ARCHIVED ?'s About Meds!
ptkds posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I take Allopurinol daily, and my dd takes Xopenex for her asthma. I asked if they were gluten-free at the pharmacy today and they assured me they were. But only 1 brand of Allopurinol (not the one I take) was on the GlutenFreeDrugs website. So is this website complete, or is there a better place to check out the meds? My dd's asthma med wasn't listed... -
ARCHIVED My Sister Foud Someone Who Claims. . .
ptkds posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My sister went to some quack chiropractor and talked to him about me and my family having celiac disease. This guy claimed he could cure allergies, including celiac. From all that I have read, it can't be cured and it isn't even an allergy! I pointed that out to her, but I don't think she believed me. So is finding ppl like this common?? I am just wondering... -

ARCHIVED When To Test Children/babies For Celiac?
ptkds replied to maddycat's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am not too sure about the age because I also have an 8 month old, and I havn't really started her on solids yet because she has other allergies as well. But I did want to let you know that when my toddler was 15 months old, we tested her and she was positive. So it isn't unheard of to have a positive test at this young of an age. My toddler was eating wheat... -
ARCHIVED Better Bread
ptkds replied to pinktulip's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am also fairly new to the diet, but from all that I have read, you will have to make bread if you want a better taste. I have only tried 2 recipes from scratch and 1 mix. I didn't like the mix, and the last recipe I tried turned out pretty good. I can give you the recipe if you want it! ptkds -
ARCHIVED Many Doctors Are Not Supportive Regarding Celiac
ptkds replied to BamBam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I didn't read alot of the posts, but I do have to disagree that dr's won't diagnose celiac disease because of money. When I went to my family dr and asked him to test me, he agreed and didn't argue or try to "reason" with me even though I am overweight. When I asked my dd's pedi to test her even though her symptoms are very minor, she totally agreed w/... -
ARCHIVED I Made Pancakes And They Were Wonderful!
ptkds posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Most of the gluten-free stuff I have made has been kind of "blah", but this morning I made gluten-free pancakes and they were out of this world!! All my dd's LOVED them and stuffed themselves!! I think I got the recipe off of here somewhere, so THANKS!!!!! ptkds -
Two days ago, the dr's office told me that my dd#2 has celiac disease. Then today the dr calls me and tells me that they got more results in and she is negative, although some other number was high. He said her IgA was fine. So I asked him about IgA deficiency and he said it could be a possiblilty but they would have to do another test on both dd's to check...

I am going through my kitchen trying to get rid of everything that will contaminate me and my dd's. I have a BUNCH of plastic bowls and containers. Do I have to get rid of those?? Even if they don't have scratches?? I have already gotten rid of my plastic spatulas, plastic and wood cutting boards, and I will be gettting rid of my old scratched teflon pans...

ARCHIVED Another Bread Question!
ptkds replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just use a normal size loaf pan.It is wide enough, just too short. I want it to be taller so it seems more "normal". ptkds -
We finally got the results back today on my 2 older dd's and my dh. My dd#2 tested positive, but dh and dd#1 were negative. I was so sure that dd#1 would be positive because she has so many celiac symptoms. And dd#2 really doesnt have any symptoms. We are also thinking that our 8 m old dd has it, although she is too young to be tested because she doesn't...

ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test, Why Biopsy?
ptkds replied to eileen.c's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 18 m old dd tested positive w/ blood work only. I decided not to put her through the biopsy after I tested positive through blood work. Now my dd#2 has also tested positive through blood work. I feel that the blood results must be accurate for us since there are 3 positives in our family. But others may have a better answer for you. I know that my... -
Ok, so I think I found a pretty good bread recipe, but the problem is that it is so little! The bread slices are about half as tall as normal bread. Is there a way to make bread that is taller? I want it to look more normal so a slice of cheese or whatever will actually fit on it! I could also use some different recipes. I am just trying out different ones...

I was coming to this board to say the exact same things! I am really feeling depressed and frustrated today. I just got back from the grocery store and it made me so sad to see all of my favorite foods that I can no longer have. I have to make this HUGE lifestyle change that I don't want to make. I have lost all the conveniences of food. I have 4 kids, so...

ARCHIVED Infant Formula Questions?
ptkds replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One dr told me that goats milk has the same milk protein that is found in cows milk and soy. That protein is what my dd has a problem with, so she would not have been able to handle goats milk. There is another formula called Neocate. It is REALLY hard to find and pretty pricey. But a pharmacy should be able to get it for you. And insurance may even pay for... -
ARCHIVED Infant Formula Questions?
ptkds replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just wanted to point out the the powder Alimentum does have corn, but the ready-to-feed doesn't. Most ppl don't realize this. I didn't until a nutritionist pointed me out to me when my dd was still having problems on the powder. We only give her the RTF, and she does much better. I hope he gets better soon! ptkds -
ARCHIVED Your Personal Celiac/gluten Intolerance Story
ptkds replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I am not sure of when I really started getting sick. I believe it was shortly afte my 2nd dd was born 6 yrs ago. I went to my OB for my yearly check up and I told him I seemed to have lots of diarrhea. So he referred me to a GI. He ran blood tests and decided to do a colonoscopy. He found pre-cancerous polyps in my colon, but nothing else showed up... -
ARCHIVED Recent Diagonosed & Food Question-popcorn?
ptkds replied to cs789's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think you have to really worry about that. The gluten is what causes the damage, so no gluten means he should heal. I haven't heard anything about feeding them things while they are healing. But I could be wrong! We are new to this too. My dd has only been gluten-free for a few days. I haven't been able to go gluten-free yet, but I am working on it... -

My dh went to get dd up from her nap while I was busy doing something else. I walk into the living room and he had a bowl of goldfish that he was sharing with our dd! She has been gluten-free for a few days! I can't believe he did that! He says he thought they were gluten-free. I picked up the box and the VERY 1ST ingredient is flour! I hope one day he...

ARCHIVED Are Bandaids gluten-free?
ptkds posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was at the store this morning, and I suddenly thought about gluten in bandaids. Is there gluten in them? If so, are there gluten-free brands? With 4 kids, I need to know what is gluten-free. Thanks, ptkds -
I LOVE Google Earth!! It is really neat. In NY, you can even see people! Some places don't come in clear because they only take good pics of big citys. But now Mapquest has real pics of places, and they are better than Google earth sometimes! I actually found my house on Mapquest and it was a blur on Google Earth. And the pic of our old home is still on there...
