  1. Well.....your doctor is wrong...that is a Celiac gene and one that can present with more severe cases of it. Stool testing is not valid for diagnosing Celiac Disease. Sorry, but it is not recognized by any Celiac expert or organization. Many people test negative on the blood testing and then have positive biopsies so having a negative test does not...
  2. You would be correct in saying that Nicole is a genius! She is sometimes referred to as Dr. Nicole....with good reason. She's a smart cookie! Having said that......I would not actually say that the AGA testing is unreliable. BUT...the DGP is newer and more sensitive and when you are trying to test a little girl of 18 months, it does make a difference...

    ARCHIVED Thyroid

The TSH is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone and it is released by your pituitary gland. It comes into play when it senses that thyroid hormone is either too low or too high. I would suggest you take a look at this website: Open Original Shared Link There is so much information on here it can make your head spin but there are different topics, relating to questions...
  4. I guess you also have to take into account that they are doing all the work. Same as dining out. Restaurants will charge a lot more than what I could make the food for myself at home but if you want the convenience while away and the peace of mind that comes with a dedicated facility, then I'll gladly pony up $13.00 for a pan of brownies. I still say the...
  5. You are way too early into the healing process to label yourself as sensitive, so don't lose hope in that department. If you ate the Lay's that are marked as gluten free and tested, it does not mean there are 20ppm's in the product. It could be zero or it could be 5. Lay's lists on their website which products are tested and then have a separate category...
  6. Gluten free goodies are always more expensive but they use good ingredients and those don't come cheap. The flour prices alone are much higher than the wheat crap. I know when I have looked at the ingredients list on regular, wheat filled bakery items, there is a lot of junk in there and that's when you have cheaper prices. You get what you pay for! Plus...

    ARCHIVED Thyroid

Hi Amanda, As the others have said, thyroid issues are common to those with Celiac Disease so don't become all freaked out about this. Thyroid can be managed with thyroid hormone, which you are now taking, but if the problem is autoimmune related like Hashimoto's, then sometimes it can swing a bit between hyper and hypo and hormone supplements have...
  8. vicki....are you taking digestive enzymes? That should help digest your food and ease the bloating. What you listed as eating was dairy heavy and fat heavy....even though avocado is a good fat, fat is fat as far as digestion is concerned. Maybe eat more chicken and fish, along with fruits and veggies that are well tolerated?
  9. This is awesome, Erika! I like your attitude. If you can't eat the food that is under your nose, then find a way to make it gluten free and these links will certainly help.- Thank you for sharing this.....much appreciated! European food is so YUM!!!!!!!!
  10. Isn't it amazing that GI doctors, who are supposed to know all about the GI tract and different diseases of the GI tract, still think, in 2015, that younger kids usually don't get Celiac? You know why they think that? Because they never look for it! You can't find what you don't look for. I'm with you......take the results of all testing and look...
  11. I do not suffer from depression but when glutened, I have anxiety problems and I have NEVER had that problem in my life. Apparently, my symptoms when glutened have changed a bit with age and Mr. Anxiety makes an appearance for at least 3-4 days. It is horrible so you are not alone. These 2 are common complaints. Considering that seratonin is also produced...
  12. Who can resist a dedicated bakery? I do not eat that many sweets but when you go on vacation, treats are a must. It will put a smile on your face.
  13. I just did a quick search for the areas you mentioned and great to see so many choices, with reviews! Not to mention this dedicated, gluten-free bakery..... Open Original Shared Link Yeah, I know, you can't live on sweets but a little on vacation is a good thing!
  14. Finding a completely gluten free place is rare, although they do exist. I am not braver, just completely comfortable with my screening process when dining out! I have been doing this for so long that it's second nature to me.....you will get there too! There are reviews on the website and I would trust the ones that are vetted by actual Celiac's. Higher...
  15. The chai or espresso based latte's, etc. (hot drinks) are all gluten free as it's just coffee, tea or a milk/milk substitute of some kind. Little chance of cc there. It's the blender drinks that would be of concern because not all of them are gluten-free and I don't think they scrub out the blenders in between. They use a quick jet wash, which isn't good...
  16. icelandgirl.....try using Open Original Shared Link Punch in the zip code or city name where you will be and it usually comes up with a load of choices for gluten-free dining, with reviews by other people who have eaten there. I find it very useful when traveling.
  17. If you have one of those docs who only go by the TSH, then you need a new doctor. While your TSH is not bad, your T4 is in the toilet. You have to include actual hormone levels in all thyroid testing to see what is going on. Like the above poster recommended, you need a full panel done!
  18. Thank you, Kareng! Looks like I have to do my Celiac 101 class again ........ Gwen.......the tTg test is not a test for dietary compliance, the DGP or AGA IgA/IgG are. The AGA testing is just an older version of the DGP but it is very reliable in it's own right. In order for your daughter to be ingesting gluten and have that be the reason for her spiked...
  19. HavaneseMom hit the nail on the head with the digestive enzymes. GERD is one of those problems that is symptom treated instead of finding the cause and many people do not have too much stomach acid, they have too little. Or their ability to produce the right amount of digestive enzymes is compromised by the damage to their small intestine. That will correct...
  20. The reason they are ignoring his blood work and saying he is negative for Celiac is because doctors who go by old standards will not diagnose Celiac unless they see flattened/blunted villi. Your son will have to do more damage to his intestinal tract in order for them to have a better chance of hitting the sweet spot on biopsy. That could take years and...
  21. This is the kind of medical "care" that makes me go crazy!!!!!!! With a positive tTg and positive EMA, the odds are about 98-99% its Celiac. I think the reason they don't say 100% with these results are because doctors cannot say absolute unless they see it on an x-ray. And yes, I am being snarky here. The reason his biopsy was negative was just...
  22. I agree with the above opinions on Cyrex. Perlmutter has some interesting thoughts on Celiac and the affect on the brain which I agree with totally because I do think it affects the brain greatly, from personal experience and from what I have seen in others whom I suspect have undiagnosed Celiac. But Tom O'Bryan really riles me because he makes a lot of...
  23. My GI symptoms resolved fairly quickly, although I did not start to gain weight for 6 months. It was the neuro symptoms that lingered for so long and the very last one to go took 3 years from diagnosis. I was also 46 at the time so that probably factored in also.....that damn aging fairy! I think once the neurological system is inflammed, it takes a...
  24. The problem I have with this diet is that the foods they cut out are foods that would be irritating to the gut anyway, regardless of whether or not they are supposedly contaminated, so you will never be able to know for sure what caused the slower healing. They allow fruit juices, which are incredibly irritating to the gut lining yet no coffee, no matter...
  25. EXACTLY! You will have sore tongue and mouth sores from either Celiac or Sjogren's. Mine cleared up completely with the gluten-free diet and never have come back.
