Hi June27......I am on my third ophthamologist and I like her very much but I ditched 2 prior ones who weren't listening to me. The first refused to let me try Restasis because she "knew" that it would not help me. She could tell by just looking at my eyes. What kind of BS is that? The Restasis has been the only thing that has helped improve my eyes...

ARCHIVED How Do U Handle Cooking For Your Family With Kids?
Gemini replied to AnnJay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is not cruel at all and more parents today should be doing just that. Let them go hungry if they refuse to eat what you cook for dinner....that won't last long. It amazes me that some people let their kids dictate what they will eat! -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Cornbread/ Cornmeal
Gemini replied to Jenni :)'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
[quote name=Jenni ' timestamp='1351184633' post='832412] I have been looking everywhere and cannot find a gluten-free cornmeal or cornbread mix. Does anyone know of one that is FOR SURE gluten-free? -
ARCHIVED CVS Dye-Free Allergy Gelcaps (Generic Benadryl)
Gemini replied to amahones's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Those should be fine BUT polyethylene glycol can be an irritant to the GI tract. It is sometimes used to clean people out as in colonoscopy prep use so maybe that is what irritated your gut. Sometimes there are other ingredients that can be an irritant to the GI tract. None of those ingredients should be gluten containing. Like others have posted, I usually... -

Not a problem! We all do that. -
ARCHIVED CVS Dye-Free Allergy Gelcaps (Generic Benadryl)

What does the ingredient listing say for the inactive ingredients? Those would be the ones of concern. -
ARCHIVED Why Is The Endomysial Antibody So Specific To Celiac?
Gemini replied to guest134's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is a very good question and I am sorry that I can't answer it! We have some lab experienced people here so maybe they can chime in. My other comment was that to try and not be so afraid of cancer. Many elevated lab tests and symptoms are caused by a number of things, as you can see, and cancer usually is low on the list of causes. The vast majority... -
Colleen...I am not an overly mushy person but I wish I could just descend and give you a big, fat hug!!!!!! My heart goes out to you, having to deal with this and now cancer? Are you continuing to not eat well because of depression that you may have from trying to deal with all this? I understand the eat=pain thing because I did the same thing for...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Processed Foods
Gemini replied to Persei V.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All of the gluten-free goodies I make from time to time, whether they be home made or a mix, do not have chemicals in them. If you read most of the gluten-free mix ingredient lists out there, they have minimal ingredients and are light years ahead of mainstream processed stuff...which are all chemicals. I don't know when all this fear of processed foods... -
This is funny...we are probably very close to each other! I wanted to add that some meds may interfere with AI testing. Steroids will or anything that suppresses immune response. Doctors will tell you that it doesn't but they are wrong. I know, I do not have MD after my name but if you are testing for an autoimmune disease and are taking meds that...

Good morning, fellow New Englander! I am outside of Boston. Your story is very similar to mine, only I have not had a corneal erosion. I have had pain in my eyes like you describe but I go to an ophthalmologist twice a year and she has never mentioned that. I actually have healthy eyes but they are extremely dry due to Sjogren's. I would suggest...

My goodness...you are fast! If you look at the report, the lab should give a reference range also, stating what the normal range for each test should be. Can you find and post those? Every lab has different ranges so these are important to know. Quickly looking at what you have posted, your TSH is on the higher side. Many docs will treat the...

Can you post the reference ranges for your thyroid testing from the lab report? Plus, all the thyroid tests they performed? That would be extremely helpful! Yes, this can all be so confusing but there are many thyroid veterans on here who can be of great help. I have been treating Hashi's for 20 years so know a bit about that. Gluten will definitely aggravate...

Ah...the ever questioning Tom!! Food allergies and intolerances can be figured a couple of different ways. You can either eat spartan and add foods back in or if you have been diagnosed with Celiac or another major allergy, cut that out and see how you feel. Many, many people do fine that way and discover they have no additional problems. That way...

OK....you should be tested for Sjogren's but keep in mind that the antibody testing can be like Celiac testing....you can have Sjogren's and test negative for it. How were you diagnosed with Celiac? Blood work or biopsy or both? Is your mouth dry also? Sjogren's usually involves both the eyes and the mouth, the salivary and lacrimal glands, which produce...

This is so ridiculous, it's scary to think he is practicing medicine. How did he diagnose you with Hashi's if your panel came back within range? That makes no sense to me. Two months is not nearly enough time to start to recover from Celiac and possible Hashi's...which will not get better on it's own. You need to be taking...

LadyCeliac.....I also have Hashi's and Celiac and the information your doctor gave you about cutting so many foods out because of your thyroid issues is horse-pucky! Sorry to say so but he is starving you to death for no good reason. If you have been diagnosed with Hashi's, it is because of the Celiac and not what you eating, as far as the other foods are...

I am sorry you are having a migraine, Roda! It probably is stress related and who can blame you for that. You will be fine afterwards but it is stressful before anyone has surgery....the mind is too active. Pretty soon the GB problems will be gone...one less thing to worry about. I will be thinking of you on the 24th and wish you a speedy recovery! Let...

I have Sjogren's Syndrome and have for years. I will write more later and can give you some information on testing and treatment but it is late and I have to get to bed. I'll post on Monday, during the day.

ARCHIVED Eye Doctor Vistit?
Gemini replied to jasmine4063's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
What she said! I have Sjogren's Syndrome and get my eyes dilated once a year. Sjogren's makes you extremely light sensitive to begin with. I have to book my appointments late afternoon in the Fall, when it's dark by the time I get out of the docs or I would NEVER be able to drive home. There is definitley no gluten at all in the dilating drops. -
ARCHIVED 15 Months Gluten Free And Still Testing Positive For The Disease
Gemini replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That 'splains it, Lucy!!!!! Hashi's will keep tTg higher and probably won't come down further until you get that under control. This is what happened to me also. The gluten-free diet will help with that but it can take awhile so be patient. I would suggest they run the other tests I suggested to make sure you are not ingesting gluten. Those should... -
ARCHIVED Adrenal Fatigue & Pancreas Mri
Gemini replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The problem with doing blood cortisol testing is that they do one blood draw only. How is that supposed to check the rhythm of cortisol over an almost 24 hour period? Well.....it's not. They would have to do 4 blood draws at the correct times and they don't believe in that so their method of testing is useless, unless you have Addisons Disease and your cortisol... -
ARCHIVED Myths About Gluten In Everyday Non Edible Objects?
Gemini replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Super Sensitive People
The gluten molecule is too large to pass through the skin barrier and that is scientific fact. If things passed that easily through the skin, none of us would live to see 50. The skin is the protective barrier against the nasties in the world. I think many people haven't learned enough about anatomy and physiology to understand this but that's understandable... -
You just make me laugh, Mr. Happy! I am the same way...I could not tolerate alcohol at all pre-diagnosis but now that I have healed nicely, I can drink my wine and handle it just fine. I still don't drink a lot because I am a lightweight but I do enjoy a glass or two, especially while cooking! Makes it all the more fun! Nothing wrong with drinking...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Dining At Chinese Restaurants
Gemini replied to cdaviles's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The problem with Chinese food is you have to have them use a dedicated wok to cook your food in or you risk getting sick from cc. I only know of a couple of Chinese restaurants that boast a dedicated wok.....that is not the norm. It is not all about finding out what is gluten-free...you have to be concerned about what they cook it in. I gave up on Chinese...
