This will be my first gluten free Thanksgiving. I'm supposed to go to my sister in laws. I would rather stay home and cook really. I'm hoping they make the same turkey as last year, it wasn't stuffed!!! My husband will go deer hunting over Thanksgiving if he doesn't get one this week. My son wants to go. I will just try to bring a veggie dish and maybe...

ARCHIVED Can Diphenhydramine Hydrocloride Or Benadryl Be A Possible Treatment?
wowzer replied to lyndao's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
On www.glutenfreedrugs.com they only list Benedryl elixir as gluten free. Does anyone know about the pills or capsules? It seems like I've seen it posted that they couldn't guarantee the pills and capsules to be gluten free. It makes me wonder because I was taking them a year ago for itching and getting no relief. Benedryl had always been the one thing... -
ARCHIVED Kids Cereals.....
wowzer replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've heard both on those cereals too. I can't remember if they are safe now or not either. -
Good for your Mom. My hubby has tried a couple of my baked goods. He also tried some gluten free bread, which I can understand not liking. But the ice cream because it was gluten free. All I did was have them eliminate the crushed oreos in the middle and had them use pecans. I guess maybe he thought that their was actual cake in it.

My grandson was coming over to celebrate his birthday and mine. I decided to order a gluten free ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. My husband wasn't even going to try it because it was "gluten-free!" Dairy Queen has a nice long list of sundaes and blizzards that are gluten free. I admit some of the gluten free baked things aren't so great, but ice cream...

ARCHIVED Seld Diagnosis Help
wowzer replied to Dinicoj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes Celiac Disease is hereditary. I do have a little sister that was diagnosed at a year old. I didn't find mine until I was 52. I have DH. Looking at my family, I am wondering if both my mother and father were just never diagnosed. I believe my mother had an uncle that was also diagnosed. I did think that the bread would be the hardest for me to overcome... -
ARCHIVED Strange Reactions From Medication
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All my life I've had many strange reactions from prescrition drugs. Things that knock most people out will keep me awake. Antiobiotics that didn't even seem to work. I am allergic to some and have gotten rashes. Tylenol has made my mouth itch and even made it feel like my throat was closing up. Nutrasweet numbs my tongue. I try to avoid taking anything... -
ARCHIVED Seld Diagnosis Help
wowzer replied to Dinicoj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like you are on the right track. Make sure that you are avoiding all gluten. (wheat, rye, oats, barley) If you are gluten intolerant, you can't go back to eating it. I have become even more sensitve to it since going gluten free. If you are feeling so much better from not eating it, why would you want to make yourself sick? I am also self diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED I Think My Doctor May Possibly Be An Idiot
wowzer replied to LisaN's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You only have to change your shampoo if it isn't gluten free. You do need to check your body wash, lotion, cosmetics, etc. too. -
ARCHIVED I Think My Doctor May Possibly Be An Idiot
wowzer replied to LisaN's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Lisa, I would be freaking out too if a doctor that claims she has a gluten problem and gives you that kind of advice. I know how you feel, I had the same thing happen to me with my gynecologist. I went to this man for 18 years only to find out he didn't know a thing about my condition. I was truly hurt, but have moved on. At least now you know what... -
ARCHIVED Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cakes
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many of Dairy Queen ice cream treats are gluten free. For some birthdays at work they get the ice cream cakes. I kept looking at them thinking if they didn't crush up those cookies and put them in the middle layer with the fudge, it would be gluten free. The owner is a customer where I work, so I asked to have a special order one for my grandson's birthday... -
Does anyone else's skin seem to get dryer as the cold weather comes or did I get glutened? My dry skin went away when I went gluten free. Now I'm really dry. It hasnt' even gotten that cold here yet.

I know many have other allergies on here on top of the gluten intolerance. I haven't went as far as to get tested, but I am debating doing the blood test. I take Singulair, so can't do the scratch test.

I'm supposed to go there for dinner tomorrow. It's a new one that hasn't been open too long.

ARCHIVED Erewhon Cereal?
wowzer replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just bought the Crispy Brown Rice cereal to try. I have had the one that has dried blueberries, raspberries and strawberries and like it. I'm hoping it tastes like rice krispies. -
ARCHIVED Tapioca Starch - Where To Buy
wowzer replied to elsie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Have you checked a health food store? I have one near me that is called Discount Nutrition. In fact I get a lot of my flours there because they are cheaper. -
ARCHIVED Do You Think It Will Work?
wowzer replied to mysterybaby's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had a little sister that was diagnosed as celiac at a year old. I can't remember when the belly went away. Seems like it was there for a few years, but it's so long ago. Are any of the symptoms going away? With all she has had going on it may take time for the swelling to go down. -
ARCHIVED Do We Need To Worry About Perfume Or Cologne?
wowzer replied to FootballFanatic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is something else that you have to watch. I saw a list somewhere, but recall where at the moment. I did check some at the time. I seem to remember Clinique was OK for some reason. -
I don't use the panty liners, etc. I have MRKH (no uterus) so I've never even had a period. I wear cotton underwear, use unscented soap. The rash kind of reminds me of years ago after an Aveno Bath. I was doing fine with Bath & Body Works White Rice & Shea Butter body wash. I'm out of it and tried the Mandarin Orange. Decided that could be the...

ARCHIVED I Knew It!
wowzer replied to LisaN's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Lisa, I'm glad to hear that you got an answer. Now you can work on feeling like a new person. Wendy -
Today was my birthday. My coworkers got me a dozen donuts from Celiac Specialties. I was so surprised. I had one person that had a donut with me. By the end of the day there were 5 left. With 7 people working it looks like they all tried. It surely made my day.

That sounds like an even better idea.

We do live and learn. I have done that with Tylenol with my children. I hope you feel better soon. Some things are so automatic. I'm sure next time you will think before you lick.

ARCHIVED Burning Skin
wowzer replied to woolwhippet's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not sure, but I'm kind of in the same boat here. I am assuming some how I got glutened. -
I'm glad to know that I'm not alone. I can only use one kind of toilet paper or I am miserable. It sure can be frustrating. If I have to break out in a rash from it, I wish it would find a place that wouldn't be so bad for a biopsy. I've had 2 in the female area and don't think I want to do that again. Let me know how your biopsy goes. Wendy
