  1. Poor baby. I hope she gets well soon.
  2. How about some form of already cooked beans for breakfast? An example would by refried beans heated in a corn tortilla. Anything that is gluten free is fair game for any meal in my household. Eggs for dinner or chili for breakfast.
  3. I agree with the other posts, you should consider getting a new job. In the mean time, if you don't do this already you might consider keeping a small backpack (maybe more than one) with you at all times that is filled with gluten free food non-parishable food. Set a day each week to refill the backpack(s) when you think you will have time. I am...
  4. I use Enrico's Pizza Sauce. It is labeled Gluten Free on the back of the jar. The other possibility is the mozerella cheese if was cut in the store's deli department. The slicer could be contaminated. I only eat cheese that is packaged. I like Boar's Head cheese and Land o' Lakes. Hope you find the cause of the gluten.
  5. When I was in the hospital for one day in August there was a menu. All I had to do was call and order off the menu. I had most of my food with me but I did order whole fruit, milk, an empty bowl and a spoon. I liked this arrangement because I could decide what to eat and not someone else.
  6. In Southern California, where Disneyland is and where I live, the mainstream grocery stores do not carry gluten free foods breads, crackers etc.... One option is to rent a motorhome and stock up on gluten free foods at WholeFoods right after your visit to Disneyland and visit one or more of the National Parks in the Southwest, if you have time. If this...
  7. Wouldn't touch it. I think this is the warning now required on food product to warn against the most common allergies.
  8. Depends on what the warning said. Did the warning say it was produced in a plant or on equipment that also processes wheat? Some people can tolerate products made this way and some can not.
  9. Wheat Free is not necessarily gluten free. Always read the ingredients. In my experience most products labeled "Wheat Free" are not gluten free but is always worth checking.
  10. I usually bring my own food. I ask when I get to the wedding reception if there is a place I can put my food until it is time to eat. I use a soft sided lunch box or soft sided can cooler with blue ice mats to hold my meal. When it is time to eat I get a plate and silverware from the caterer and eat with everyone else. If anyone asks, I simply explain...
  11. I am not sure if this will help or applies to your work. Below is a website and the part that relates to work breaks. I found it by searching the internet. I have no personal knowelege of the labor laws in the U.K. Open Original Shared Link If a worker is required to work for more than six hours at a stretch, he or she is entitled to a rest break...
  12. That's what prompted me to contact them. I had never seen straw in the strawberry fields in Southern CA or on any of my trips to the Santa Cruz/Watsonville area in Northern CA. Based on the other websites I looked at, straw is sometimes used in the colder sections of the country over the winter to keep the plants warm.
  13. I agree. When I am speaking to someone I follow Lonewolf's example. I explain I can not have wheat, oats, rye or barley and that it will make me very ill. Yes, every once in a while I do need to educate someone that white flour is made from wheat or that most soy sauce contains wheat. For the majority of the people reading labels is not on their list...
  14. I have seen soy milk at Costco. I think the brand was Silk. I don't drink soy milk so I am not sure if this brand is gluten free. Costco has a good selection of meat, fish and poulty. The selection of fruit varies by the season. The only fruit I almost always see is apples. The vegetables are limited in variety although they alway have bagged salad...
  15. Lisa, I am sorry to here that the university didn't follow through on it's agreement to allow you two semesters to improve your grades. I don't have any advice on dealing with the university. The only thing I can give you is the experience I've had with schools in general with my son who has Asperger's and Tourettes. I found that I had to match the...
  16. Just a warning, when I went to the grocery store to buy Rice Chex I found both old (gluten) and new (gluten free) mixed together on the shelf. Double check those ingredients before you buy.
  17. I agree with jerseyangel. I took a quick look at the website. The book intended for people who are not already diagnosed and are searching for a reason they are sick. Since only a small percent of people with Celiac are diagnosed the book may assist some people in regaining their health. Although, I am concerned that some people will give up the gluten...
  18. Yep, I have heard the "White flour does not have wheat" more times than I can count. Yes, many people are ignorant of what they are eating. I found a new one the other day. I bought a diabetic cookbook to assist in cooking for my husband. It has a "Flourless Chocolate Cake" receipe. The fifth ingredient is "1 cup of all-purpose flour". The receipe...
  19. He did a super job.
  20. I usually start with "I can not eat wheat, oats, rye or barley. These foods will make me very sick". In dealing with food service I let them draw there own conclusions which is generally allergy. People who I will be dealing with on a regular basis get a basic explanation of celiac and and gluten intolerance.
  21. Your welcome. I'll toss out another couple of more options that may or may not work for you: 1) Look into transfering to a school with traditional calendar. Summer employment will be much easier to locate. 2) Apply at employement agencies that supply temporary help. These jobs would be mainly clerical (Examples are filling, accounting clerk...
  22. I have had pretty good luck with gluten free meals on airlines. I have had only on instance where the meal did not arrive. I have read in other posts that you should check with the flight attendant when you get on the plane so the meal is not given to someone else. I always bring enough food to get through the flight just in case the meal does not...
  23. Have you looked into the summer positons available for the local school districts? I know in my district the Pre-K special education programs run most of the summer. Another idea is to get permanent part time job where the hours increase during the summer and decrease during the school year. Where I live this would include theme parks (Disneyland, California...
  24. Below is the information for Pacific Foods website (www.pacificnaturalfoods.com) Organic Vegetable Broth Organic Vegetable Broth is made from simmering organic carrots, celery, tomatoes, onions, leeks and garlic with just the right amount of salt for a rich broth flavor. Certified to the Source
  25. You might consider limiting your eating our or not eating out at all. This is what I generally do on car trips. I pre-make dinners in advance and freeze them in single servings. I also bring along cold breakfast (gluten free bars, fruit, and cereal) and lunch fixings such as gluten free bread, PB & J, and gluten free lunch meat. I also bring along...
