  1. I wouldn't worry at all about your numbers...they are rarely in the normal range after 6 months. I was re-tested at 1 year and they were good then but my tTg was still in the high normal range , due to other autoimmune conditions. You are doing fine so don't worry that you are being cross contaminated. If the numbers were still high after a year or year...
  2. I have had the Sainsbury's digestive biscuits before and they are really good! I did miss those when diagnosed but now there are companies that make them gluten-free. There is another line of cookies called True Free, I think, and those are excellent also. I got them in the UK, though, not Ireland. Thank you for this information. I do vacation in the...
  3. Oh, my! We have a snack expert here! I am writing this all down for myself, although I have had and love the Namaste mixes and Chebe bread. I did not know they were soy free also. That's awesome of you to offer postage and we'll have to wait and see if Strawberry takes us up on it. How could anyone resist that list? You could gain weight just...
  4. These are good suggestions and yes, Sainsbury's has a good selection of gluten-free foods but she is also dairy and soy free too. Do they have foods that fall under this catergory? As far as gluten free goodies go, no one knows if they will react to them until they try them. If you are careful with your source, they shouldn't be a problem. No one, not...
  5. Thank you, Mushroom! I am going to add this, which I discovered from a google search: Open Original Shared Link They have a dedicated facility for many of the major allergins. Is there anything you see that looks good? The Enjoy Life chocolate chips are really good too. You are in the same boat I was. Really painfully thin, from what you say,...
  6. We Celiacs have to stick together! It can be scary to be in a foreign country and not find food you can safely eat. It does get easier but it also helps to have some money and that's hard for college students. My niece is studying in Spain this semester and I would like to think if she needed help, someone would be kind enough to do so. Although she can...
  7. That is tough because I am essentially gluten free and dairy lite. Soy is fine for me so I am not familiar with all those restrictions together. Anyone else have any ideas on good snacks? Are there any foods you can think of that you know you can tolerate from WF? They have hot rice cereals there so I could buy that. Maybe others will chime in on the...
  8. Marilyn...looks like we had almost the same journey! I am also in my 50's and have been gluten free for almost 7 years now. I completely agree about the wonky blood draws. As a Celiac, you will have wonky blood draws so get used to it. It does not mean you have the disease they are testing you for. A quick background...I have Celiac, Sjogren's, Raynaud...
  9. It really isn't worth it in the States to try and deduct gluten-free food as medical expenses. It only adds up if you pay for surgery out of pocket. You can only deduct the difference and it has to be a minimum of 7 1/2% of your total adjusted income. If you buy a LOT of processed foods and have other medical problems where you shell out a lot of money,...
  10. Actually, your immune system is not compromised with Celiac. At least not to weaken it. Your immune system becomes overactive with the ingestion of gluten but that will damage your intestines so malabsorption could be keeping you from absorbing vitamins well and then you become run down.
  11. Strawberry...I noticed that also when I was in Dublin last May. I wondered where all the large grocery stores were? There seems to be a bunch of smaller everything and it could be difficult to find gluten-free groceries. I had much better luck eating out but that gets expensive. I am not knocking Ireland as I liked the country very much but it is different...
  12. I also have both Raynaud's and Sjogren's and diagnosed myself because the docs just missed everything. I went back to them and asked for the blood work for the Sjogren's and it turned out positive. You are correct...thank goodness for the internet but doctors absolutely hate that! What all of you need are hot flashes. I use flannel sheets all...
  13. I replied to you in a PM but will add that from your blood work, it doesn't look like gluten is the culprit. Your gliadin IgA has come down very nicely and that's the test for compliance. Feeling crummy can come out of nowhere for anyone and eliminating dairy for now is probably a good idea. I developed a problem with dairy 2 years into the diet. I can...
  14. You know, Raven....I had elevated liver enzymes when I wasn't drinking at all and it was the same as you...undiagnosed celiac disease. Now that I am healed and drinking wine everyday, my liver panels are great!
  15. Oh yes, I absolutely know what you mean! I went through quite a few doctors myself trying to find one that knew what they were doing with my thyroid. Traditional medicine was OUT and I went to a functional medicine doctor and have now been going to her for almost 25 years. She's the only one who knew how to manage Hashi's thyroid and get my antibodies...
  16. Don't sweat it! Europe is pretty easy to eat gluten-free as the awareness is high. Dining cards are good to have when English may not be a first language but Europeans tend to eat better than Americans do and there is plenty of fish, veggies, potatoes and rice. They eat less processed foods. I have also found that their sauces do not contain wheat at the...
  17. Be prepared for the docs to tell you that gluten has nothing to do with elevated fibrinogen counts. They are clueless. It's an inflammatory marker and many Celiacs, including myself, had high markers and other high test results that resolved with the gluten-free diet. If you get rid of the source of inflammation (gluten), your body heals. I had a high...
  18. I have to agree with your line of thought, Skylark. It's another area where doctors go overboard. I do think if you are still healing, then maybe alcohol should be avoided. I did not drink at all for most of my adult life because I was a mess from undiagnosed Celiac and it ripped up my gut. However, I have healed really well and have a new found love for...
  19. I think there is way too much over thinking on this issue by many. I also think that anyone who would consider a Celiac "damaged goods" of sorts should open their eyes and take a look at most of the American public. They are in way worse shape than many Celiacs I know. They eat crap, they don't exercise and are in generally very bad shape. There is no big...
  20. I once had a blood test that showed high fibrinogen counts but have never had any blood clots or anything of that nature, either. It is an inflammatory marker and Celiac Disease will cause massive inflammation in the body. Doctors like to scare the hell out of people, don't they? This test was run when I was not gluten free but suffering from advanced Celiac...
  21. Open Original Shared Link I use King Arthur flours routinely and I do not have a problem with certified gluten-free oats. I looked on line at their site and linked their information page. It looks like they do not process oats in the same facility as their gluten-free flours. Could you please reference where you got this information?
  22. This thread has cracked me up! It's good to see people enjoy their food! I feel the same way about Canyon cinnamon raisin bread. I stopped buying it for awhile because I made a piggy of myself. Thank God we have people who make the effort to develop good gluten-free bread!
  23. Could you get copies of your testing and post which tests were run and the numbers? It's hard to give advice when I don't know which tests were run because that does make a difference. All I can generally say is that 5 months is not a very long time to be gluten-free and expect your numbers to be stellar. I never re-tested for 1 year and then my numbers...
  24. I have Reynaud's Syndrome and some of the suggestions given here by other posters are good advice. I have refused to go to any Rheumatologists for my multiple autoimmune problems because they are for people who look to medication for answers and that rarely happens. I got sick of being hounded and you are smart for not wanting to take anything. For...
  25. Another good post from Sylvia, the voice of reason!
