ARCHIVED Is It Safe To Vacuum Up Gluten?
Gemini replied to 123glldd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I lived in a 130 year old house for 26 years and moved out almost 1 year ago. I did work on that house many times and I had horsehair plaster and sheet rock all over the place. I am an extremely sensitive, diagnosed Celiac who nearly died from this disease. I hit the wall with Celiac in that house and I recovered well in that house. It was never, ever... -
This is an excellent explanation of the mechanism behind a psychosomatic reaction, for those who are having difficulty understanding my meaning. Very well said! It is a true reaction but not a Celiac reaction that will damage the intestines. It is important for those learning the diet to know that they aren't in danger if someone is eating a sandwich in...

If you react to the smell of toast, and I would assume you mean wheat toast, then you most likely had a psychosomatic reaction. That's what happens with me around strong gluten smells. It happens for many different reasons to people and why anyone would be insulted is.....well..... To the newly diagnosed and still in the learning process....do not...

ARCHIVED Transglutaminase Iga Ab - What Test Is This?
Gemini replied to Findin my way's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With symptoms and "mild villi flattening", plus the fact you had ITP, I would say with confidence you most likely have a gluten issue and I would lean it toward Celiac judging from having ITP. That is a very serious AI disease (which I don't need to tell YOU) and it's extremely rare, especially for a teenager. Gluten can do that, as it is not discriminatory... -
ARCHIVED Is Enteric Coating Ok?
Gemini replied to ASM613's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Enteric coatings are safe. They are usually made from fats, fiber, or waxes. I use enteric coated probiotics also and have so for 30 years. As an extremely sensitive Celiac, I would never have recovered if they were a problem as I take them everyday. I have never seen wheat used in them. Consider them safe! -
ARCHIVED Daughter In Crisis
Gemini replied to Dixie81411's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your daughters case was somewhat similar to mine. She sounds like she has had Celiac for awhile and now is getting to the point where she is so run down and dehydrated, it is becoming life threatening. If you present with classic Celiac, which I did, it can do this to you. I totally understand your frustration and worry...been there, done that. Doctors... -
ARCHIVED "seizure Like" After Eating Contaminated Foods
Gemini replied to Bexxa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm gonna go out on a limb here.....I think if you have had seizures in the past and you are having such extreme "seizure-like" episodes, it might be prudent to go to a doctor and have yourself looked at. You may not be reacting to this food at all and have a really serious underlying condition. I believe Chex cereals are manufactured in a dedicated facility... -
I am sorry that you seem so offended by a completely normal occurrence that happens to many people...myself included. If I thought the term psychosomatic was so bad, I certainly wouldn't use it to describe my experience but I am not an overly sensitive person...just one who seeks out and learns the truth. That seems to be the problem here more than anything...

Our opinions were not strong, just the opinions of regular Celiacs who know you cannot be glutened by vapors. I never said you were psycho....you read into it too much. Having a psychosomatic reaction is nothing to get upset about.....it happens to everyone at some point. It's just another type of reaction and, I firmly believe, one where your mind is trying...

ARCHIVED Adrenal Fatigue & Pancreas Mri
Gemini replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The choice in doctors is a difficult one. Mainstream physicians that you would see are endocrinologists but they tend to not treat a problem unless it gets really bad. I don't know if they believe the concept of adrenal exhaustion vs. out and out failure, like Addison's Disease. This is why so many people walk around feeling like crap. Their doctors tell... -
Psychosomatic reactions happen whether you anticipate a reaction or not and what you described could certainly have been one. I wasn't anticipating feeling nauseous either but it happened. Most Celiacs are sensitive and we all have to follow the same protocol to avoid ingesting gluten so this is not a measure of sensitivity. The reason why many have...

You have to ingest gluten into your gut to cause a Celiac reaction. You cannot be glutened by vapors. Having said that, smells can have an affect on people as I have experienced the same thing but I think it is a psychosomatic reaction. I get headaches and nausea when I smell pizza or any other strong smell involving gluten foods. I view it as my body...

I am totally impressed that your didn't chew this idiot a new bum hole or something! Isn't it comforting to know and instills all kinds of trust when a person who has supposedly graduated from med school doesn't know that Celiac is an AI disease? I have seen too many of these kinds of doctors and I still do not trust the medical profession farther...

