Other Who Doesn't Understand :(
Gemini replied to lacey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are going to be more than fine, lacey! Anyone with the courage to leave a relationship because they recognize that their partner is selfish is on the right road. Don't look too hard for someone else because by not looking too hard or being on the hunt, what you want will cross your path and come to you. You are a smart cookie! -
ARCHIVED Want To Have A Little Gluten?
Gemini replied to manasota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You will find that notme! has a very finely tuned sense of humor, which we appreciate. Doesn't hurt to laugh at things because if you don't, your head would explode! Ha, Ha! I used to have a Buddha belly but that is long gone. I have to ask....are you dairy free also? I know you have cut out a lot of foods from your diet but dairy intolerance often...- 26 replies

ARCHIVED Gemini's Favorite Things
Gemini posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have discovered some new gluten-free food items that amazed me. Ten years into this diet and I am delighted to find new stuff that is world's better than when I was diagnosed. Open Original Shared Link This website will tell you where these wraps are sold. They are awesome....soft and you can roll them into sammies that DO NOT CRACK! They are made... -
ARCHIVED Want To Have A Little Gluten?
Gemini replied to manasota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We are more alike than you know. My top weight was always 105 pounds also! At 5' 4" tall (or short, as I like to say), I ate like a lumberjack and never got my weight up beyond that. When I hit the wall with Celiac Disease and woke up one morning to horrific diarhea and vomiting, I thought I had food poisoning. I proceeded to lose 7 pounds over the next...- 26 replies

ARCHIVED Want To Have A Little Gluten?
Gemini replied to manasota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
manasota........I just wanted to make a couple of comments. I was diagnosed at 46 and probably had Celiac since I was a very young child, due to my symptoms and history. I was a classic Celiac and was extremely sick and malnourished at diagnosis. I also have 3 other AI diseases that are linked to Celiac Disease. I have been gluten-free for 10 years and...- 26 replies

ARCHIVED 17 Year Old Distance Runner With Stress Fractures And Recent Diagnosis Of Celiac
Gemini replied to Lorisue5's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry, Eloise....I should have explained better. Having your hormones means that you have started your menstrual cycle and you do not have to tell anyone here whether that has happened yet or not. One of the hormones, estrogen, helps with bone growth. There are other things which help you make good bone too but the hormones contribute. Later in... -
ARCHIVED 17 Year Old Distance Runner With Stress Fractures And Recent Diagnosis Of Celiac
Gemini replied to Lorisue5's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Eloise....your osteoporosis was most likely caused by the Celiac. I have osteoporosis also but I am 56 years old so it's going to be harder for me to gain bone back. You are 14 years old and have your hormones, which is important for bone growth. Once you are gluten-free for awhile, your bone density should improve because you will start absorbing your... -
What a great story...other than the fact that Harold passed away. Funny how karma works out sometimes. I had a big boy cat years ago named Benson. He weighed 25 pounds and was an all black kitty and the biggest baby of all. He loved his humans. Big cats are great so enjoy Patches!

Ok then...who on the forum wants to meet up in Iceland in September of 2016? Really people, start livin' that bucket list! And Miss Eloise....you are never too young to start a bucket list.

ARCHIVED Gardasil And Celiac
Gemini replied to LookingforAnswers15's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I highly doubt that being monogamous would put you in the same risk pool as those who are not. Talk to most doctors and they will tell you the same thing. The more sex partners you have, the greater your risk of contracting the virus. From what I have learned, the virus can go dormant in your system and it will not show up on testing, hence the need for... -
Oh crap! That means I have to wait a full year before going??????? Autumn is my favorite time of year to travel anyway so I will defer to the experts! I have been to Scotland so remember the shorter days there so I am sure days are even shorter in Iceland. Maybe September travel would be good and of course, I would LOVE to have you come with me...

Oh, man...nothing I like better than a challenging drive! Last October, my husband and I drove through the Hardknott Pass in England, which is considered the most difficult road in Britian. It was spectacular! I did not think it as bad as some said but we had a beautiful travel day and the road through that pass was better than many roads here in Massachusetts...

Let's face it...anything is good when you slather it with butter and cheese........ Peg...I take it you rented a car and traveled around on your own? Do they drive on the left or right? Silly question but islands generally drive on the left in many places and I just was curious as I want to rent a car and explore independently. I do fine driving on...

ARCHIVED Symptoms Returning - Oats?
Gemini replied to mbledtke's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It could be a reaction to oats themselves but you would have to try certified gluten-free oats to test that. Eating a supplement with oat bran in it is most likely not going to be certifed gluten-free or truly gluten-free. I am not certain whether a small amount of cc would show up in your bloodwork. Would it be enough to trip it over into a positive... -
Thank you, Peg, for this outstanding report. Iceland is on my bucket list of places to go and this will help immensely! I am glad you had such a nice time. I really need to learn how to pronounce those names, though. Icelandgirl needs to do a tutorial on Iceland-speak!

ARCHIVED Symptoms Returning - Oats?
Gemini replied to mbledtke's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I do not have oat issues and can eat certified gluten-free oats without any problems but the oats most likely used in those supplements and shakes are not certified......unless they specifically state that is what they use. I have never seen certified oat bran in anything, just oat bran, and this is why we have to check the oat added foods/supplements carefully... -
You know, Eloise, every time you post here you just keep on impressing the hell out of me! You are guts, grace and dignity all rolled into one nice package. Keep up that fighting spirit and I love that poster on the back of your door! Kevin.........my older brother, who turned 60 this year, has had Type 1 diabetes for many, many years. I also suspect...

Geezaloo.......digestive enzymes DO NOT digest inflammation, they digest food! Let me tell you this....I went to a lecture given by the founder of Enzymedica. Don't get me wrong, I like their product and it is very good BUT as far as gluten is concerned and other dietary issues, the guy said some things that made my blood boil. They have a product called...

ARCHIVED Soy, Estrogen Issues And Gluten Free Foods
Gemini replied to Nikki2777's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have thyroid disease and Celiac and am post-menopausal. I eat soy and do not worry about it at all. I am healthier than I have ever been and do not seem to have any side effects from anything I eat. Most of what I eat is whole foods but I do throw in some processed stuff like bread because I exercise hard and if I don't eat some carbs, I lose weight.... -
I have never been to Champion's but I would suggest that you call them when you get to your hotel and inquire if they can accommodate a Celiac gluten free diet. Make sure they know you have actual Celiac Disease and aren't doing the diet because it makes travel so easy. Many places may not have an actual gluten-free menu but they can accommodate safely...

Digest Gold should not make you vomit so it is either an ingredient that does not agree with you or you may not need them. These are gluten free supplements. I know this sounds like a dumb question but are you making sure to take them only with meals? They should never be taken away from food. I took them for a number of years as I had pancreatic insufficiency...
-
OK.....now let's attack that list you posted! I will say that eating out safely while traveling can be done successfully but you have to get used to the idea that you will be spending more money eating at higher end restaurants. Occasionally, you may run into cheap eats places that do gluten-free really well but they are in the minority. I am a diagnosed...

Give me a few hours and I can comment on many of these choices for you. I am at work and will reply over lunch!

I have had that experience before where you have to double check that something is gluten-free because it is so good and it always involved bread. The gluten-free bread in Britain and Ireland was so good, I was nervous thinking it was not gluten-free. It was! I'll let you know when we come to NY. I have been before, of course, but want to go again...
