So the trip coordinator e-mailed him back (we have to deal with her because she controls the food budget, we can't afford not to deal with her!). She said that we could review the buffet dinner and if nothing was acceptable (duh it won't be) she can ensure the kitchen staff know to make a separate meal and bring it to the banquet hall (where we'll all be...

Thanks, I will double check with the restraunt as the trip gets closer. They did say that they handle special diets (specifically gluten-free stuff) regularly. So that helps. DH informed his trip coordinator of our dietary requirements via e-mail yesterday and her response was "well all breakfasts and 3 dinners will be buffets, so you will just have...

So my husband WON a trip to Maui (for the both of us) through his work!! We're going with a bunch of other people and we'll be staying at the Sheraton resort/hotel for 5 days. His work is clueless when it comes to dietary restrictions. But I found the phone # and called this morning and they said they had experience with gluten-free meals before. Just...

Curses only work if YOU put your faith in them (every religion says so, DH did major research about them a few years ago). So first, STOP that!! Second, sageing is good, Third, do some good in the world. Volunteer or something. And remember, if the bad in the our lives didn't exist, how could we recognize the good? Good luck. *hugs* I hope your...

You will enjoy your wedding big or small. DH and I were BROKE when we got married (as in living on $1,000/month and having $10,000 in useless medical debt and $8,000 in DH's ex's credit card debt). We couldn't afford a big wedding!! I got my dress at a thrift store ($15), DH wore a kilt he already had, we had some friends show up at a local park...

I saw the coolest thing in my local walmart today..... DEBOLIS pasta!! Yay! gluten-free pasta in walmart!! I don't normally shop there, but awesome to know anyway!

ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Celiac In Babies? Experiences?
Adelle replied to oscarsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My husband projectile vomited as an infant. Breast milk, formula, everything. He was finally able to have goat milk. After the goat milk he grew normally but continued to have symptoms until I was DXed and we both went gluten-free. Within a few days he felt better and his symptoms dissapeared!! I don't care what anyone says IMHO gluten goes thru breastmilk... -
ARCHIVED Silly Milestone! My Daughter Felt Full!
Adelle replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
K we've been gluten-free for over a year now, but when we first went gluten-free, I got a ton better super fast. But one of my problems was that I don't have a sense of hunger (hadn't for years). And hence I forget to eat, and then I gain weight (at one point I gained 80 lbs in 1 year, by eating under 1,000 cals/day). So about a week after I went gluten... -
ARCHIVED Help, Pregnant, Possible Celiac, Alone & Scared
Adelle replied to AMC-1978's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the gluten-free club!!! Most docs are clueless when it comes to celiac. Ignore her. YOU know what's best!! Congrats on your pregnancy! -
ARCHIVED Personality Disorder
Adelle replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was DX'ed Borderline about 3 years ago now. I agree with all of the books that were listed, but also, look into Dialectic Behavorial Therapy. That program saved my LIFE!!! What some people don't understand is that it isn't about REFUSAL to handle stuff "correctly", but about not knowing how!! I NEVER learned how do function w/o cutting (I started when... -
Keep pushing!! It seems like everyone wants you just to forget it happened. You won't. Trust me. I've been there. Talk to someone ELSE at the DC police. Something. If you let this guy off the hook, he'll move onto someone else. He won't stop (especialy if he's not punished). You are such a strong woman. You rock!! Sorry he did this to you (it didn...

ARCHIVED The Truth About The Ingredients In Pet Food
Adelle replied to John B. Symes, D.V.M.'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hey Dogtor J! I'm hoping I can ask a quick question? DH and I REALLY want to get an English Mastiff. We're moving into a house in November, we've contacted a local rescue (we'll be adopting from them). What exact food do you reccomed we feed?? I'd prefer to buy from an actual store, but that may be impossible. Is there a link to your website somewhere... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like The Forrest Gump Of Chicken
Adelle replied to amberleigh's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love chicken!! Ok our salsa chicken is too easy Dump salsa over chicken boobies and bake I like it with rice and steamed broccoli. salsa all around! Baked chicken breast, cooled, tossed in salad (yum!). Feta cheese chicken: Put a pile of spinach in a glass dish (I suppose you could use other kinds, I just always use glass), sprinkle with feta... -

