ARCHIVED Coffee/spice Grinders
plantime replied to loregon's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bought a GE One-Touch Coffee Grinder from Wal Mart for $13.00, and it works great on my flax. It is easy to clean, and has several coarseness selections. -
Stress will affect your cycle. So much stuff does affect, sometimes I wonder that the human race has survived! (That's supposed to be a ha-ha, btw!) It is the percentage of bodyfat, or ratio, or something like that, and it varies from woman to woman. Try to relax, things usually work out in the end!

ARCHIVED Gf Bread
plantime replied to mela14's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You could very well still be reacting to the gluten in the other food. There is also a possibility that you are allergic to nuts. Make sure you stay glutenfree! -
At 5'5", 113 is still quite thin. My daughter is 5'3", she weighs 116, and the doc says she is right on target. Try gaining another 10 pounds and see what happens. You have a long way to go before you are overweight!

ARCHIVED Got My York Allergy Results!
plantime replied to mela14's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mel, If you are going to go glutenfree now, don't even consider the biopsy at a later date. You will start healing, and so the results might be negative. I am glad that you have answers, and that you now know what to do! -
ARCHIVED Help With Daughter Who's Regressing On Diet.
plantime replied to paula's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would look hard at the play doh. As far as I know, gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin, so she must be getting some of it in her mouth. It could be that the play doh is sticking to surfaces, then getting on her hands after washing, and contaminating her food. I would take away the play doh and see if she improves. -
What is too thin or too fat for each person depends on each person's body. What is fat for you may be just right for me, and vice versa. There is no easy answer, which is why a gyn is the best bet for this problem.

ARCHIVED Need Help
plantime replied to muffin2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Constant vigilance over everything that goes in my mouth is the way. I also have my hubby and kids helping me read labels. Educating them on what I cannot have has been a blessing to me! -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain
plantime replied to I'm more celiac than you's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Since you have been glutenfree for two weeks, your body might be in detox stage. The symptoms you are having could very well be your body finally eliminating the gluten from your system, and trying to adjust to not having to fight it any more. If you truly prefer being sick over not eating the foods that make you sick, then have at it. It's your body,... -
I'm not a teenager, but maybe I can fill you in a bit. If you girls are in the "very thin" class of celiacs, it is possible that you do not have enough body fat to sustain a regular cycle. If you are extremely obese, you might have too much body fat. If you are very anemic, your body might be conserving nutrients by skipping cycles. There are many factors...

ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction
plantime replied to Carriefaith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I get that way. I have to just lie down until the pain goes away because it feels like someone is grabbing and twisting my insides. -
ARCHIVED Wheat Allergy Mentioned On Sitcom.
plantime replied to MySuicidalTurtle's topic in Publications & Publicity
First comics, now sitcoms. Looks like the mainstream is going to hear about us whether they want to or not! -
You might not be getting enough potassium. Of course, your feet also just might need stretching more, too! I get muscle spasms all over my body, feet, legs, and back mainly. The only thing I can do for it is make sure I get enough vitamins and minerals, stretch, and sometimes use muscle relaxers. Doc doesn't know what causes them, so I am pretty much...

ARCHIVED Sleep Problems And Anemia
plantime replied to singswtharmony's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Severe and persistent anemia makes you very tired, and it interferes with your sleep. You will not sleep deeply, and you will wake up many times during the night. Iron supplements alone will not do the trick, you probably need all of the vitamins and minerals. Talk to your doctor about getting a liquid supplement that will be easier for your body to absorb... -
ARCHIVED Need Help
plantime replied to muffin2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am overweight and celiac. I never have gotten the diarrhea, instead I get badly constipated. It just depends on how your body reacts to the gluten. Since the bloodtests were positive, my advice is to consider yourself celiac and adhere to the glutenfree diet. Your biopsies being negative only means that no discernable damage has been done yet. An ounce... -
ARCHIVED Confusing Biopsy Results
plantime replied to sagapocristo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
40 is how old I am now, and I was just diagnosed. I have had mild symptoms on and off all my life, just no one ever knew what was the actual cause. You have positive bloodwork, and the blunting to me is a positive biopsy. No conflict. -
Pack a lunch. It is the easiest, most convenient method for me.

I mix my own flour. I use 1 part each of garbanzo bean, soy, potato, tapioca, and cornstarch. When I bake something, I use 2 parts of my flour and 1 part of cornstarch, and a pinch of xanthan gum. It works very well for me.

Try Pantene brand. I have had wonderful success with that brand. -
ARCHIVED Furthing Testing
plantime replied to beach's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since your sister has it, you should definitely get tested. My sister is taking my biopsy results to her doc and asking for the tests, since celiac is genetic. Your symptoms could be anxiety, which seems to be the diagnosis of choice these days, but they could also be celiac. I went to my doc about a severe headache that originated in my right ear, she... -
You might try adding omega-3 oil to your diet. I use ground flax every day, when I don't, the dry flaky skin comes back. My herbal remedies book says that celiacs have problems getting nutrients from fats (as if we didn't know that!), and to consume fish oil supplements. I'm not saying it will work for everyone, it just works for me!

ARCHIVED Worsening Symtpoms...
plantime replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Shannon, relax!! In your first post, you said the doc told you to go off wheat, dairy, and eggs, and that you "did not heed her advice." That is what I based my statement on. If you know that those items make you sick, then do not eat them. If you do eat them, knowing that they will make you sick, then don't come crying to me. If your new doctor has... -
ARCHIVED Awesome One Bowl Chocolate Cake Recipe
plantime replied to MichelleC's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made a devil's food cake yesterday, and ate the whole thing! This is my recipe: For flour mix: 1 cup soy flour, 1 cup garbanzo bean flour, 1 cup tapioca flour, 1 cup potato flour/starch, and 1 cup corn starch, mixed well, stored in airtight canister. For flax mixture: heat 9 tablespoons water, stir in 3 tablespoons ground flax, let stand 5 minutes... -
ARCHIVED Worsening Symtpoms...
plantime replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"About a year ago, I tested positive on a blood test for a wheat allergy (along with egg and milk). I believe it was an IgG test or something like that. My doctor said to go off of all three and see if I feel better. I didn't heed her advice, needless to say." Why didn't you heed her advice? An IgG reaction is bad, very bad. She told you what to not... -
ARCHIVED Is Dieter's Tea Gf?
plantime replied to HAPPY DOG SUZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Since your question was answered, let me ask you one: are you using this tea to lose weight? No amount of herbs and teas will make you lose weight. The only real way to lose weight is to watch what you eat and exercise. If you are using the tea because you like them, then enjoy!
