    ARCHIVED IHOP

I got sick by going into one by LAX when my wife wanted to eat something before getting on a plane home. Flour is in the air everywhere!
  2. Its not all that hard to make your own with a blender or juicer and coffee filter. You can choose the peppers you want, add some vinegar and sugar with a lot of options like citrus juice, garlic and so forth. Google some hot sauce recipes. Once you find one you like, its worth the difference in taste and quality to make your own,
  3. Like with other grasses, proteins and other molecules can transmute from the seed into what grows, like the grass in wheat grass. I've never had the nerve to try it being celiac but working in botany, i would never chance the contamination. There are many other healthy green juices than to chance a glutening.
  4. I'll be there in Nov. so if you would like to meet some chefs in Tokyo just send me a message here. Do you know where you will be yet? Bottom line is you have to be careful in Japan but its not a problem. There are types of cuisinie like Yuba ryori which are gluten-free and amazingly good although more expensive. Good luck! Ken
  5. The first thing to do is research some of the older threads on the forum as they contain a lot of good information. I've had an office in Japan for 30 years and although celiac for only 8 or so. I've not had a problem in japan once I could explain to the chefs about my allergy. They dont all get it but most of them do. Having to explain it in japanese is...

  7. I usually try all of the juicers for our culinary school in Hawaii. They all work a little different and have pros and cons but for basic juicing of fruit and veggies, and of the $100 ones like Jack Lalane, juiceman or beville from Kmart/Walmart will work fine. You'll have fun with it, especially after tasting the juice from the skin of a pineapple!
  8. don't know the name toufayan-- the only ones we have are the brown rice wraps. Don't have the Rudi's either
  9. i took it for 3 days but had such bad side effects that I stopped. made me feel like i was in a haze and not in reality. horrid stuff!
  10. Thanks much, going to have to get back soon and try these. Rose's just opened when we left Chicago after 40 years there.
  11. Where is it located? gluten-free pita would be worth the trip by itself!
  12. long time no see, hope your doing ok
  13. Thanks for the update on Chicago places. What did you find at the airport?
  14. Both Whole Foods and Trader joes are fine. I find WF has a bigger selection and is more gluten-free friendly. The last time I was there I found a number of gluten-free pizza places that had dedicated gluten-free kitchens. Think I found them by searching gluten-free orange county. There should be some health food restaurants and shops with plenty of...
  15. It really does get better Melissa. Each of us takes a different amount of time to heal. Although I had trained as a chef I had not worked at it in 30 years until I came down with celiac about 8 years ago or. Having it really awakened me and my family and forced me to change for the better. If cooking for your family makes you sick I"m sure they will adjust...
  16. /celiac-disease/forbidden-gluten-food-list-unsafe-ingredients-r182/ is Scotts listing showing it may or may not contain gluten along with: 6) According to 21 C.F.R. S 101,22(a)(3): [t]he terns natural flavor or natural flavoring means the essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or any product of roasting, heating...

  19. Sure wish they had them in Hawaii!
  20. The chain Bonefish has always been really good and has a great Gluten Free menu. HAve not been there in 3 years but still its a great place.
  21. Thats about all we can hope for although sometimes you can order unagi or anago shioyaki -- just salt. ko mugi ( pronounced ko mu gee) allergy ( aruegee) should help them figure it out
  22. I've never had any problem with junmai, ginjo or daiginjo but these are types of sake in Japan. i can't be sure about other made in the US brands like Gekkeikan, Shochikubai, momokawa and a few others. Also namazake and nigori sake types should be ok.. I can't remember in my 9 years of being celiac and maybe 30 trips to Japan that time, of having...
  23. Being an avo grower, ive been using them to replace oil and mayo for years. just put some in a food processor with spices and a little almond or soy milk, or water or vinegar and make mayo or salad dressing or dips with a littel salsa added. so much you can do with it
  24. could be your allergic to the lipstick tree - Open Original Shared Link. its a relative of chocolate, Kola, Okra and cotton. In itself the tree is gluten free. what some companies might do to it is another story. Annatto that is making you sick might be for another reason. good luck
  25. Took me 2 days to get back on. DNS flush and cache clear didnt help. It just started working again on its own
