ARCHIVED 3 Years Into gluten-free Diet And Tired Of Being Different
Gemini replied to lloydke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If we had a medical profession who did their jobs, and accepted that many foods are the root cause of many illnesses, this would not happen! Some people only believe it when the people in the white coats tell them so. That would be my family...... -
ARCHIVED 3 Years Into gluten-free Diet And Tired Of Being Different
Gemini replied to lloydke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And you know you are most welcome in my home because you won't mind the "No Gluten Allowed" sign! Isn't it sad when you would invite and welcome someone with Celiac you have never met and then ban your blood relatives from coming because they won't honor your attempts to be healthy? Probably would have a much better time anyway! -
ARCHIVED Need To Pick Your Brains Friends- Why Is My Dad Losing Muscle?
Gemini replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mitzi...your father most likely has very active Celiac and the fact that he has much less stomach distress does not mean he probably does not have Celiac and is just gluten intolerant. Muscle loss and wasting happens when you have burned up all the fat and then your body starts burning muscle. Your body needs a food source and will burn muscle when nothing... -
ARCHIVED 3 Years Into gluten-free Diet And Tired Of Being Different
Gemini replied to lloydke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Keith....my nutty family think I am the nutcase because I have informed them that no one is bringing any gluten crap into my brand new house/kitchen. I finally have my dream kitchen and they thought the Christmas party would be held there this year, until I asked them if they all were planning on eating gluten free? I think if they had the power, they... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Other Products Besides Food?
Gemini replied to Skittles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have never seen any dish washing soap that contained gluten. They may exist but I have never seen one. Also, do you not rinse your dishes well after washing or do you let the soap dry on the dish? That would be the only issue with dish washing detergent being a problem for a Celiac AND it would have to contain gluten. This is a common sense issue more... -
ARCHIVED 3 Years Into gluten-free Diet And Tired Of Being Different
Gemini replied to lloydke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Whew! I was beginning to get worried...... I guess I did not inherit the "I'm worried about being different" gene because at no time have I ever been worried or bothered about being perceived as not "normal". I don't want to be like everyone else because most of the population eat a crap diet that will eventually make them very sick anyway....and I... -
ARCHIVED 3 Years Into gluten-free Diet And Tired Of Being Different

Since when does the act of not eating gluten make me not normal? What has diet got to do with normal? -
ARCHIVED Tazo Bottled Drinks And Gluten..?
Gemini replied to GLUTEN FREE IN SLC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The reason companies do not go overboard with allergy information or try to guarantee gluten free status is because American liability laws heavily favor the consumer. If a company knows they may get sued by some people who make a huge deal out of things, then they are not as inclined to cater to the allergy crowd. You have to remember, you take full responsibility... -
ARCHIVED Aleias's Almond Horns
Gemini replied to TiaMichi2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have had those cookies and love them....the brand is very, very good. However, I can tolerate gluten-free oats just fine but I ate a lot of oatmeal before I was diagnosed. I am very sensitive also but have never had a problem with any of their cookies. They do make an oatmeal raisin one which probably is what bothered you. I don't know how long you have... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Other Products Besides Food?
Gemini replied to Skittles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is a personal choice issue, not a medical necessity. It all depends on your personal habits and whether you feel that they will contribute to ingesting gluten into your GI tract. I am a bath person and rarely take showers anyway.....much easier to not ingest soap in a bathtub vs. a shower. I do not screen make-up and I am an extremely sensitive, diagnosed... -
Yes, I know you want your daughter healed right away but relax.....she will heal fine but it will take time. The AMA have made you fearful and they are very good at that. I was 46 at time of diagnosis and I had Celiac symptoms for most of my entire life and they missed it. That is very common for blood work to come back negative in many people and then...