ARCHIVED Anyone Know About Orthodontic Molds?
Gemini replied to MitziG's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yup...it does. However, after a year or two, it becomes second nature. I promise! You'll become an old pro! -
ARCHIVED Adrenal Fatigue & Pancreas Mri
Gemini replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
That attitude about removing tonsils was rampant when I had mine out in the early 70's but the doctor insisted and he apparently was correct. He was an outside of the box thinker and not the norm. I also had many ear infections and problems as a kid but that has all gone away. I did have skin problems for years which all cleared up after going gluten... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know About Orthodontic Molds?
Gemini replied to MitziG's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh, no...you do not have to do that! I asked because when you check ingredients, ask them to read the label to you and don't rely on a non-Celiac to check the products used. They really have no idea. I only trust my set of eyes to check a product. I might go so far as to guess that they mistakenly assumed natural flavors=gluten. That's all I meant. ... -
Oh, Lordy...where to begin? The first thing you need to do is get a new doctor because what he told you is only partially true. The wheat in Europe may not have as high a gluten content as wheat made in America has BUT gluten is gluten and ingestion of any is forbidden to a Celiac or gluten sensitive person. I have no idea why you did not react,...

ARCHIVED Anyone Know About Orthodontic Molds?
Gemini replied to MitziG's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Who did you call and ask? The company that makes the dental product or the dental office? Actually, either party may not be reliable unless they have Celiac and know what to look for. There aren't too many companies that make dental products, at least here in the States. Most dentists order from a small group of businesses that specifically supply most... -
ARCHIVED Adrenal Fatigue & Pancreas Mri

I gotcha now...Medrol! Some implant dentists like to use that after surgery to help with swelling but my old stand-by for that is Ibuprofin. It works well for me so I always avoid the steroids. But that's an individual choice and if you want to take it to feel better, then do so. I will add one thing to think about and I hope I am not overwhelming you.... -
ARCHIVED Adrenal Fatigue & Pancreas Mri
Gemini replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I went to a hematologist too because of wonky blood results in the beginning of being gluten-free. You must learn to expect wonky blood results with celiac...it happens. It does not mean you are dying or anything. Besides, most of my wonkiness disappeared after being gluten-free for 3 years or so. You need to get the low platelet thing checked out because... -
ARCHIVED Adrenal Fatigue & Pancreas Mri
Gemini replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I always like to pig out! Actually, I eat about every 3-4 hours and most of what I eat during the day is protein and veggies/fruits. I do not eat too many carbs, except at breakfast, to provide some energy along with the protein, and then again later in the evening when I snack a bit. Dinners are usually protein, veggies and a small serving of rice... -
ARCHIVED Last Ditch Rant... I Need Serious Help
Gemini replied to Littllemel's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I agree with Richard, Mel. When a person cannot eat and it gets to the point where you are down to jello or water or something along those lines, have a good long look at the gallbladder. When it is diseased or malfunctioning, you cannot tolerate fats AT ALL. None. It'll make you sick and in pain. The other tests they are doing are good but don't ignore... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know About Orthodontic Molds?
Gemini replied to MitziG's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As someone who has most likely had more dental work done that all of the forumites on here combined, I have never found any dental mold or composite to have any gluten whatsoever...even the flavored ones. Natural flavorings are almost always gluten free but I won't say 100% because no one can say that with 100% certainty. I know wheat does not have to labeled... -
ARCHIVED Adrenal Fatigue & Pancreas Mri
Gemini replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
All of your anxiety may be from stressed adrenals, so it's a vicious circle. You make an effort not to be stressed and anxious yet....it happens anyway. I know that feeling and I am about as far from being an anxious person as they come. Yet, lately, I am anxious about a number of things. Never happened to me before. So, when you notice these things happening... -
ARCHIVED Adrenal Fatigue & Pancreas Mri
Gemini replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
SleepyBunny......I think we have spoken before about this subject and I would be very interested to hear what the final outcome of your testing is. I would venture to guess that he is looking at the pancreas because you are having blood sugar problems? The pancreas can be damaged by Celiac in a number of ways but please do not worry too much. I know that...