ARCHIVED I Live In Oregon
Adelle replied to Nathan's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I LOVE that bakery!! We eat bread from there nearly every day. The whole grain is my favorite. I have had DREAMS about those cinnamon rolls!! Oh man!! You can also do special orders which (if it's a drive for you) I reccomend because they sell out FAST sometimes. I ordered bread, ladyfingers, cupcakes, brownies, and pizzacrusts for my birthday, I almost... -

I like in Salem! I don't have any kids, but I know there is a Salem ROCK (Raising Our Celiac Kids) group. Also, have you been to "living Earth bakery" in corvallis? It's a completely gluten-free bakery, they make the BST gluten-free bread!! Anyway, Email me if I can help!! -
ARCHIVED What Do I Thow Out, What Do I Do, Will I Get Better?
Adelle replied to F.deSales's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am really anti eating out, but if you really want to you could call the restraunt ahead of time and see if they have any bottled/canned drinks. That way there isn't any CC risk at all. If they just plop the steak on the same grill they use for pancakes, salisbury steak, or the like THAT'S why u got sick. You could also call the manager and see if they... -
ARCHIVED What Do I Thow Out, What Do I Do, Will I Get Better?
Adelle replied to F.deSales's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes it gets easier. But it takes adjustment!! I didn't buy ALL new pans, I replaced anything scratched or really old. And I replaced my utensils. And almost all of my cooking "gear". I also made my house entirely gluten-free. I knew if I didn't I'd cheat. Knowing what I know now about CC, I'm sure I'd have never healed. Plus, you deserve the right... -
ARCHIVED Best And Worst Drs Opinions/advice
Adelle replied to Meemsy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Smartest thing a doc ever said to me was, "well, you know your body better than I ever could" needless to say, I KEPT that one!! Worst thing was "at 17 (18, 19, 20, 21) what could you have to be so stressed about?" 1st they assumed it was stress, then they assume that all of my symptoms (weight gain, narcolepsy, numbness/pain in my feet, breathing problems... -

ARCHIVED "younger" People And Celiac
Adelle replied to Teacher1958's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It was INSANELY hard for me. Adjusting to the diet was a breeze, but actually getting a DX was the hardest part. From ages 16-21 (7 years total) I saw 12 doctors. The ONLY testing I was able to get done was basic bloodwork. I was always severly anemic (eat more red meat, less ramen). I was "too young" to really know what was "wrong" with my OWN body... -
ARCHIVED Home Ec/cooking In School
Adelle replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It seems like she should be able to get out of that class all together. Or at least all days that involve food. It's a medical condition, well documented and all. So it seems sort of rediculous that'd she'd have to learn how to cook with food she will never touch or eat. -
ARCHIVED Early Introduction To Gluten ! !
Adelle replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
All of the conflicting evidence makes it so confusing!! We don't have any kids (yet), but when we do, we'll be BFing for as long as we can. We won't be introducing gluten AT ALL. If they choose to eat gluten as a teenager, I won't stop them. See, DH and I BOTH have it (and we both have extensive family histories of celiac disease as well). His first... -
ARCHIVED So What's In Your 72-hour Kit?
Adelle replied to cruelshoes's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also have toiletries as part of my first aid kit. we have a camping stove, with extra propane cartrages, but that isn't IN the pack itself. We don't pack pet food as the only pets we have are 2 guinea pigs. IF they survived any initial disaster, their cages would break and they'd be long gone. They also HATE being picked up, so how would we transport... -
ARCHIVED So What's In Your 72-hour Kit?
Adelle replied to cruelshoes's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My 72 hour kit is fairly extensive. DH and I each have a backpack in the spare bedroom (they are pretty easy to get to). Each contains 1 gal water, spare sweats, boots, socks, gloves, undies, sweater, rain slicker, space blanket, duct tape, plastic garbage bag (I know how to make a temp shelter from those), flint firestarter (hey you never know), some cash...
