  1. I made sugar cookies for DD last week because she was going to her first Christmas party with her sisters. They serve sugar cookies there and I didn't want her to miss out on anything. I used Cherrybrook Kitchen's gluten free sugar cookie mix. They turned out great! In fact, she only ate 1 of the 2 I made so I had the other-yummo! I frosted it with...
  2. DD just finished her 2nd round of amoxicillan since going gluten free earlier this year. Both times I had the pharmacist verify the ingredients. They called the company since different brands can be made differently, and I was told they are gluten free. She didn't appear to have a problem with it so it looks like the "pink stuff" liquid is okay.
  3. My doc also told me gluten doesn't pass through breastmilk, but she was 10 times better 2 days after I joined her on the gluten free diet! I think there may be some controversy in the medical community about what proteins and allergens do or don't get transferred to baby, but I can tell you without a doubt my DD improved greatly when I cut out gluten.
  4. I can attest from my own daughter's reactions that gluten does, indeed, pass through breastmilk. She did not start thriving until I went gluten free myself. She's doing well now at one and I weened her completely about 3 weeks ago.
  5. Thanks so much! I use bacon in green beans and she hadn't reacted so far, but I was afraid I was missing something. I'm guessing she would have "told" me if there had been gluten in it.
  6. I've heard people say they stay away from bacon, but I have carefully checked the label of every brand that has been on sale and can't find anything with gluten. Am I missing something or just getting lucky? I've bought 2 store brands and Oscar Mayer so far. There doesn't appear to be any gluten ingredients in bacon. Are there some brands that are different...
  7. Well, it seemed to go well at Logan's Roadhouse. DD's reaction time is almost exactly 24 hours and she has been fine all day. She had a plain sweet potato and unseasoned veggies, which was simply broccoli this time of year (surprised it didn't include any winter squash though). Thanks for the feedback! I decided to let her have a go at it. Even though...
  8. I always tell them that my daughter is very allergic-they understand that much better than celiac. Also, if you just say gluten free some think it is a fad or low-carb diet. I tell them up front "my daughter is allergic to gluten, which is in wheat, barley, rye and malt." That way there is no confusion. I ask if they have a gluten free menu or a list...
  9. Our "I don't wanna cook tonight" easy dinners pre-diagnosis were hamburger helper (yuck, I know, but so easy!) or Pillsbury roll wraps and casseroles. Recently, my mom gave me a pressure cooker. It is so simple to use and cooks things super fast. I can now do a full, tasty, real meal in the time it took to throw together the gluten filled crap. I have...
  10. I was trying to find some mainstream cereals that DD could eat, but most things had "malt flavoring" as an ingredient. I know barley malt is a definite no, but I didn't know if all malt was barley or if there are safe malt flavorings.

    ARCHIVED Wendy's

According to Wendy's website the fries do not actually contain gluten, but are fried in the same oil as chicken nuggets at some locations. I checked with mine and they have a dedicated fryer for french fries. We tried them out-DD's first ever french fry-and she did not get sick! This is the kid who was very sick for 2 days after eating a baby goldfish...
  12. DD has her reaction 24-36 hours later. My uncle's reactions can sometimes take up to 3 days. I think it's what makes it so hard to figure out at first.
  13. DH's holiday party is this weekend. The girls always spend the evening with the grandparents. They go to dinner and then to Chuck E Cheese's to play (we don't eat there!). I'm concerned enough about the little one even being at CEC without my supervision, but I'm also wondering if she'll be able to eat dinner. My mom has already told me they are going...
  14. Awesome! I'm very surprised I didn't hear about this. My in-laws live in Anderson and I'm pretty sure they both get the paper.
  15. I noticed a difference in DD's disposition and energy levels within 2 days! I thought I was just seeing things until we weighed her at day 5 and found she had already gained 5 ounces after losing 2 ounces the month before. She's a completely different and very happy baby now! When I get sad about what she may be missing out on as she's older (like pizza...
  16. Waving hello from North Indy! I didn't realize there were so many Hoosiers around here. The gluten free pitch-in sounds heavenly! I'm struggling so much with our 2 T-Day pitch-ins to be sure there is enough for my little one to eat.
  17. Potato chips a lot- I know, not too healthy, but sometimes you just gotta! I have really enjoyed peanut butter on rice cakes lately. Rice cakes also come in a variety of small, snack flavors. Other snacks: fresh fruit, popcorn and raisins.
  18. I also usually use leftovers. I plan extra for dinner and reheat for lunch. You can also do that with "investment cooking" in mind-cook a lot of one thing and make it something different the next day. i.e. Fix a whole chicken dinner one night, then make chicken salad for lunch. Roast beef for dinner, beef stew for lunch. I also missed something so simple...
  19. DD has been gluten free for almost 3 months. She had trouble with milk at first, but is drinking that now. She also has trouble with chicken & beef as well as corn, though she can handle corn products (i.e. cornmeal, cornstarch and xanthum gum). Her doctor said that it should get better as her body adjusts. The foods she has issues with are all...
  20. Count me in as a shape-buyer! We have had the spirals in a chicken noodle dinner and shells in mac & cheese, but we're new at this so we haven't tried a lot.
  21. Thanks so much! Meijer only had Wyler and one other brand-both of which contained wheat. I'll have to look around for some of the ones mentioned.
  22. I found a recipe for gluten free cream soup replacements, but it calls for boullion and all the stuff my regular store had listed wheat ingredients. Is there a mainstream brand that is gluten free or should I just head to the organic store?
  23. You don't have to stuff a bird for it turn out well. In fact, stuffing can often dry out the meat as it absorbs the broth so quickly. My sister swears by an orange in the cavity. She just peels it and sticks it inside and says her turkey is the best she's ever tasted. She's been doing this for the last 3 years, though she is a college student and her...
  24. Breakfast: Envirokidz Gorilla Munch cereal, sliced banana, scrambled eggs Lunch: Egg salad on rice crackers (DD also can't tolerate meat so we have to use a lot of eggs for protein), Birdseye Steamfresh vegetables, cheese cubes Snack: apple sauce, Midel animal cookies Dinner: Pot roast (coat meat with rice flour, place in baking dish, add cut up...
  25. We skipped Enterolab because I didn't really have the funds for a non-insurance paid test. DD tested negative for celiac, but after reading up on it in the first couple days after the test (before the results came in) DH and I were absolutely convinced that was her problem-she fits the profile with nearly every known celiac symptom. We put her on the gluten...
