As much as I think you should find one because of your symptoms, I totally understand your feelings. It is not easy finding a doctor you feel comfortable with and can trust. Up until I was 46 years old, I never went to doctors. Could not find one I liked and the ones I did see screwed up so badly with the Celiac thing, the trust was gone. But if you keep...

Are you sure this is food related, Barty, or another AI problem rearing it's ugly head? Plus, with the issues you are having with your stomach and stool, maybe you ought to go see a doctor? It could be something entirely different. I hope this goes away and you feel like your old self again. It's tough enough feeling bad but when you have to work,...

I am so glad I saw this! I have one thing to bring up regarding Woodman's........I see that you list a corn intolerance and all their fried food is coated in corn flour. They do have steamers and boiled lobster but if you cannot have corn, the fried food will be out for you. I really hope that intolerance has gone away, if you were counting on fried food...

ARCHIVED Do You Eat gluten-free Oatmeal?
Gemini replied to StClair's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love oatmeal and never had any problems from certified gluten-free oats. I was extremely sick at diagnosis also, yet trialed oatmeal within months of starting the gluten-free diet. Tolerated it extremely well so go figure, huh? I think it is a very independent thing and people react very differently depending on a number of things. I do not believe... -

ARCHIVED Probiotics Not Always gluten-free
Gemini replied to cyclinglady's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have heard from other Celiac's that Florajen probiotics are very good and very safe. I would not change your brand, based on the e-mail and the fact that you are doing well on them. This is another case of panic over an article that claims probiotics contain gluten, when many probably have less than 5-10 ppm or in that neighborhood. You have to buy good... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics Not Always gluten-free
Gemini replied to cyclinglady's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think you may have to call each company to get the allergen details from them. Briefly looking at their websites, they do not give much information, other than some are labeled as wheat and gluten free. But if you want more info, you'll have to call them. If you are feeling well while taking these supplements, then you can safely assume they are fine... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics Not Always gluten-free
Gemini replied to cyclinglady's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi icelandgirl! Here is the brand I use for Vitamin D3: Open Original Shared Link I use a 5,000.00 IU per day dose because I live in the Northeast and do not get much sun on a day to day basis. To be honest, I don't always remember to take them every single day but do supplement at least 4 days a week, without fail. Also, except for the iron supplement... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics Not Always gluten-free
Gemini replied to cyclinglady's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sure! I will have to check some of the brands at home tonight as I use different suppliers for different supplements. But the probiotics I have used for years are below. They have been around for a long, long time and I have never had anything but good luck with these. I would not feel this good and have such good blood work if they contained amounts of... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics Not Always gluten-free
Gemini replied to cyclinglady's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I must be the only person who takes supplements and probiotics without issue. I have been taking probiotics for about 25 years, both pre and post diagnosis and never had a problem. I also take supplements because I have to. Many Celiac's will have ongoing slight deficiencies of vitamins and minerals and without supplementation, that won't improve. Even... -
ARCHIVED Labs After 3 Years gluten-free
Gemini replied to nvsmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'll say! You would think something nice would happen, like my hair changing back from grey to brunette but nooooooooooo........rewards came as higher cholesterol. As long as the gain reflects increases in my good cholesterol, and my triglycerides stay low, I am ok with those 200 numbers. It'll have to be because I won't take meds for it! Have you... -
ARCHIVED Labs After 3 Years gluten-free
Gemini replied to nvsmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You know you are healed when your cholesterol goes up. It took 10 years for me but finally, this year was the year that my cholesterol looks more like the rest of the population. It was 166, non-fasting in 2013 and now? 201, fasting!!!!!!!!! However, I was over the top pleased that the increase was mostly in my HDL. That went from 59 to 82 so I... -

You guys are freaking me out! I have never had an ultrasound or scan of any kind for my thyroid as my blood work told the story of Hashi's pretty well and I have been supplementing ever since. Every time the doc feels my thyroid, she doesn't say much so I take that as meaning they can't feel nodules or anything scary. You know they would be sending me...

ARCHIVED Curious... Long Eyelashes?
Gemini replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Mamaw.....I am also in the pale category, with green eyes and brown hair......well, my hair color that I use monthly is brown. What's underneath is scary. But I have a lot of hair and really long lashes too. However, I would trade the lash thing for less wrinkles, at this point! My heritage is English and Scottish, with a splash of Irish from... -
ARCHIVED Wish Me Luck With The Doctor
Gemini replied to nvsmom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You are not the first person that comes to mind when I think of the word "wuss", and neither am I, but we ALL have our wuss moments.......especially when a doctor is involved. Tests can be scary because you never know what they are going to show. But I am confident that whatever thay want to talk to you about will be nothing that you cannot handle and... -
Caramel color is gluten free. If you choose to believe it is not, you are free to do so but it does not mean you are correct. I am not implying you are not reacting to these products but soda is so bad for you anyway, I think worrying about caramel color is a moot point. No one should be drinking soda in their diet if they want to be healthy. It is incredibly...

I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!! I had to put my shepherd down 7 years ago and I still miss her so I feel your pain. I cannot get another dog until I retire within the next 4 years but the day after I leave work for good, I am going puppy shopping at the local shelter. What kind of a dog is Hank? What an adorable face!

ARCHIVED Mashed Potatoes?
Gemini replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good grief! I do not know where you people eat out but I have been eating mashed potatoes in restaurants, when I do venture out, for YEARS, and have never been glutened by them. I do not eat in chain restaurants unless they have been trained by GIG because it is in these chain places where they hire less than knowledgeable people and there is a greater... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Hla Question
Gemini replied to whitefairy30's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's OK to go gluten free without a positive diagnosis BUT it's a committment so.....NO CHEATING! You actually do not know if you really do have Celiac or not but if you have the genetics to trigger for it, and you do, I would be serious about following the diet. With your history and gene testing results, there is a good chance you do. Good luck... -
ARCHIVED Haha...its Just ..sinking In! :d

ARCHIVED Bloodwork Results, Input Please?
Gemini replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When you have a low total IgA, then all IgA based blood testing will be unreliable because your body is not making enough antibody to test accurately for. I think that is why they throw in the IgG based testing also but that is more body wide, whereas the IgA antibody is GI tract specific. It is produced in the mucosal lining of the intestines. It is not...
