  1. I dont think they do this intentionally but it sure is misleading -- like the other thread on rice dream milk that doesnt list that it was process with barley enzyme. Has anyone on the forum or other place ever formed a proactive group to take these companies to task, write letters etc? Perhaps like AARP or other groups that speak for a particular...
  2. Malted Barley is there: "MILK CHOCOLATE (SUGAR, COCOA BUTTER, SKIM MILK, CHOCOLATE, LACTOSE, MILKFAT, SOY LECITHIN, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR), CORN SYRUP, SUGAR, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN OIL, SKIM MILK, LESS THAN 2% - MILKFAT, COCOA POWDER PROCESSED WITH ALKALI, LACTOSE, MALTED BARLEY, WHEAT FLOUR, SALT, EGG WHITES, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR." Once you click...
  3. Peter, I would guess the law applies to the packaging and not a web site. I think their site is somewhat misleading, if not confusing to the average user. If they are trying to be helpful it wouldn't hurt them to put allergens onto the site as well as the ingredient lists. Can't be that hard to type a few extra words! Ken
  4. Funny they dont list wheat on the allergen list for the Seeds of Change noodle dishes although its on the ingredient list. Same with Milky Way, malted barley is on the ingredient list but not the allergy list .. We still have to read it all and they sure need to update their site! ken
  5. Thanks, Nice to know the raisins are safe. Never did trust their dates or many of the other products. Dole sure has changed since it was a small company in Hawaii. They are still one of the largest land owners on Oahu but Dole Hawaii company is a small division of Dole Ecuador now.
  6. Here's something I picked up online about citrus allergies.. Peaches can contain some of the same properties as citrus. Do you have problems with lemons and limes etc.? Good luck Citrus Citric acid intolerance is not the same as citrus allergy. Citrus allergy sufferers respond to substances specific to citrus fruits such as limonene or...
  7. Maybe they are just worried about possible cross contamination issues in the kitchen. I would worry more about the nori than the rice. They could also worry about the phase glutenous rice which is not a problem for us. I've never had a problem with rice vinegar though. good luck
  8. Thanks for the info. So far (two years June 1) i've not had other intolerances that I know of although have had a number of tests. I do know if I eat too much salad or raw, I have trouble. Never cold eat raw tomatoes. As for eggplant you could try Baba Ganoush without cooking it. process it as fine as possible, add chopped garlic, lemon or lime juice...
  9. I think mine is Nature Made from Costco. Just make sure it's gluten free, Don't know Trivita. Ken ]
  10. It is interesting that there are so many reports on no gluten in envelope adhesive yet it continues to get so many of us sick. I have to wonder if the envelop manufacturers, who might just order adhesive from another company, really know the ingredients of the adhesive. I'll write a friend at 3M and see if they have anything to say about it. Ken
  11. Let me try to offer a male perspective. After 32 years of carrying each other though life's ups and downs I can say that its been and continues to be worth the struggle. If there are no bad times one cant really appreciate the good. As a male even in today's world we are constantly bombarded with images of the past and they way things were. It
  12. I had problems licking envelopes too. Was getting sick every Sunday and that was the only thing I could figure out. I pay bills on Sunday and as soon as I stopped licking I was fine. Paying bills was really making me sick! (Especially the electric company )
  13. I was 55 and woke up one morning, took a sip of coffee and threw up. Even without the coffee I did that for 6 months before they figured out is was celiac. I had never had any problems with any foods or allergies prior to 2.5 years ago. It just happens.. I read that 20% of us get it around age 60, sI I was just early.
  14. I know the mac nuts from hawaii are safe since we dont grow any other types here. I'm always careful of walnuts since some are coated in wheat starch. never had problems with almonds or nuts in the shell. Ken
  15. Right about the volcanic fog. Kind of saps the energy and affects some of the plants and harvests but I'm still fogging the mirror! Don't know of any parasites here or poisonous millipedes although we've some nasty 8 inch centipedes. Don't know about sharks either. I don't go in the water since too many other fish want to get even with me for eating their...
  16. I used top wake up every hour almost on the hour. After a few months of being totally gluten-free I could sleep though the night again. I started the B12 Rice Guy mentioned becasue after a year of gluten-free my energy level was still pretty low and the B12 helped a lot with that. Being TOTALLY gluten-free is really important though. Good luck Ken
  17. Thanks for posting this, it's pretty interesting. There are a number of people here who have converted their cars to run on old restaurant oil. With gas at 4.15 for the cheapest, I suspect a number of others will be doing it. Since we have no sidewalks or shoulders in most places, walking and bikes can be dangerous. Nice to know there are others working...
  18. We had our earthquake so you should be safe for anther 98 years. Kona is the avocado place to be. Mango too for that matter. We've not had a hurricane in Kona in recorded history so you'll be safe here --just learn to enjoy the vog.
  19. IT was the culinary equivalent of $1000. Jeopardy questions!
  20. Might be easier to move to Hawaii and reach outside the window to pick and avocado. The difference between an avocado that is fresh off the tree and ripens in 2 or 3 days and one that was artificially ripened while in a container for a month is amazing. I make a cold avocado soup with 2 to 5 avocados ( depending on size and what type is in season), almond...

Kind of hard to have ham and cheese when you cant have dairy and pork. You can get good gluten free pancake mixes, gluten-free breads and a fair number of other items at local healthfood stores. I would worry about gyros though. If you can find packaged ones in major markets and check whats in them that would be safer. good luck ken
  22. Sadly my son really has no interest in it although some of culinary students do. I would like to see a student challenge one of these days too. They have these at regional chef conferences and are a lot of fun. Also a knowledge bowl with buzzers and the whole thing which is really hard even for the most experienced chefs. I sat at one with executive chefs...
  23. I'm hip deep in a avocado project for the University here and this year marks the 100th anniv. of Calif. keeping Hawaiian avocados out of the mainland. We have 200 types just in Kona and 1411 registered ones around the globe. 80% better than the hass. Tough to fight the calif. marketing giants who own 68% of the Mexican crop. Anyway I do hope you can try...
  24. Too bad it's illegal to send you real avocados from Hawaii. If you can find the Fla. smooth skinned types, they have a lower oil content and easier on the stomach than the Calif. Hass. There is also a big difference between something that is picked too young and ripened by ethylene gas while being shipped and something off the tree. Guess you'll have to...

How about rice? If you get a rice cooker you can put some fresh veggies or even canned peas & carrots in it and cook them with the rice and some spices you can have. You can some types of rice that are easier on the gut like aborrio. Instant rice might be processed in some weird way. Brown rice is usually the best. Good luck!
