  1. If I were you, I'd wait till ur kid is healthy before giving them vaccines. And do it slowly. It scares me that ur doc would play "catchup" with vaccines!! One at a time!! Good for you for postponing. The last thing you need is a negative vax reaction on top of everything!
  2. No you aren't a bad mom. I'm 23 and I'm not having any retesting. I had bloodwork done again like 3 months ago. I'm not ingesting gluten anymore (duh!). It didn't tell me anything I didn't know!! If your son is improving, stick to the diet, and let him have some time w/o pokies. If you do decide to retest, that's fine. But ur not a bad mom either way...
  3. I know DH's 1st symptoms were from 1 day old. He would violently vomit after breastmilk, then several types of formula. Finally he was just fed goats milk. His mom never bothered to figure out what's wrong. He continued to vomit occasionally and have SEVERE stomach pains, diarrea, and other gross stuff. Finally when I went gluten-free I made him (hey...
  4. I'm so glad Alex is feelin a little better. And she is so lucky to have ya'll to stand up for her!! My sis and mom (the only fam I've ever had) haven't spoken to me in around 6 weeks. I'm pretty much better, but sometimes my nerve pains flare up. My sis decided I would babysit for free 3+ days/ week. She would just drop Katie off whenever. When DH...
  5. I do my regular shopping at freddies. But the amy's stuff is super expensive!! Portland is 90 min away. I refuse to drive 90 min for food!! Salem has Lifesource, it's a little store, but they have some specialty gluten-free stuff. Freddies has a ton of stuff, but $1.50 for gluten-free mac n cheese, you can't beat that!! Oh and the woman who owns...
  6. Yay! I hope you find them. My freezer is bursting at the seams!! I usually don't eat prepackaged food. But this is a good back-up. Mmm yum. I haven't had mac n cheese for 10 months. Until today. Amazing. Yay!
  7. I was strolling the grocery outlet (the one with the rainbow) while on vacation at the beach yesterday. I passed the freezer section, they have amy's dinners!! Rice lasagna!! then today, out of curiosity I went to the one in Salem, they have them too!! This one also had mac n cheese and penne bowls. All gluten-free!! And the best part? They were between...
  8. I live in Salem, so I don't really get up to Portland very often, but last time I did, I went to "oliver's" which used to be "pasta rico's" or something. They have the BEST pizza ever!!! I felt like I was cheating!! Delish!! Try it!!
  9. Ohhh I'm so glad you all figured this out!! I've been thinkin abt u and Alex. Hoping that she gets better! Yay!
  10. Everything ya'll mentioned PLUS a magical gluten sensor. If anyone has 1 speck of gluten on them an alarm would go off preventing them from having contact with me. Maybe that should go at the front door..... Yes. Oh and a levatation machine. I'm barely 5'4" so I can't reach hardly any upper cabinets!! It'd be lovely to use them! DH and i live in an...
  11. That's such a hard decision. I've always wanted a family young (DH and I TTC now and I'm 22). I would give up ANYTHING for a little one. But if you REALLY want to try this career..... Did you ever think of having kids sooner then switching careers?? Or you could try to find out how the corrections field handles pregnancies and stuff? Do they have policies...
  12. Dunno if this is in the right section... Feel free to move it. Pre-diagnosis, I went through a lot. There was a period of time where I lived in my car and had $100/month in food stamps. I ate cup O noodles (.79 each) 2-3 times a day. Maybe a can of beans or corn occasionally. If I HAD known about celiac disease then, what would I have done???? Free...
  13. Hello! I would say that if you are close to a DX, then go for it. But if they won't give it to you, TRY the gluten-free diet. It's a VALID diagnostic tool!! And if your child gets well on the diet, then who the heck is a doctor to tell you that HE knows your child better than YOU!!! My doc said I "didn't need to go gluten free" but I feel SO much better...
  14. And don't forget, you can always change their name!! I was born amber adelle, but never once did I answer to amber. It just never fit. I went by adelle until I was 9 and my mom officially changed it. I LOVE my name. My BFF's dh never went by his given name, always answered to his dad's name. They changed it when he was like 3 yo. I brought up Gunther to...
  15. I happen to looove unique names. I've only met 1 other Adelle in my life (substitute teacher). I love my name. Ryan (my hubby) always had a billion other Ryan's in class etc. He hated it!! Gunther is such a cute name! And abt julia roberts' kid... Ryan is so attached to the name Phinneaus, he's trying to persuade me to name our 1st boy that! Pick...
  16. Omg I'm the same way!! Pre-gluten-free I was actually DX'd bipolar AND borderline personality disorder. I went thru an intensive treatment program (that T was the 1st to believe that there was something physical wrong!). Now that I'm gluten-free I'm like the chillest person ever. It's a fascinating difference. One of my first symptoms of a glutening is...
  17. How To Shower Like a Woman
  18. Oh, my neice is 4 years old. She won't eat gluten-free bread, or corn tortillas.... She LOVED this gluten-free green pasta, but they changed the ingredients! Arg. She also hates yogurt. She will actually just NOT eat if there's nothing she likes. I might take her to lifesource (they have a huge gluten-free section) and let her pick stuff out. And she loves...
  19. So as of next month, my sis will be in school 3 days a week (I'm so proud of her!) during the day rather than in the evenings. I'm gonna be watching my neice katie. Right now, we watch her once or twice a month, and usually she'll only eat hotdogs (sans bun with ketchup) and popcorn. That's fine for an evening snack monthly, but not 3 full days a week!...
  20. So much has changed for us! We wanted to take it a little slower, move, settle in, then get a newer car, etc. But nooooo, our car has to break as we're moving. Just a few small wrenches in our plans. We had HUGE problems with our washer and dryer (well actually the installation people just DIDN'T install it properly) so I ended up doing it myself. Anyway...
  21. I just got my new(to me anyway) car!! It's the first car I've ever had to make payments on. So it's exciting and nervewracking all at the same time. It's a 2004 ford focus. I had to get an antenna ball today cause I kept "losing" my car. Today at wal-mart there were 4 (the same color) in the parking lot! We're so happy to have a car that we're not CONSTANTLY...
  22. Hello! And welcome. Others have probably suggested this (haven't read everyone's posts yet, brain foggy this am) but try the gluten-free diet!! My doc was also hesitant to test me (for the same reasons you said, actually). I went gluten-free anyway (he tested me later and I was still "borderline +". But who cares? On the diet (6mo's now yay!) I feel...
  23. I actually would fall asleep. Everywhere, anytime. During "V for vendetta" in the theatre, also "Saw". Even the doctors office. I was medicated for narcolepsy (which made everything worse as I don't have narcolepsy) after my doc had to wake me during our visits. My iron levels were awful, but now (7 mo's gluten-free!) my levels are all normal. And I...
  24. So after much stress )and help from friends) we're in our new apartment!! We have plenty of unpacking to do, but that can wait. My mom loaned me her little pickup (which helped soooo much), and today as I was picking up my car, it died. Next monday I'm going car shopping anyway (we knew it was on it's last legs, we just wanted to get thru the move first...
  25. Congrats!!
