And knowing Boston traffic very well, and the pleasures of parking, I congratulate your diagnosis! That was hard earned!

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Diet Cured? Type 1 Diabetes
Gemini replied to icm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Isn't she the chiropractor who blogs about Celiac or thinks she is an authority on it? Type 1 diabetes is one of the other diseases that is strongly associated with Celiac. This child may have had blood sugar issues that were not quite full blown diabetes and now his blood sugar issues have calmed down once gluten free. I had 2 massive blood sugar reactions... -
Tea bags do not have gluten in them and are perfectly safe for Celiacs to use. You were given incorrect information by the manufacturer.....probably not a Celiac.

Good on ya for pointing this out! If the health care system is so expensive in America, why do we get citizens of every other country flooding here to take advantage of our medical system? Medicine is not cheap, by any means, and it's not supposed to be. You get what you pay for. And it certainly isn't free in other countries, either, as you pointed...

ARCHIVED Starving After Starting Thyroid Meds
Gemini replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I haven't been tested for Addison's but am familiar with it. I have 4 autoimmune diseases, total, so have become quite familair with many of them. I doubt I have Addison's because I really don't have any of the symptoms, other than fatigue once in a while and that is also a symptom for all of the other ones I have. I stopped collecting AI diseases when... -

No....if there is one area that I am really good on it's the blood sugar. Except if I go too long without eating, I will get a headache but that's normal for just about everyone. My blood sugar is always low normal and doesn't vary too much so I am lucky. We really sound alike.....including the supportive husband. That's how I manage! -

JNBuunnie....this post was a riot! Boston baked beans are the best. Not those wimpy, tomato based things but real beans swimming in a molasses based sauce and slow cooked to perfection. You people haven't lived until you've had them. I never liked any carney food...always made me sick. I wonder why? -
ARCHIVED Starving After Starting Thyroid Meds
Gemini replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Looks like I have another twin on this forum! I am so not a morning person and I know it all has to do with adrenals and thyroid function, but most people don't understand that. They barely comprehend Celiac, never mind thyroid problems. I changed my hours at work because I just cannot be anywhere at 8:30 in the morning. I am a slow starter and it... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Makeup In Dept. Stores
Gemini replied to wannabhealthy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Did you know that you will not have a DH outbreak from touching gluten? Like classic Celiac, the reaction comes from within...you still have to ingest gluten to cause a DH outbreak. Having said that, I would assume that anyone with the skin version of Celiac may also run a very high risk of having a topical allergy to wheat. That may be why people break... -

Yup, you have that right but that kind of thinking doesn't always play well with some. I wear make-up everyday, nearly died from this disease when I was diagnosed, and still wear make-up, like before. I only screen the most obvious things like lip products and body/hand cream. I am careful and have a routine that has worked well for 7 years. Never, ever have... -
ARCHIVED Starving After Starting Thyroid Meds
Gemini replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is my number one symptom when my T3 or T4 is low. It's a major effort to get my butt out of bed but I have a job and have to. I have been doing this for over 20 years and the Celiac is easy compared to regulating my Hashi's thyroid. I have periods of time when all is well and then BAM! I have to re-adjust my dosage. It usually occurs when I am very... -
ARCHIVED Can't Get A Real Diagnosis
Gemini replied to Laury's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What is this business with a "real" diagnosis? Why do people think that if you don't have a biopsy slide to show damage, you don't have a diagnosis? You have done a dietary trial with good results and, most important of all, you have the main Celiac gene, which can predispose you to Celiac. You may have it or it may be non-Celiac gluten intolerance but... -
One of my favorite movies is "Marty".....as they say in Boston, what an actah! All of the "Old Hollywood" talent are almost gone and it's so sad because New Hollywood can't hold a candle to these performers. Thank goodness they live on in the movies they made. For those who are not familiar with Andy Griffith and Ernie Borgnine, rent "A Face in the Crowd...

Thanks for the tip on these places!

I have eaten here also, in the past year, and the food was amazing. Their gluten-free menu is excellent and they bring you out warm gluten-free rolls too! It is not a cheap eats place and reservations are strongly recommended in summer but the food was so good, I didn't care how much it costs. I felt great after eating there and I am very, very sensitive...

ARCHIVED Kraft And Cross-Contamination O.0
Gemini replied to cavernio's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh...this begs a response......sorry if you don't like common sense and reality, cavernio, but guess what? The food world does not revolve around you. To even imply that most of the people on this forum aren't careful enough with their diets is an ignorant thing to whine about. Just because someone eats a Kraft product does not mean they are taking undue... -
ARCHIVED Is There Any Point In Seeing A Gastro?
Gemini replied to heather806's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Unless you want to be scoped from both ends, don't bother with a gastro. I have always found them to be the most aggravating doctors on the planet. They cannot do anything, it seems, without scoping people and not everyone needs a scope. If you find you have on going problems after going gluten free for awhile, then it might be prudent to see one but I... -

ARCHIVED Confined To Bed For A Year
Gemini replied to ShannonA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would highly suggest reading: Celiac Disease: The Hidden Epidemic by Dr. Peter Green. He is one of the leading Celiac doctors in the US and the book does an excellent job of explaining everything and most importantly, gives a good tutorial on how the digestive system works so you may understand the disease process better. It is a wealth of information... -
ARCHIVED Confined To Bed For A Year
Gemini replied to ShannonA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think you are sensitive...this is what most Celiac's go through when they have even a smidgen of wheat or CC. That is the norm for us. All of your symptoms could definitely be from having Celiac or are associated conditions to the disease. The reason no one ever mentioned this to you is because doctors just will not address food issues with people... -
ARCHIVED Confusion About Levels Of Sensitivity...
Gemini replied to healinginprogress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am a very sensitive diagnosed Celiac who had horrific gastro symptoms and always know when I have been glutened. I also wear make-up, color my hair, and sometimes get manicures. I only screen lip products and body lotion, for obvious reasons. I use the body lotion on my hands so that is gluten-free. I have never found it necessary to screen mascara,... -
This was a great post, Stu, and I couldn't agree with you more! I realize that some people have medical issues that need a doctors care but I find that people rely too much on doctors to begin with. Celiac's can do well on their own, after they are healed. There is no need to go overboard with additional testing, unless you are having problems which need...

I was deathly ill when first diagnosed but started feeling better as each day went on that I ate gluten free. At least the gastric problems calmed down fairly quickly, which was good because I had booked a trip to London months before and if I did not get on that plane, I would have lost a whole lot of money. So, I decided to go. We had rented an apartment...

I think that saying most people have herpes simplex 1 is a huge overstatement. They do not. Mouth sores are extremely common in Celiac Disease and are caused by nothing else but inflammation and gluten exposure. I had them for years due to undiagnosed Celiac, to the point where they thought I had cancer. Not that either......it was gluten. I have been...
