  1. I respectfully share your need to vent away but my vent, and it's a small one, will somewhat counter yours! The notion that packaged gluten-free food is contaminated to such a great extent is just not true. If it were, the majority of Celiacs would not recover. There are definitely bad companies out there but just because one may choose to produce...
  2. As Frieze already mentioned, Crohn's is an inflammatory disease of the large intestine, while Celiac is the small intestine. Similar symptoms but each affects a different part of the bowel. Crohn's has genetic components to it and that's why you see it run in families...like Celiac. However, you cannot knock it into remission by diet alone. I think it...
  3. Afraid of super sensitivity? How is that different than coming very close to death from this disease? That is real fear of which I and many others I have met faced. When I reacted to labeled gluten-free foods, I didn't automatically assume that it was from gluten. There are other ingredients in most gluten-free processed foods. It is always the smart route...
  4. Low white cell counts are common with people that have multiple autoimmune issues, which it looks like you have. I also have low white cell counts, which commonly dip into the mid 2's but I am rarely sick so do not worry about it. It is also common to have lower RBC's. I have found that even healed Celiacs have less than robust counts, including myself...
  5. Starbucks success with allergies depends heavily on their employee's. I usually go to the same stores and they have been great. I only drink one of 2 drinks there so have never had a problem in 7 years. I think the only tea's that are of concern with Tazo are the herbal and flavored ones. I don't like either so sticking with plain black and green tea works...
  6. Hi Kate....sorry you are feeling poorly! I know full well the trauma of the Big D in a foreign country! I doubt you have food poisoning because food poisoning usually is more violent a reaction as in diarrhea and vomiting that does not stop until the bacteria has run it's course. With a gluten hit, you can have the Big D a lot but can go hours without...
  7. Aside from homemade gluten-free bread, Canyon is the best gluten-free bread on the market. It is certified gluten-free, from a dedicated facility and safe for most Celiacs to consume. Try the San Juan 7 grain....delicious!
  8. Why would a cheeseburger make anyone sick? OK...dump the cheese and get some buffalo meat. It is very lean, much leaner than cow, and won't cause a problem if fats are trouble right now. I still have trouble digesting fats so know what I am talking about. You definitely need to be eating protein or you won't heal. Is there any way you could get some me...
  9. Riceguy...who the hell says I am not being super careful? That's a flippant statement to make considering I nearly died from this disease. I can assure you that no one is more careful than I am about what goes into my gut but I have educated myself on the disease extensively so base my statements on reality for the vast majority of Celiacs out there......
  10. Modiddly....don't panic yet! I also like the green tea/lemonade drinks at Bucky's and I have never had any type of reaction to them at all, which would not happen if they contained gluten. I am just too sensitive a Celiac. The above info is confusing because Tazo makes a bottled green tea lemonade drink which is the one that is not gluten-free. The...
  11. Considering that most of what you say on this forum is personal opinion and not fact with regards to the issue of super sensitivity, why is this important to you now? Please provide proof, Stephanie, that your reactions to certified gluten free foods were from gluten. You haven't provided any proof because there is none. There are many reasons why...
  12. Those are flavored tea's so that is why they may not be gluten free. Their regular black and green tea are gluten free.
  13. As usual, when certain people post to this forum, the conversation inevitably becomes downright anal and combative. There very well could be millions of Celiacs out there who are not MD diagnosed but self diagnosed and doing wonderfully on the gluten-free diet. They are not on the radar. From all I have seen and read since being diagnosed 7 years ago, there...
  14. Amen to that about the coffee! It's my reason to get up in the morning! I think you have a handle on things now and are making wise choices. Diet first, then worry about the cigs later. You want to come out of this alive and well so baby steps, baby steps!
  15. Actually, most Advil here in the States is gluten free. Many of the generic brands also are labeled on the package as gluten-free....CVS pharmacy does that. Rule of thumb when buying aspirin, Advil, etc.......use the plain capsules/tablets and not the ones filled with liquid that are colored. Those are unknown territory but I have never been glutened by...
  16. Certified gluten-free is as good as it gets in Celiac world but if you choose not to eat something out of fear, then do not post that certified gluten-free may not be enough. That's an opinion that does not apply to the vast majority of Celiacs. Coconut milk is fat....healthy fat but fat none the less. If I eat too much fat anything, I get gluten like...
  17. Open Original Shared Link This place was phenomenal! I had the chicken pesto sandwich and they make their own gluten-free bread. The bread was grilled.....mmmmmmmm! I don't know what they do for soy intolerances here as it's advertised as a Celia menu only but the guy working there was so friendly, I bet he could help out. He may have been the owner...
  18. Yeah, I agree with you on this. Following such a diet and giving up coffee and cigs? Your body is going to go into shock! I would concentrate on the diet first and cut down on the coffee to 1-2 cups per day. I woudn't quit smoking just yet....between the coffee and no cigs, you may feel like you're going to die and we don't want that! When things...
  19. That's about how I feel regarding jury duty....
  20. From the little investigating I have done, that looks like the winner. It can weigh up to 20 pounds too...that's a lot of snackin'! Strawberry sent me her name and address today so how many would like to go with me and hand deliver to Dublin? I know a great restaurant that does a fabulous gluten-free lunch.....
  21. Hi Newbee....here's a little primer on re-testing.....The 3 tests a doctor should always do for repeat Celiac testing are the IgA/tTg and AGA IgA/ AGA IgG or the Demeadiated Gliadin Protein, which is the newer, more precise test replacing the AGA testing. The tTg is a measure of intestinal damage and higher numbers do not always mean more damage. Kind...
  22. I bet I could claim insanity from being cc'd with gluten. I would have to hope for a real jury of my peers....all Celiacs!
  23. If I were fabulously wealthy, I would hand deliver the package to her in Dublin..and then take her out for a good meal! However, depending on postal rates, it might be cheaper for me to hand deliver it! I heart you too!
  24. If we said we are going to send you a care package, then we will. I will inquire at the post office as to how much it costs to send packages and weight amounts. That's the key....how much it weighs. I have paid $15.00 to have tea sent form England and.......don't laugh.......I paid $40.00 to have a large shipment of cookies sent from Oz. Yeah, I'm crazy...
