  1. You really don't have to worry about kids regaining bone density once diagnosed. It just happens because they are young. It's when you get older that it's more of a struggle. Unless kids are complete couch potatoes, normal play and a good diet will correct any problems. You are fortunate that they have been diagnosed!
  2. Hi Dani....pears contain an awful lot of sugar and I sometimes get bloaty and gassy from eating them. I am a well healed Celiac also. I would say that for anyone new to the diet and healing, pears could cause a problem from that perspective. Sugar will cause massive bloating and gas in many people.
  3. I always use a good old fashioned salt water rinse and it works just as well as any of the nuclear stuff they try to ply you with. When will they learn? I think that those who hate dental work, and who doesn't, suffer from a case of the nerves after. That could upset your stomach. I get rigid in the chair sometimes also and that can mess you up...
  4. If you look at the MSDS sheet for both Peridex and Periguard products, they both contain almost the exact same ingredients. I could find nothing suspect in the ingredients listing, however, they are listed as a GI irritant and some people may experience stomach upset and diarrhea. I think it's another case of no gluten but bad for those with sensitive stomachs...
  5. Yes, having a double gene usually indicates that if you trigger for Celiac, then you will have a more severe case and be extremely sensitive to gluten. I tend to believe the research because I have a double DQ2 and nearly died from this disease. As they say, I got it bad! The fact that your daughter has slight elevation in tTg and isn't showing on...
  6. Of course topicals can cause a reaction....an allergic reaction. You would have to eat the Aveeno product or get some into your mouth and swallow for that to be classified as a Celiac reaction. (Intolerance) Are we clear now?
  7. IrishHeart is right....unless you make next to no money on a yearly basis, forget it. You would have to be living at poverty level to meet the minimum requirements in the US for using this as a valid tax deduction. And then you are guaranteed an audit...no thank you! I think unless you live on processed gluten-free food and make no money, it wouldn't work...
  8. No reputable dental office would ever have an employee eating cookies AFTER they out their dental gloves on! When I had a reaction to the gums in the dental composite, it was exactly like a gluten reaction. There are things you will react to and it will totally mimic a gluten reaction but isn't. I had one severe reaction in years of regular dental...

    ARCHIVED Cooking Oils

Sounds like you have found the problem and you are very smart for admitting so. It can seem daunting to do but your food issues will not put restrictions on anyone. If the other system is not working for you, then your family can eat gluten outside the home or take better steps to ensure you will not be cc'd. Don't worry so much about putting others out...
  10. If someone old you that, then yes, they were kidding you. Coffee is not a concern. I might check flavored coffee for barley but those are few and far between. Regular coffee is safe.
  11. These are delicious and safe! I am very sensitive and eat these regularly with no problems whatsoever. This is a standard snack for many Celiacs I know so go ahead and enjoy!

    ARCHIVED Cooking Oils

I have no problems with oils as long as I don't eat too much. I can't tolerate too much fat but that is not a gluten problem. I'm also sensitive to small amounts of gluten. How long have you been gluten-free? You just might need more healing time. Fats can be a problem even when you are healed. I generally use olive oil and canola and haven't...

    ARCHIVED Cocoa Powder

If you don't eat dairy or soy and then ingest something with these as a possible cc, then that could be your answer. I would hate anyone to think that Ghirardelli contains gluten, because it does not. Check this out: Open Original Shared Link You will have to check which ones are gluten-free but I have never seen cocoa powder that contains gluten.
  14. Nine months is not very long to be gluten-free to expect results with your thyroid. I have been gluten-free for 7 years and now my TPO is normal....under 40 for the lab I am using. It was, believe it or not, 1200 the year before I was diagnosed with Celiac. It came down steadily over the next 6 years as I stayed strictly gluten-free and by using a T3/T...
  15. I have had more dental work than most people, due to Celiac related teeth issues. I have done extensive research on dental products and have to say, I never found any that contained anything remotely related to gluten. Dental products do make use of gums and I had a severe reaction after having an impression done for a new tooth. It was the gum that got...
  16. It may not be doing anything to them. There is no proof that a labeled gluten-free product contains 20ppm on a routine basis. Most companies worth their salt and committed to providing gluten-free food to the Celiac population strive and test for much lower levels. If they did not, then many more people would not be healing on the gluten-free diet. There...

    ARCHIVED Cocoa Powder

Ghirardelli products are gluten free. I am very sensitive and use their products with no problems. Here is a listing of their products and the allergy information. Perhaps you have a problem with soy or dairy also? Open Original Shared Link
  18. I am glad you are still enjoying the care package, Strawberry, and are exercising restraint and not going overboard! I think what you have said here shows some good things in that you are not overly emotional about food. That is not a good thing because it's just not worth it to get upset over things you cannot eat.....it's not a good place to be...

  20. Well, if you think that's exciting, I got an e-mail from Genius bread in England, promoting their new products. They now have 2 kinds of pita bread and a version of Indian Naan bread. They had better offer these, via Glutino, to Canada and the US!
  21. I tend to lose weight on trips overseas also. I don't end up eating 3 squares a day because, after all, there is sightseeing to do! I have learned to bring a day pack and it's usually loaded with snacks. However, Europe is pretty gluten-free friendly and now they all seem to have gluten-free brownies in the coffee shops......there's a weight gainer for you...
  22. What she said! There are a few people on this forum who I feel are living a parallel life to mine! If you live in an area where there are many higher end restaurants and awareness, then you will do fine with it. I fully realize that not all parts of the country are like that. You really get to know whether a place will work or not but that takes...
  23. I have the same problem...it's tough for me to gain weight. Like you stated, if you eat a mostly whole foods diet, then gaining weight can be very hard. I would stick to a good portion of protein, with each meal, about 18-22 grams but try and eat carbs also because those are the weight gainers. Protein feeds muscle and the carbs are fast energy....but if...
  24. I agree! Far from being a biased answer, this IS what you said it is....sad. Anyone who thinks that introducing a parasite into your gut so you can eat a bagel again, has bigger problems than Celiac Disease. Why would anyone be so attached to a piece of bread?
