  1. Hey I'm on the dating scene. I'm tall, hansom, intelligent, witty, romantic, caring, and best of all, I'm gluten free! Any takers.....[crickets chirping in the background]....I didn't think so. Speaking from the guys standpoint, I have only gone on one new date since diagnosis in November. She was a physician and actually guessed before I told her....
  2. Phyllis, That is interesting to hear. I have diabetes and wear an insulin pump which transmits radio signals to/from my glucose monitor. A Dr letter of medical necessity are no longer accepted by "most" airport security. It has never become a really big issue but it does come up. I have a very unofficial looking card that explains why I have to have...
  3. Looking out the back window at the Church of the Good Shepard.
  4. There are only 2 fast food chains in my small town, McDonalds and Subway. Only a couple days after I was diagnosed I decided to try a salad at Subway. Not knowing then what I know now about cross-contamination I thought I was fine. In reality, they mixed the salad and chopped the veggies on the same surface used to prepare subs. The yalso used the same...
  5. Kaycee, I was working in Auckland, just outside downtown a ways. I did manage to travel the entire country while I was there; from Cape Rienga to Dunedin. Just changed my avatar to Purakaui Falls on the south island, this should make up for the dryness in your avatar. By the way, is Hokey Pokey gluten-free? Adam
  6. Dang it!!!! That stuff is yummy good aint it? It must be popcorn selling time somewhere in the world. I may not make it until next year.
  7. Hello all. Just wanted to say I miss NZ so much. I used to live there not long ago and and wish to return again soon. I was not a celiac when I lived there, but it's good to know that food is easy to find there. My friends used to tease me by calling McDonalds the "American Embassy." Good times.
  8. Brian, I don't know about Cracker Jacks brand, but I ate my entire little tim of caramel popcorn with nuts I had ordered from the local boy scouts (before I was DX celiac but then they delivered shortly after, same story with girl scout cookies!) Oh, and I ate them over a period of a week or two, not all at once. Anyway, I did not have any problems, but...
  9. Peacock, I'm there for ya, babe! I have had Type 1 for 17 years and now on a pump. I was DX celiac by accident just before thanksgiving. We were trying to explain the cause and prevention of a number of low blood sugar attacks that sent me to the ER. In fact, I'm writing this at 2:30am because...well...you know what happend at 2am, and what keeps you...
  10. Wow! Does he have a sister? I went on my first date after being gluten-free not long ago. We met at a coffee shop, she ordered a scone and offered me some and I politely said no thanks. We hung out most of the afternoon and went to a steakhouse for dinner. When my salad arrived with croutons, I politely asked to get another with just plain vegies....
  11. I bought myself a rice cooker for Xmas, and for the most part, I love it. Before the cooker I sometimes used broth to flavor the rice, or butter. I'm now turning to you cooking experts out there. Can I use broth in the rice cooker or add butter? Any other ideas to flavor the rice? Any help would be appreciated.
  12. I'm relatively new, so excuse me if this has been covered before. My gut make the most horrendous noises lateley. I was DX right before thanksgiving, and have tried to be as gluten-free as can be. No D/C, vomiting, or greater feeling of ickyness. Seems to be really bad when I lay down at night. I hope I don't wake the neighbors! But the noises have...
  13. Alright, I give up. I admit it was a terrible attempt at a joke. If I was any good at comedy I wouldn't do what I do now....come to think of it, I'm not very good at doing that either.
  14. Cross contamination....duh!
  15. FYI-Bat heads areNOT gluten-free
  16. Ah, the constant struggle to feed America's college kids. Please know that you are not alone and many of us have gone through that phase. I had several older individuals who understood what I was going through during college and grad school. At least once a week I was taken out to lunch or offered to come over for a home-cooked meal. If you have people...
  17. Just have to chime in here. I too am cold all the time. I share an office with a Minnesota native and have given in to her comfort level so I wear my heavy winter coat inside while working. My Apt is set at 78 so I feel fine in there. Thyroid has checked out normal but I too suffer from anemia and get shots every 2 weeks plus take iron supplements. When...
  18. A lot of my story probably does not directly relate to Celiac, but who knows? Still it is MY story, so here it goes: I was always the kid that never got sick at all. I was a very overweight boy. At age 13 I suddenly lost 30lbs and was diagnosed with type I diabetes. I slimmed up and have been slim the rest of my life. No more problems really until...
  19. Hey, Ya'll. I live in Iowa now but am Sooner born, Sooner bred, and when I die I'm Sooner dead! So very good to hear folks talkin' bout places back home. Next time I am down visiting the folks in Edmond or college buds in Tahlequah I'll have to try and make contact. A
  20. I actually live in Northern Iowa but spend a great deal of time in MN, mostly Rochester area. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. A
