ARCHIVED 5 year old's TTG level not going down- 1 year gluten free
Gemini replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Is the GI doctor also running her DGP, along with the tTg? The tTg is not supposed to be run alone upon re-test, you also need to run the DGP to see if she is actually getting gluten into her diet. tTg can be elevated, and not falsely, with other auotimmune diseases which often present with Celiac. Either screen for those tests also or do the most obvious... -
ARCHIVED Getting glutened from neighbor's cooking
Gemini replied to musichillpark's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think everyone clearly understood your post. The problem is that you seem to not understand how a Celiac reaction works. I do know what you are talking about because smells that involve cooking and heat bother me also but it is a psychosomatic reaction.....and please do not become offended by that. It does not bother me that it happens to me. I view... -
I am not Amanda but I have always drank the soy milk at Bucky's without issue. They will let you read the ingredients listing on the side of anything you ask them for. Starbuck's will not say their products are gluten-free because of liability issues. That is not necessarily a problem on their side but the fact that in America, people are so sue happy...

Plain brewed coffee is very gluten free, so enjoy! In fact, I drink chai latte's from Starbucks and regular coffee ones too. I use soy milk and have never been glutened by those. All the other drinks have a lot more ingredients and calories so I stay away from those. Just tell them you have Celiac and they do a pretty good job with your drink.

ARCHIVED University of Chicago's Celiac Impact Newsletter, April 2016
Gemini replied to cyclinglady's topic in Publications & Publicity
While it is an interesting read, the notion that you cannot make a full diagnosis with either the biopsy or the antibody testing alone is ridiculous and outdated. Every case should be treated individually and in many cases, the symptoms and results of either test is a slam dunk for Celiac, especially when the patient responds well to the gluten-free diet... -
ARCHIVED Michelin-Starred French Chef Shoots for the Gluten-Free Moon
Gemini replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
OMG...I have to go to France! -
I hope you have a marvelous time on your cruise! It will be a very good thing to do this. Good for stress levels and a change of scenery is always good for the soul. I have also heard that cruises do a good job with the gluten free meals so make sure you contact them about that!

ARCHIVED Parabiotic (biogenisis)
Gemini replied to SanFranGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have had 2 similar experiences with herbal products that were gluten free. To the point where I will never use any herbals ever again. I am not knocking herbals because I think there are many good uses for them in medicine. Ask the Chinese....they use them extensively with good results. However, not everyone can tolerate them and I would suspect... -
ARCHIVED I Just don't know
Gemini replied to zenjess1980's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jess.......your list of conditions reads like the Who's Who of Celiac Disease! I am just floored and disturbed over the response you got from the AMA crowd. What I do know is this......I have Hashi's also and with the gluten-free diet and thyroid hormone replacement, things have calmed down and my thyroid is much easier to manage. Most of your conditions... -
ARCHIVED Help!! Don't believe GI doctor
Gemini replied to Caparici's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You know....you DO have Celiac Disease. No one develops lymphoma from being gluten sensitive, it occurs with full blown Celiac Disease that goes untreated or from being mistakenly told you do not have it after a negative biopsy. You had positive blood work and a negative biopsy.....that happens all the time to people, with good reason. You just did not... -
ARCHIVED Nursing Home Care—The Great Challenge for the Celiac
Gemini replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Long term care insurance! I am looking into the cost for this because if you buy the right kind, they will pay for in home care. It has made all the difference with my father, who is suffering from dementia.......probably from undagnosed Celiac! -
ARCHIVED Non-Stick Cooking Spray?
Gemini replied to E-Ren89's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What kareng said! Except for the baking sprays that contain flour, I have yet to find a cooking spray (plain) that was not safe to use. I think you will be able to learn to cook for a Celiac with no problems. If you take instruction from her and have the few, necessary dedicated items for use with gluten-free cooking only, there is no reason you cannot... -
I would ask for testing for related conditions that occur most frequently with Celiac. I think Rheumy's usually have a standard battery of blood work they might do and then they go from there. Good luck!

You are so right, Christiana! That stress buggar can make things worse temporarily. My protein level was ever so slightly elevated again when tested in January and it had been behaving itself for awhile. But with 2 deaths in the family in the past couple of years and additional family members diagnosed with diabetes and celiac, am I surprised? No.......

I have and always have had positive rheumatoid factor and it is related to the fact I have Sjogren's. I don't even give it a second thought. I think I told you once before that you will never have normal blood results with autoimmune disease. If you have multiples, even more so. It can also be difficult to figure out what you may have as many of the symptoms...

ARCHIVED I have kidney stones...spent last night at the ER
Gemini replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No, he was never admitted to the hospital but he spent some time in the ER, like you did. They ended up giving him morphine, the pain was so intense. The stones he had were on the large size. Sometimes they attach to the inside of the kidney and stay there. You never know with those things. Yeah, you almost have to drown your kidneys with water...... -
ARCHIVED I have kidney stones...spent last night at the ER
Gemini replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There is no reason to do a scope if you have had the imaging and know you have a kidney stone. My husband was scoped initially because when he had the kidney stones, he first had a bout with blood in his urine and I think they wanted to make sure there was nothing serious going on. Well.....you can sometimes bleed with a stone because those little spikes... -
ARCHIVED I have kidney stones...spent last night at the ER
Gemini replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Open Original Shared Link I have to admit, I do not like the list of foods to avoid. Chocolate????????? Tea???????????? Are they serious????????? You may want to do more research on that because there may be more up to date information on that now. This article really explains what happens with stones when you have them from Celiac Disease.... -
Open Original Shared Link This is an older article but I thought it contained some very interesting information on kidney stones.

ARCHIVED I have kidney stones...spent last night at the ER
Gemini replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Icelandgirl.......I am late to this topic as I have been sick with a horrible virus this week. But I have a good article at work on kidney stones and celiac disease and why they occur that you might find interesting. I hope to be back to work tomorrow so I will post it for you to see. Seems other people here have the problem too. My husband had a... -
They are not associated with Sjogren's that I know of but they associated with Celiac. I have a good article bookmarked on my work computer I can post tomorrow. I am not at work today. It explains why they happen with Celiac Disease. I think being gluten free long term will help with that.

My experience watching other people load up on meds has never been a good one. They all end up having major problems from drug interactions or side effects from these harsh drugs. I think when you are younger you may be able to tolerate them but as you age, that's when problems arise. If it is a matter of life and death, that's a different story. I have...

I am sorry to hear you have another AI problem. I also have Sjogren's and have known for years but it wasn't official to the doctors until about 10 years ago up when they did the blood work. I had positive everything. Maybe I can try to alleviate your fears a bit........ I find Sjogren's the worst of my 4 AI problems but it can be managed well with...
