wowzer posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a horrible night last night. I must have some how gotten glutened. I'm just not sure if it was from yesterday or the day before. I had horrible night sweats, I had to change my nightgown in the middle of the night. I havent' had that bad of a reaction since going gluten free the beginning of the year. That used to happen to me all the time pre... -
ARCHIVED Neurological Symptoms - Anyone Else?
wowzer replied to hollyres's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You aren't alone. I have been gluten free since the beginning of the year. I have become more and more sensitive to gluten now. It seems now even CC will get me. Thinking back I can remember having trouble getting words out, made me feel stupid. My eye used to twitch really bad. And my legs went nuts. Those symptoms went away after going gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Test Today
wowzer replied to chrissid7's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It sure must have been a shock to get the CF diagnosis. I remember growing up having a neighbor that had 2 children with it. I do know they don't absorb nutrients in food either. I have read bits and pieces about that disease over the years. I know they can do so much more for it now. I hope that you find some answers. Good Luck, Wendy -

ARCHIVED Bath & Body Works Body Cream
wowzer replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been using the rice and shea butter body wash. I did notice that a lot of the hand creams contain barley, but they seem to be clearly marked. -
I had itchy dry skin all of my life. I went gluten free the beginning of the year and my skin is so much better. I used to always itch after a shower, now I don't. I just wish I'd figured it out years ago. It is so nice not to itch all of the time. I will say if I get glutened, I may get a few itchy spots, but at least it isn't so intense.

That is awesome Martha. It should be interesting to see what happens for my birthday where I work. I put 2.00 in every 2 weeks to a fund. I think I'm getting ripped off because I can't eat what any of them choose when it's their birthday. We do get to choose what we want, but now we have a new employee that shares my birthday. I was thinking about maybe...

ARCHIVED More Cheesecake Suggestions
wowzer replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have had the vanilla wafer in a cheesecake cupcake before gluten free. Another idea is to make a "crustless cheesecake". I posted a marbled one on this site. It was baked in a big pie plate. -
I checked their website before I went. Many of the soups and salads are gluten free. Just remember to ask for the apple or the chips for your side. I have had a couple of their salads with no problem. I do admit I sure miss that Asiago roast beef sandwich though. Good Luck

ARCHIVED Oh Nuts Glutened Me
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was so happy to find cashews roasted in canola oil. Peanut oil and I don't get along. It took me 3 days trying to figure out what glutened me. I finally read the print on the bag underneath and of course manufactured on equipment that also processed wheat, peanuts etc. On top of it I had bought pecans. Same note underneath. I made some muffins with... -
ARCHIVED It's The Little Things...
wowzer replied to JustMeInMD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had great success with Fearns rice baking mix. They have a muffin recipe on the side of the box that makes 6. I have become quite creative. I've used maple syrup, pecans and cinnamon. I've also done mini chocolate chips. Another dried cranberries and nuts. I've used applesauce and nuts. I've also done blueberry. -
Paper Towels And Toilet Paper
wowzer replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Funny you brought up this subject. Just came back from vacation itching. I'm thinking the cause was the toilet paper. The only toilet paper I can use is Charmin ultra. Anything else and i'm miserable. I did email and find out that Puffs Plus is gluten free. -

The doctor told me to take calcium. What is the best gluten free ones to take? -
My vacation is 9 days. I do wonder how I will deal with my breaks at work. I will have to work on healthy snacks. I can afford to gain a few pounds anyway. I am now working on cutting back. I have a couple of weeks until vacation time.

My doctor did give me the Lame Advertisement. I have had so many weird drug reactions, I'm afraid to try it. A part of me doesn't want to deal with the side effects, but I know I have to. I just know it's time to quit this stupid habit.

I don't know if it has a link to celiac disease. I also have had pleuresy a couple of times. I suppose with a compromised immune system anything is possible.

Also check your cosmetics, body wash, soap, shampoo, lotion. Many of these contain gluten. I hope that you are feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Nature Valley Roasted Nut Crunch
wowzer posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was excited to find this with the granola bars. I saw almond crunch and peanut crunch. I did check the General Mills website and didn't see them on there. A nice short list of ingredients: almonds, peanuts, sunflower seeds, sugar, corn syrup and salt. I bought the almond ones. I do wish they had no peanuts. -
ARCHIVED Can You Trace Celiac Through Your Family Tree?
wowzer replied to ItchyMeredith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is a good question. I have a little sister that was diagnosed with celiac at a year old. I know an uncle of my Mom's I think also had celiac. I think I may have DH, but don't have an official diagnosis. I went gluten free the beginning of the year and had great results. I wonder about my father, he was always in the bathroom after every meal. ... -
I've been thinking how to quit smoking. I know I need to. I did get a prescription for something from my doctor, but don't want to take it. Any time that I've tried to quit I just sleep. I'm thinking I will try on my vacation which is the beginning of August. I know it is such a stupid expensive habit. I know this is so much easier said than done. ...
