ARCHIVED Tips For Taking Food With You
missy'smom replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Great tips. Another that us moms use is to freeze a juicebox and use it as the icepack. Same with applesauce cups. -
I just want to share some thoughts and see what you all think/do since I know there are a number of people here who are casein and soy free in addition to gluten. Dining out for me has been a real comedy of errors lately and has gotten ridiculous. The waitstaff, despite their best efforts get a bit overwhelmed and I just don't enjoy the experience. I get...

ARCHIVED Burning Skin
missy'smom replied to Andrew10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not too much drama I think. No need to panic, certainly, be calm and be wise and follow up with an allergist and testing. What was described are classic allergy reaction and the poster reported multiple symptoms and reaction multiple times. Anaphylaxis can start in ways we don't generally hear about and would not expect. Allergies can progress. I have an... -
ARCHIVED Burning Skin
missy'smom replied to Andrew10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should check the oils in the dressing and fries and see if they have something in common. I react to soy and sunflower oils(allergy). -
ARCHIVED Burning Skin
missy'smom replied to Andrew10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am latex(natural rubber) allergic and spandex burns my skin. No jeans, bras etc. with spandex for me anymore. I have to search out 100% cotton with no elastic straps, bands etc. -
I developed an allergy to flax You could have an allergy, an intolerance or it could just be irritating to a sensitive/damaged Gi tract. Many things like seeds(including things like tomato seeds), nuts, corn and such can be irritating/difficult to digest.

Check Asian markets. We've used National/Panasonic for decades. It is the workhorse of our kitchen. The newer models are investments but they really pay off. The only reason we got a newer one after more than 10 years on our old one was because the newer one was given to us and had a few more functions. Our old one was still going strong. I add veggies, stock...

ARCHIVED Canned Vegetables
missy'smom replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Canned foods can contain things in the lining and sealing of the cans that can be irritants. Those who are severely latex allergic report that some cans contain latex(natural rubber). I rarely eat canned goods but had some super cheapo canned green beans a few months back and had burning mouth I am latex allergic. I didn't call the MFR. to confirm that's... -
ARCHIVED Low Carb Gluten Challenge
missy'smom replied to shrty331's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's not a lot of gluten but you could make sure you are eating things like regular non-gluten-free soy-sauce, chicken broths and soups with wheat in them . There are some WASA or Bran a Crisp crackers or the like that are LC and made with rye so they are not-gluten-free. Even Dr. Bernestein(LC diabetes diet advocate)allows those on his plan as they have... -
ARCHIVED Housekeepers - How Much Do You Pay?
missy'smom replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sorry to stray from the topic a bit but I'm not sure what to think of the fact that housecleaning services fall in the same price range of private ESL/English Tutors... Scratching my head wondering what benefit there is to my degree and 10+ years of experience...and these days so many people don't even want to pay over $10 per hr. I got $13 per hr. when... -
ARCHIVED Gtt Results And Other Lab Results
missy'smom replied to SleepyBunny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, don't dismiss these symptoms. Forgive me if I've already mentioned this in previous conversation, but if you work in an environment where latex gloves are used, especially powdered, your symptoms could be latex allergy. I have one and I can get immediate runny nose and red eyes etc. just from walking in the room. I still easily ignore the runny nose... -

missy'smom replied to Tabz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Store flax in the freezer to keep it fresh. I use my coffee grinder to make oat flour or quick oats. I only buy rolled oats. -
ARCHIVED Numb Tongue, Excess Saliva
missy'smom replied to ctenny's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Numbness and excess body fluids can be part of allergic reactions. I get numb fingers when I touch one of my allergens. I get not numbness, but burning tongue when I ingest a few of my allergens. I get runny nose or mucus build-up in my throat or lungs when I am exposed to one of my allergens. -
ARCHIVED Enjoy Life Cookies And Diarrhea
missy'smom replied to Cashe2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Enjoy life uses flax in a number of their cookies. I am flax allergic and would react like you did. I worry about CC with enjoylife and another comany that uses flax in some products but not others. Haven't contacted either. I am also allergic to buckwheat. I get D from food allergies. Skylark, I am now allergic to corn and tapioca and potato so not... -
ARCHIVED Eczema & The Small Pox Vaccine
missy'smom replied to plumbago's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Here's my opinion. People who have eczema have allergies, whether they be environmental or food and the allergies trigger the eczema so those who have this bad reaction to the vaccine may have unknown allergies to the ingredients. Seems to me the standard treatment for eczema is to say here's some cream, use this, that's it. My son's first allergist had eczema... -

ARCHIVED Got My Little Boys Results Today...
missy'smom replied to *charliesmum*'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, there you go, you can give him the safe yogurt for breakfast. Sometimes we have to think outside the box and try other things for breakfast that are not traditional. Any dairy is good for B. Cheese, yogurt, some breakfast meat, fruit. My son and I have baked(microwaved) sweet potatoes/yams for breakfast-a dash of cinnamon and butter, or maple syrup... -

ARCHIVED Desperate And Feeling Terrible In Japan
missy'smom replied to Eric-S's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Eric I will also advise that you eat some meat or eggs. I was a vegetarian wannabe most of my life and stayed away from meat a lot but my body functions SO much better on it. I saw your earlier reply and understand. Just adding my voice and vote . Adzuki(if you can get non-sugary preparation) and quinoa may give some protein. Quinoa is supposed to be... -
ARCHIVED Desperate And Feeling Terrible In Japan
missy'smom replied to Eric-S's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you should get in and get a general check up/evaluation regardless of the gluten issue. We can often have other this out of balance as a result of the damage that gluten does to our bodies. My DH had a sudden bloody nose this year, turns out that is a symptom of high blood pressure. His was quite high so it brok the little blood vessels in his nose... -
