ARCHIVED Additional Autoimmune Disease
wowzer replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have asthma and thyroid. My arthritis symptoms pretty much went into remission when I went gluten free. -
I agree that the percent should be higher. I remember seeing 20% chance of having celiac disease if a family member has it. I do believe that it could be on both my mother and father's side. I have a diagnosed sister with celiac disease. I believe I have DH. I have been gluten free for a year now.

I've now gotten itchy hives 2 nights in a row. Last night my husband made salmon patties using my gluten free bread for the crumbs. He did use regular crumbs for his. I'm wondering if CC could cause this. Could I be allergic to salmon now? Tonight we had a roast, I made the potatoes and gravy in my own pans and used brown rice flour to make the gravy...

ARCHIVED Chocolate Marshmallows
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I did think they were tasty just to eat too. So did someone else in the house!!! I had to try the treats just to see. They might be good in hot cocoa too!!! -
I bought this bag of Chocolate Kraft Marshmallows. I used Erewhon krispy brown rice cereal and the chocolate marshmallows to make krispy treats. If you like chocolate these came out pretty good. Wendy

My bosses are taking us to dinner at Logan's on Wednesday. Anyone know what is safe? I haven't found much luck looking on their site so far.

ARCHIVED More Difficult Than I Thought
wowzer replied to newglu's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the group. I am also 53. I went gluten free the beginning of this year. So many symptoms went away in the beginning. I did find that I became more sensitive to gluten once I eliminated it. It is a lot to learn. Hope you are feeling better soon. Wendy -
ARCHIVED Help! Seriously Dry Skin
wowzer replied to loco-ladi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
St. Ives Extreme Relief Moisturizing Lotion. It is hypo allergenic. It is the only lotion that I have found that doesn't make me itch. Do watch because some of their lotions contain gluten. -
ARCHIVED Sundaes
wowzer replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went to Dairy Queen and had them specially make an ice cream cake with no cookie crunch. I had them use fudge, caramel and pecans for the middle layer. They have many toppings and ice cream that is gluten free. I did have to give them 2 days. -
ARCHIVED Kraft Original Barbecue Sauce
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you. The ribs were so good. When I saw the bottle of Kraft in the trash, I did read the ingredients. I just was surprised when we bought the bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's and then he used the Kraft. He will be glad to know that the Original Kraft is safe, it is his favorite. -
ARCHIVED Yoplait Yogurt
wowzer replied to Joyous's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wonder if it has to do with the supply of containers. I just bought the cherry orchard and it does say gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Strange Symptom
wowzer replied to momothree's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have wondered that too. I know hemroids can itch, but I don't have them. The itching did go away when I went gluten free. If I have been glutened by accident sometimes it feels like everything coming out of me itches. I wonder if it could be DH up there maybe? -
ARCHIVED Kraft Original Barbecue Sauce
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We had barbecued ribs for dinner. I noticed when I was cleaning the kitchen an empty bottle of Kraft Original Barbecue Sauce in the garbage after we bought Sweet Baby Ray's. Here is the list of ingredients: high fructose corn syrup, vinegar, water, concentrated tomato juice (water, tomato paste), modified food starch, salt, contains less than 2% molasses... -
ARCHIVED Swanson's Organic Beef Broth

Yes so true. I looked at it as something I couldn't make. -
ARCHIVED The Extent Of This Is Mind-boggling ...
wowzer replied to Sailing Girl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
At my family Thanksgiving (husband's step sister really), the conversation came up about IBS between a couple people. I listened to them and when they were finished I asked do you think it is related to your diet. One is taking pills that she says are working. The other is covered with what I believe is a DH rash and has the "IBS" symptoms too. I went... -
ARCHIVED Self Diagnosed-would Like To Hear Some Opinions
wowzer replied to ZZBottom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The bloated belly from childhood is a symptom. I noticed my "brain fog" lifted afer a few weeks gluten free. I get a funny vision feeling when I get glutened. I know that low iron can also be a symptom. The same with the stools. I am self diagnosed and had many symptoms disappear after going gluten free and some that I didn't expect. It sounds to me... -
ARCHIVED Swanson's Organic Beef Broth
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought a container of the Swanson's Organic Beef Broth. It states that it is gluten free on the front of the package. I looked at the back and it has a recipe for a barley soup. Does that make sense of what! -
ARCHIVED I Couldn't Believe This One--dear Hubby
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My favorite breads pre gluten were a crusty french or sour dough. I didn't bother eating just any bread pre gluten. (Almost like my body knew in a way. I did the same thing with cookies.) I also took leftovers instead of sandwiches for lunch. I just went gluten free the beginning of the year. Maybe next time I'll make his pie crust gluten free and not... -

I wonder that also. My sister is a diagnosed celiac. My father got a blistery rash after surgery. Could it have been DH cause from the iodine? He also was on the toilet after every meal. My Mom has had itch rashes and has arthritis bad. -
ARCHIVED I Couldn't Believe This One--dear Hubby
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The thing is he isn't that big on cookies. Really the only time he will eat them is when they come out of the oven. I think the first gluten free baked good he tried was bread. I haven't found one that I will eat like I did pre gluten free. Talk about the worst gluten free food to test. I did bake corn bread muffins last night and he ate one. I made... -
ARCHIVED I Couldn't Believe This One--dear Hubby
wowzer replied to wowzer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that is the frustrating part for me. He seems to go in streaks. When I went gluten free the beginning of the year, he had a gluten free cheesecake baked by a chef. He will go to specialty stores and bring me home gluten free food. The problem seems to be when he tries to cook both. I'm still working on that. He did finally buy me some pans of... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Anxious About Eating During The Holidays?
wowzer replied to Virgie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So far I've found eating at family functions almost worse than eating out. I survived Thanksgiving with no problems. I did have to come home to eat turkey. I took a waldorf salad, I should have also taken a dessert. I'll plan better for Christmas. -
ARCHIVED Ideas For A Gluten-free Tea Party
wowzer replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You could bake cookies or muffins gluten free. I did go to the Dairy Queen and ordered a specially made ice cream cake. If you look on their website they have a good list of gluten free sundaes and blizzards. We get them at work and when I looked at it, the only thing that I could see with gluten in it were the crushed cookies in the center. I asked them...
