  1. I am sorry but I have to comment on this paragraph and sometimes it's really hard not to insult people, but I will try and word this as best I can.... Please post proof that gluten cc shuts down blood flow through the carotid arteries by 30%, leading to depression, or state that this is your opinion only because this is not what causes depression. Depression...
  2. You do not have to move to Canada to eat safely or be able to read labels. There is a big learning curve with this diet but, in time, you will figure out what you can safely consume. The vast majority of Celiacs can eat safely from companies with dedicated facilities without fear of cc or ingesting gluten at unsafe levels...or any gluten at all, as Peter...
  3. You are correct...the tests to ask for are the AGA IgA and AGA IgG. There is a newer one called DGP, Demeadiated Gliadin Protein, which I think is more sensitive/accurate but that test was not around when I was diagnosed so I just go with the other 2 when I re-test occasionally. It is unusual if you ever test to 0 and not required but you want the number...
  4. It is normal for Celiac disease to raise liver enzymes. Many Celiacs, myself included, had raised levels pre-diagnosis. Mine returned to normal after following the gluten-free diet. I was not drinking then at all because I could not tolerate alcohol before I went gluten free. Now, it's a whole different ballgame! Love my red wine! Autoimmune liver...
  5. Well...that's nothing new with doctors and autoimmune disease, is it?
  6. I respectfully disagree with you on this one. Those of us who have mastered this diet and all the quirks are not being careless in any way, regardless of what others may think. I do not have any problems with wheat allergies so topical gluten isn't a problem. There are things that are no-brainers like hand cream and lip products which every Celiac should...
  7. Sugar is far worse to quit than gluten...been there, done that. Too much sugar will feed all that bad bacteria in your gut and make things far worse. You most likely have leaky gut too. You can have a little but too much and you'll feel like crap. Which makes me feel great because there is some sugar in the box, Strawberry. Maybe your boyfriend can keep...
  8. If you have trouble tolerating fats, which is a huge problem for me also, then the GAPS diet will not be good for you. Many Celiacs have pancreatic insufficiency, as do I, and you will need to take a digestive enzyme to digest any fats you eat. I cannot tolerate avocados at all and hate them because they make me sick. Ditto for meat broth soups, unless...
  9. Character assassination? Let's not make mountains out of molehills.....
  10. I never meant to imply that you were not compliant with the diet....quite the contrary, I stated that this was not the case. I think you misunderstood my meaning. Refractory usually occurs when one doesn't know they have Celiac and keeps eating gluten or is not compliant to the diet after diagnosis. It doesn't usually occur if someone has been long term...
  11. I really hate it when celebs disclose a health issue and then leave you hanging with the diagnosis....especially with AI diseases. I agree that if you have multiples or even one AI disease, then you better look for Celiac or do a dietary trial. I ended up with 4, like your daughter, and it was all because I went too long with undiagnosed Celiac. I will...
  12. Open Original Shared Link Anyone want to make guesses as to which AI disease he may have? Never heard of a lupus like AI disease!
  13. I would think that anyone using nail polish or remover would wash their hands well before eating or eat with utensils. Usually nail polish remover is made from acetone, although there is acetone free remover available, which contains alcohol. Neither of these chemicals should ever be ingested and I would think that would be a bigger worry than ingesting gluten...
  14. Considering that Enjoy Life Products are free from the 8 major allergens, it is highly doubtful that even those who are sensitive (myself included), would react to their products. You have only been gluten-free for 3 months, you ate quite a few cookies and they contain xanthan gum? I have reacted badly to xanthan gum in the past and it does cause grief...
  15. The anemia that you have had since 2002 explains a lot more than just being tired. You know, I was anemic my entire adult life, from 18 to 46, when I hit the wall with Celiac and almost died. Yup....many a doctor blew me off and told me I was anemic due to heavy periods. The problem with that explanation is I never had a heavy period in my life, until I...
  16. Only a genius would think of putting chocolate and oatmeal together and have it be good! Whenever you get your recipe box back, please post ingredient amounts and I'll give it a whirl. I have recently moved into temporary housing also until our condo is built so I know all about having stuff in storage. I've already thought of things I shouldn't have packed...
  17. I think the way it works is that smoking is somewhat of an immune suppressor, like alcohol can be. While you smoke, symptoms are kept somewhat at bay because your immune system is suppressed to a certain degree. I quit smoking 4 months before I hit the wall with Celiac so I would tend to agree with this. It was bad......
  18. Oatmeal fudge? You know, if it were gluten free, I would give it a try!
  19. Same here. I eat gluten-free oats with no problem but I obviously have no issue with the oat protein. There are brands that are truly gluten-free and I think it a shame that doctors do the scare tactics with people. I can't imagine being terrified of trying gluten-free oats! It has nothing to do with sensitivity either because I am an extremely sensitive...
  20. It is a very foolish person who mistakenly believes that symptoms and damage like this after a strict 10 year gluten-free diet could not be something more serious than low levels of gluten....which has not been established by any reputable Celiac group or intensive medical study. Lymphoma can present as Refractory and anyone that becomes this sick needs...
  21. Thank you , IrishHeart, for bringing this up. I was really hesitant to say anything because I am the last person who wants to scare anyone to such a degree but I think it's something that definitley needs looking into. Refractory Sprue generally develops when you never go gluten-free when you should or you are lax with the diet...really lax. Does not sound...
  22. You people need to stop talking about all this delicious food.....I WANT SOME!!!!! Otherwise, I shall show up at your house in Croatia for some wood fired pizza! Scott......can I hire you as a chef? OMG...I love Sticky Toffee Pudding!
  23. That is very astute of you to recognize the connection between a DH break-out and it being connected to the food you are eating! That is supposedly the way it works as the reaction comes from within but I think that anyone who has skin issues with Celiac probably runs a higher risk of having an additional wheat allergy, which is different to an intolerance...
  24. If you are that diligent with your diet, it may not be gluten at all that is causing your blunted villi. An intolerance of cow's milk or soy protein can also flatten villi. Could it be possible that you have developed another intolerance along the way? That is very common with Celiac. I have also read that certain intestinal infections can do the same...
  25. Nature-throid is completely gluten-free. I have used it for a long time, am an incredibly sensitive Celiac and I have had no weirdness with it. It is also far better to take a thyroid med with both T3 and T4 in it, as opposed to Levoxyl, which is only T4. I used Levoxyl for a while but it did not do the job for me because it's a T4 med only. I know it...