ARCHIVED Frizzy, Dry Hair After Year gluten-free
Gemini replied to sreese68's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You may want to get your thyroid checked as that is one of the symptoms of hypothyroid. My hair improved dramatically once my thyroid was treated. Coloring your hair should not dry it out unless you use cheaper products. OTC color is not as good as salon color. I color my hair every 4 weeks as my hair grows very fast. I use Framesi hair color, which is... -
ARCHIVED Expensive
Gemini replied to razzle51's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wheat, corn and soy are heavily subsidized crops and the prices are artificially low. When you think about it, it is not normal for these products to cost so little. Most of the foods with these as a base are not very healthy to begin with......all heavily processed and genetically modified. Then you have the healthier, gluten-free grains and these are not... -
This is the kind of stuff that makes me wonder why anyone listens to doctors......the reason your daughter has high antibodies is because of gluten ingestion. This is why I know she had Celiac first, not Hashi's. My antibodies were off the charts also and never came down until I went strictly gluten free......and that took another 6 years. Antibodies only...

ARCHIVED Levels Of Celiac?
Gemini replied to 1974girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Maybe I can clarify things for you as what your doctors told you isn't completely true...and I readily admit I have little use for the AMA. Think of Celiac as the Mother Ship of autoimmune diseases. It creates all this inflammation in your body over time and you don't know it yet. You have symptoms or maybe not but the damage is being done. It affects... -
ARCHIVED Sign Petition For Chipotle To Stop Using Soybean Oil
Gemini replied to kaygato's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I can guarantee you that, soy is NOT worse for me than wheat. Without exaggeration, wheat nearly killed me but soy has never caused me any grief. Ditto for corn....you can source non-GMO corn. I know you are trying to be helpful and I appreciate your concern but I am doing pretty good these days and am not having any issues with all the autoimmune problems... -
ARCHIVED Sign Petition For Chipotle To Stop Using Soybean Oil
Gemini replied to kaygato's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Naturally, a fast food joint would use cheap soybean oil....that goes without saying. All fast food is derived from cheap food products and that's why you can get a whole meal there for next to nothing, money-wise. But I eat protein bars that have non-GMO soy in them. There are companies that source their soy products they use to be non-GMO. I also am... -
ARCHIVED Going Gluten Free With Your Pets
Gemini replied to farmer jennings's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Honestly, I don't think kitty litter is an issue for Celiacs and even if they did contain any wheat, barley or rye, ingesting any would be the worst thing you could do and the concern would not be gluten! -
ARCHIVED I'm Going Bonkers Over The Diificulties Of Celiac Disease!
Gemini replied to MikeOhio's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I truly am sorry that you are having such a hard time with this. It is annoying that gluten-free food products cost so much but there are reasons for it which have been stated. The cost of producing and keeping a dedicated facility is high so the consumer, as the user of the product, has to bear the brunt of the cost. I personally don't want the government... -
Not a freak....no. Just a lucky person that is not bothered by smells. It's admirable that you can smell donuts and not succumb to eating them or not feel nauseous by doing so. Coffee...different story. No gluten in the vast majority of coffee but the smell is wonderful. I still drink coffee and I love the smell of freshly brewed joe!
-
That is a very interesting thought on the subject and you could be on to something about cell memory. Perhaps it's the memory of what gluten does to you that creates this slight reaction. I always felt it was your bodies way of protecting you from harm. I also get nauseous from standing too close to pizza when it is being baked but it goes away when I get...

Man, I love your attitude! People.....we have another fighter here! Older women have such confidence. Your MS and bone problems can be made a lot better with weight training and exercise. It won't be easy and it wasn't for me because I had muscle wasting from years of undiagnosed Celiac. I was always the wimpy kid with no strength....NOT ANY MORE...
-
No, you are not super sensitive. This is pretty common with Celiacs and something I have had happen. It's not a gluten hit but more of a psychosomatic reaction to the smell of wheat based food. I get nauseous when I go down the bread isle in a mainstream grocery store because of the smell of all that wheaty processed food. Blech. That's why I shop at Whole...

I also have osteoporosis/osteopenia from years of undiagnosed Celiac and my preferred course of treatment has been to do weight training and core exercises, with the help of a personal trainer. The bone meds they like to push on people do not build bone from the inside of the bone....just stops the break down of old bone and deposits new bone on the outside...

Wendybird......I have had Hashi's for 20 years and am pretty well versed on the subject. Not an expert but I know and have seen a lot. Yes, you can have Hashi's brewing and I think it will not start showing in blood work for awhile. You can have symptoms and not have it show in your blood work, in the beginning. Once it starts to really attack the thyroid...
