  1. As young as your children are, you should see results in 4-6 weeks. The damage that takes months to reverse took years to happen. Enterolab's test is non-invasive, and you do not have to consume gluten for it. I fully understand weird finances! I have to know a month in advance if someone in my family will be going to the doctor! Just fix meat and veggies...
  2. My doctor accepted the diet alone as proof of intolerance. I understand from other posts that Enterolab is quite accurate, but your doctor might not accept the test. You have to be consuming gluten to get a positive result on bloodtests, and have severe damage for a positive biopsy. Many people feel so much better on the gluten-free diet, that they do...
  3. Go with your instincts. You know that something is wrong with your children, do not let anyone tell you otherwise. If you have to, pay out of your pocket to see a different doctor. If it is celiac or a wheat allergy, the only treatment is a gluten-free diet. You do not have to have a doctor's note to do that. You simply stop eating foods that have gluten...
  4. A wonderful lady that I love to visit with at church got an education on celiac disease at our ladies meeting last night. The only thing on the refreshment table that I could have was a cup of Sprite, and she asked why I wasn't eating anything. I make it a point to tell as many people as are willing to listen!
  5. Find a marriage counselor. If your husband won't go with you, go without him.
  6. Please just keep us posted.
  7. I looked back and the site is www.oprah.com/
  8. Stick to the diet, read ALL labels! It takes anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 years, depending on the level of damage your body sustained. Keep reading the board, and asking questions. Be patient with your body, and smile, things will get better from here! BTW: we are doing a campaign to get Oprah to do a segment on Celiac Disease, so please e-mail her!...
  9. I sent mine in.
  10. I do not have it bad. Mine was caught early because of a family history of allergies. I also suffered less damage because my family was too poor for bread and pasta all the time when I was young. In February, an intestinal virus (after having influenza at Christmas, I will never again confuse the two!) went through our community. Every one that got it...
  11. If he is celiac and still consuming gluten even in trace amounts, he will continue to get sick. It could be that the damage before diagnosis was so severe that it was already too late to save him. It could also be that something entirely different is causing the decline. I am very sorry about your friend. I hope you get answers and peace with what is...
  12. Stacie, I agree: your child's well-being is so worth the money you spent! You also got peace of mind, which is priceless!
  13. My doctor diagnosed Celiac Sprue from the diet changes. You have to have almost massive amounts of damage for the tests to show positive. If you feel better on the gluten-free diet, then stick with it. A long, healthy life is very much worth not eating wheat!
  14. I was always told to expose the bare skin of the face, hands, and forearms for 15 minutes four times a week to avoud vitamin D deficiency. It is not long enough to get sun damage. It does help the mood to improve, too! Sunlight, sunlight, in my soul today!
  15. My prayers are with her and her family. She has made a wonderful contribution to our lives through her cookbooks.
  16. Maybe we need to learn to inject more humor into our lives! A real good laugh would sure do wonders for relieving the stress we all feel!
  17. But some hash browns have wheat starch in the coatings, so be careful!
  18. Alison, Congratulations on your pregnancy, and let us know how it turns out, as in gender, weight, birth date!
  19. How do I find an asian market? What do I look under in the phone book?
  20. Jaimek, I read your post, and immediately went ot look at my shampoo! The conditioner,Matrix Curl Life defining system, has hydrolyzed wheat protein in it! I'll have to keep an "eye" on how I might react to that! Thank you for the "Head's" Up on it! (all puns obviously intended)
  21. My back pain is easy for me to trace: either I have overdone the physical part, or I am becoming dehydrated. One time, though, it was caused by a kidney infection. I am supposed to take a B-complex with my iron supplement every day, but I cannot find a B-complex that does not have contamination. Does anyone know where I should look?
  22. Kejohe, Since all of the companies come out with new soups all of the time to compete, can't they be radically different and do a gluten-free one? I "adapted" by making my own soup at home. I have "adapted" so much , that I am tired of trying. Even my poor little cat looks tired of adapting, and she only has to eat the food!(a touch of humor there, since...
  23. Check your labels for things like maltodextrin and starch. A lot of cereals are cross-contaminated in the factory, so you won't find it on the label. Rice sometimes has field contamination. I like Sam's Choice all beef hot dogs!
  24. This one of us that cannot have eggs thanks you very much!
  25. I was very supportive of my husband when he had ulcers and a hernia, so he is returning the love now. I am very fortunate to have such a wonderful husband! I am sorry yours is being such a jerk about it.
