  1. I need to know if or what brands of food colorings are safe. My dd's teacher needs to know. I looked at the Wal Mart brand and Adams Extract brands, and neither were labeled gluten-free (both companies label gluten-free products). So I was left w/ McCormicks, but it has the same ingredients. I didn't check Wiltons. So what kind is safe?? I don't know when...
  2. Yep, that is the list I gave her. I just modified it. But it has the same info on it. I gave her about 4 different papers of info, plus the letter to the parents. pktds
  3. I met with dd#2's teacher last night at our "meet the teacher" night, and I gave her my papers with my dd's restrictions and how she needed to be taken care of at school to keep her healthy. I even included a letter that I wanted to share with all the parents. Below is an email she sent to me today!! She seems like she will be a GREAT teacher this year for...
  4. I am wearing green today!! I LOVE so many of Bette Hagman's recipes and I couldn't resist showing my support for all she did for us! So where can I get one of these bracelets?? I missed something! ptkds
  5. I have the "Incredible, Edible Gluten-Free Foods for Kids" by Carol Fenster. I got it on amazon .com I LOVE it! It has lots of great kid-friendly meals. And I LOVE the bread recipe for whtie bread. I also use lots of recipes from here or recipezaar.com. ptkds
  6. I was reading the Pam spray label again, and I got to wondering about the grain alcohol. Is it safe?? I wound up getting the Mazola cooking spray that was more "natural" and pure. Thanks! ptkds

Looks like we have the same bday!!! Happy bday to you! ptkds
  8. I take B6 2 times a day. My urologist put me on it to help me kidneys. I just take the Sun Valley brand or whatever it is at Walmart. They are tiny pills. They have a little taste to them, but if you swallow them quick, you can't even taste it. ptkds
  9. I have a kitchen aid 6.0 pro. I LOVE it. It is strong enough to handle ANY dough. I would love to have an extra bowl, too. It is a 6 qt. I have the grain mill attachment, but I like buying the rice flour from asian stores. It is alot finer and easier. But I don't have any other accesories other than the splatter shield thing. I would make huge messes w/out...
  10. I have had 4 kids before being diagnosed. I may have had active celiac disease w/ all 4, but I am not sure. Definetly the last 3. My biggest baby was 7 lbs 2 oz, and I am overweight. (which is weird because normally if a woman is overweight, she has a bigger baby; at least according to the "experts") I had lots of early contractions, and I was always VERY...
  11. IMO, you should ask for a full blood panel to check all her levels (iron, thyroid, IGA, etc) But be prepared for a negative Celiac test since your dd has been gluten free. And dont' let your dr talk you out of putting her back on the food that you have found to make her sick. Just say that you did an elimination diet and have found what makes her sick, and...
  12. Wendy's is good. They have a gluten-free menu on their website. Depending on where you live, Dairy Queen is great. They don't have a gluten-free menu for their regular food on the website, but I get the grande nachos (meat nachos) or the tacos and I don't usually have a problem. Also, grilled chicken patties are usualy safe. Chick-fil-a is a good place. We...
  13. Hi, I live about 2 minutes away from the Blue Bell creamery. I eat the vanilla all the time w/out a problem. You may be having a dairy issue on top of Celiac disease (VERY common, and you may get over it after your intestines heal). I have a list of flavors from my local support group of safe Blue Bell ice creams: Banana Split, Butter Pecan, Strawberry...
  14. Hey everyone. The last 2 mornings, I have been waking up with VERY stiff fingers, especially in my left hand. And my fingers are swollen and I can't get my rings off. My fingers are very stiff in the joints closest to my hand. The last 2 nights, I have been taking ibuprofen for my feet (I have plantar fasciitis), but ibuprofen has never caused a problem like...
  15. Ok, so I have been gluten-free for months. But lately I have been getting diarrhea but I don't know what from. I am certain it is not from gluten, but i don't know what is causing it. I know I should do an elimination diet, but I don't even know where to begin, and I can't imagine cutting out even more food from my diet. I am so scared it is corn or something...
  16. I thought this web site may be somewhat helpfu:l Open Original Shared Link. I also bought one of my dd's a med ID bracelet that states she is allergic to wheat, barley, rye, and oats. I'm lucky enough that the nursery in our church is small. There are only 2-3 kids in there. They just bring fresh fruit and cheese and stuff like that for all the kids. Now...
  17. THis recipe is from the Food Philosophers website. It is EXCELLENT and very moist. Tastes like a regular cake! My own notes are just after the recipe! ptkds ******************* Food Philosopher's Gluten-Free WHITE CAKE Serves 12 Makes two 8" or 9" rounds 4 eggs, separated 1 1/2 cups sugar plus
  18. Yep, that's the recipe I used. But insead of rolling it up in foil like the recipe says, I put the dough in a cookie press. My original plan was to press the cookies out, but the dough it too thick for that. So instead, I put the press in the refrigerator for a while, and then I pressed out a little bit at a time and cut off a slice. You just have to make...
  19. I used the recipe from www.recipezaar.com for gluten free Oreo cookies. They are GREAT!! Just wanted to share with those that are looking for oreo cookies! ptkds
  20. Since my youngest dd was diagnosed w/ celiac disease, dh and I have been thinking alot about this. What are the odds that 3 of our 4 kids has celiac disease? I read that it was like a 10% chance of 1 child having it, so how did 3 of my kids get it, and at such an early age?? My dh was tested, but it was negative. Although sometimes I wonder if the tests were...
  21. It sounds to me like you should definetly be on a gluten free diet. If you have DH, then you definetly have Celiac disease, but you don't have to have DH to have Celiac disease or Gluten intolerance (2 different things). Gluten intolerance won't show up on a blood test, and occaisonally Celiac disease won't show up on blood work. You could always try...
  22. I noticed that you said your dd eats McDonalds fries. Those fries have gluten in them according to some ppl. So she may need to lay off of them and see if that helps. Good luck and keep us updated!! ptkds
  23. I agree w/ everyone else. When my toddler was diagnosed, I had my older 2 dd's tested. I was convinced that my oldest dd had Celiac and that DD#2 didn't, but it was the other way around. DD#1 was fine, DD#2 tested positive. But you may want to wait a while to test the 11 mo, and you and dh need to be tested. I tested positive after my dd's diagnosis. ptkds
  24. I totally feel for you. I know how hard this diet is, and to also give up milk? I don't know if I could do that. But I just wanted to share w/ you my experience. When I was only 23, I had pre-cancerous polyps removed from my colon. I hate to think of what would have happened if I had never had that test done. I would probably have cancer by now, and it could...
  25. I know EXACTLY how you feel. My dd is 6 yrs old, and she has the same symptoms as your dd. She was crying last night because she is the only one in her school that has Celiac disease. I reminded her that there were other kids that have other problems, even though it wasnt Celiac disease. She had a classmate that had a nut allergy. But since I also have Celiac...
