ARCHIVED Tolerance?
plantime replied to HeatherMelissa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If your child is old enough to ask for crackers, then she is old enough for table food. The transition can be made in one day, except for the breast milk. The symptoms are varied and sometimes thought of as other things. The endoscopy and colonoscopy being good only means that it was caught before damage was done to her intestines. Even a little gluten... -
ARCHIVED What Does This Mean
plantime replied to eternity's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with Tiffany. The diet is not as difficult as some people make it out to be. It would be even easier if your entire family is glutenfree. It is your decision to make. -
ARCHIVED Going Off Of Gluten Free Diet
plantime replied to Susan123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
All allergies produce symptoms. You are just not recognizing the symptoms in your body. A headache, muscle cramps, fatigue, joint pain, irritability, these are all symptoms of allergy. Respiratory and gastrically are just the most obvious ones. You have tested positive for wheat allergy. Eating it is a very big mistake. It is your health, ruin it if... -
ARCHIVED Eye Problems
plantime replied to gooser's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I started by eliminating everything processed (except ice cream, it is my big weakness!). I ate only meat, veggies, fruit, and dairy. After two weeks eating just that, I felt much better, so I added back in foods, one at a time (just like the pediatrician told me to do when starting my babies on solid foods). The first thing I added back in was bread... -
ARCHIVED Eye Problems
plantime replied to gooser's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I used an elimination diet with a very specific food journal. I kept track of every little headache, right down to what time it set in, and how long it lasted. Muscle cramps, fatigue, constipation, every thing was noted. Time consuming, yes. But I figured out what not to eat to make myself feel better. Now, I am taking allergy shots, but I feel miserable... -
ARCHIVED Going Off Of Gluten Free Diet
plantime replied to Susan123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have been diagnosed with a wheat allergy, so please do yourself a favor, and do not eat wheat! If I were you, I would still avoid gluten. I know the diet is a pain, but it is doable, and once you get used to it, it is easy. Because of your allergy, you will have to read labels for the rest of your life anyway, and you will have to avoid the main gluten... -
ARCHIVED How Long Before Symptoms Went Away?
plantime replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine wasn't severe when it was caught, so my symptoms disappeared in 6-8 weeks. I decided I was most fortunate! -
ARCHIVED For Women Cd Suffers Only.....
plantime replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The hormone shift that cause us to menstruate also causes looser stools and diarhhea, so it is natural for even a non-celiac woman to have diarhhea right before her period. For those that already have diarhhea, it only makes it worse. If you have cramps with your period, the muscle contractions will cause continual bowel elimination. It is all tied up... -
I just made some yummy chocolate/oatmeal cookies! Chocolate Fillers 3/4 c butter 1 c brown sugar 1/2 tsp sea salt 1 1/2 c chickpea flour 1 c quick oats 14 oz sweetened condensed milk 1 c semisweet chocolate chips (I used 1 whole bag!) Cream butter with sugar and salt. Blend in flour and oats until fine. Press about 2/3 of the mixture into...

I have to massage all of my stomach, but it does help me. I start at the groin on the right side, massage up to the ribs, across, then down the left. I keep repeating for 15-20 minutes, every night. When I'm really constipated, I feel the blockage, and it hurts. If you take antihistamines for allergies, it could very well be the cause, or at least a contributor...

ARCHIVED Cross-contamination Question
plantime replied to Raditch's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Cross-contamination is a serious issue for us. It is very possible that a loaf of gluten-free bread produced in a regular factory could be contaminated. And yes, it could be very bad, even if it is just a miniscule amount of contamination. The maltodextrin in one small vitamin tablet sent me into a spin for several days. It was a teeny-tiny amount, but... -
ARCHIVED Undiagnosed
plantime replied to Niteyx13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I discovered mine by mistake. I was trying to find out if my mom's food allergies caused her colon to rupture, which caused her death. I was wading through a myriad of things, when I stumbled on celiac. The article in Woman's Day came out at that time, so I tried the diet. since my case was not advanced, I was feeling better in just a couple of weeks... -
ARCHIVED Undiagnosed
plantime replied to Niteyx13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Enterolab does stool testing, they can find gluten sensitivity with it. You can use that test for yourself and your children, without a doctor's prescription. Regardless of the way you are diagnosed, the treatment is the same: no gluten whatsoever for the rest of your life. You can keep going from doctor to doctor, trying to get the tests done, that is... -
ARCHIVED Can Going Gluten Free Affect Mood?
plantime replied to Alexolua's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Could it have been something like withdrawal? I read somewhere that gluten has an almost addictive quality, which would mean withdrawal symptoms when going gluten-free. That would certainly explain the "feeling worse before better" thing that happened to me when I went gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Undiagnosed
plantime replied to Niteyx13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Deanna, The tests are very expensive. While the blood tests are not invasive, the endoscopy and biopsies are. Some doctors do not accept the improvement with diet change, but mine did. I did the diet before knowing that I had to be on gluten for testing, and decided not to go back. One small accident leaves me miserable for days on end. The beauty of... -
ARCHIVED Finally Got A Diagnosis
plantime replied to j9n's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A definite diagnosis means finally being able to do something about it. The relief is almost overwhelming! I am glad for you, to finally be out from under the cloud of wondering! -
Thank you, Richard! I didn't even know there was a number I could call about that! I bet your block party is a blast! We are fortunate, in that we can take of ourselves just by watching what we eat. Compared to the treatments for other problems, ours is relatively easy and cheap. I know the food costs more, but not as much as some medications!
-
Terri, I am so glad they did that for you! It is just awesome to learn that someone will do that for someone else!

ARCHIVED Food Cravings And Cures
plantime replied to travelthomas's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was having liver problems, I craved teas. Horrible, bitter teas, that just satisfied the whatever perfectly. When I have a cold, tomato juice with black pepper in it, or fresh oranges. I just thought it was "conditioning", as in daddy always fixed me tomato juice with black pepper in it when I was sick, Mom always gave me an orange to eat, and stuff... -
ARCHIVED Favorite Gf Pasta?
plantime replied to catfish's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ancient Harvest Quinoa Pasta is my favorite. By the time I put cheddar cheese and/or Ragu spaghetti sauce on it, I don't even notice a taste/texture difference. Just don't overcook it! -
ARCHIVED Found New Gluten-free Online Store
plantime replied to jmalan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got my sample today. The doc told me I can have eggs now, that supposedly my body won't react to them because the egg problem was because of gluten? I know dairy is that way, but other foods? My daughter tried some, and said it was awful. She doesn't like anything gluten-free! Oh, well, more for me! -
ARCHIVED What To Do?
plantime replied to lyndszai's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please also remember: the diet itself is a test for sensitivity and celiac. I got so much better just by staying gluten-free, that my doctor refused to do any more tests. She said eating gluten just for a test would do unnecessary harm to my body. Your dietician should not be pressuring you to have additional testing. If your doctor is satisfied that... -
My cholesterol was just over the border: 187 ldl, 37 hdl. I was on Lipitor, which brought it down nicely, but I had an adverse reaction to the drug. Now, I use 1 tsp ground flax mixed into something I eat each day, garlic, cod liver oil capsules (omega-3 stuff), and exercise. I will find out in December if it helps. These are all supposed to be great...

Southern home cooking. Yep, rolled in flour, then deep-fried! I have a family reunion on the fourth to attend. I didn't ask, I told them all I would bring my own food. One of my sisters expects cakes baked for each person so we can celebrate all of the birthdays at once. HAH!! If she wants 'em, SHE can bake 'em! I will bake and freeze my cake, and...
