  1. Eating out also needs to be addressed. If you don't want her to eat out make sure they know. You could also send printouts of gluten free menus from various restaurants with instructions on how to order if you are comfortable with this.
  2. I buy Annie's ketchup. It is labled gluten free on the bottle. I find it at WholeFoods.
  3. IMO no food is worth eating if it makes me sick. Based on your description gluten makes you sick. Your choice is to eat gluten and get sick or stay gluten free healthy. Listen to your wife and your body.
  4. Check with the company that makes PrimaCare One. If the information is not on the website call them. Another option is to look for a prenatal vitamin that you know is gluten free. I only buy vitamins that say "Gluten Free" on the bottle. Costco has a prenatal that I believe is gluten free. Check the back of the bottle. Also, look at Nature Made vitamins...
  5. Thanks for the recipe.
  6. I am also interested. I would like the receipe for Tortilla Soup.
  7. I only use natural peanut butter (nuts and salt only). I also have my own jar which no one else uses so it can not be contaminated.
  8. I would toss hot dogs and baked beans in microwave oven. Another alternative is to cook in the morning when it is cool and reheat in the evening for dinner.
  9. I agree with the other posters. Keep your diet to simple natural foods for now, avoid starchs soy and dairy for now. Gluten free starches are higher in carbohydrates than gluten starches. After you have been gluten free for several months and have your blood sugar under control you should be able to start adding starches, soy and dairy back slowly...
  10. It is always best to have a gluten free household. Your wonderful family has made the offer to eat gluten free, take it. They can eat gluten outside to house. You do not need a health food store to eat gluten free. Simply replace bread and pasta with rice, corn and potatoes. I eat spagetti sauce and chili over rice. Other example of meals are stuffed...
  11. when I go someplace new I use Mapquest directions to get an idea of how far and how long between places. I locate the addresses of places in the area that have gluten free foods or menus. To locate local health food stores I use the store locator area of specialty gluten free products. I tuse he store locator for chains that I know carry gluten free...
  12. Happy Birthday.
  13. I very rarely bake and only cook on the weekend. I cook meals and make sure I have lots of leftovers on the weekend and eat them for lunch and diner throughout the week. Also, there are some quick and easy meals such as: Microwave canned baked beans with hot dogs Microwave corn tortilla pizza Microwave baked potato PBJ on rice cakes or gluten free...
  14. Cara, If you fly to Canada you can precook and freeze meals in single servings. I do this. I freeze the meals in plastic containers from the Container Store ( Link at end of post). I pack the meals in a soft sided cooler meant for cans surronded by blue ice mats. I put the cooler in a suit case and check it. One word of caution, you will need to...
  15. In my household we have a sandwich making station outside of the kitchen. It includes an apartment size refrigerator (I think it is about 15 cubic feet). In addition to keeping the gluten out of the kitchen one of the side benefits is extra refrigerator and freezer space. If you can find room having two refrigerators may help you. The station also has...
  16. I use only cat food that is gluten free. I use the micorwave at work but only with the food/drink covered and a new papertowel underneath. I would prefer to have my own microwave at my desk but fire regulations do not permit any appliances that heat. Is it possible that someone else is using your toaster without you knowing about it? If I were able...
  17. I only cook gluten free. My son and husband are not gluten free. Gluten bread, muffins, and cookies are bought at the bakery. Gluten pizza comes from the pizza parlor. All gluten products are kept outside the kitchen.

    ARCHIVED Vinegar

I use plain rice vineger. You can find it in most grocery stores.
  19. No clue if gray hair is related to Celiac or not. My grandmother was completely gray by 25, my mother by 30. I am the one with Celiac and I did not start getting grey hair until my late 30's. I am 50 now and still only about 30% gray. At least in my family there is not a relationship.
  20. Look into the possibility of having your own dedicated mircowave oven. Below is a link to a very very small mircowave oven. It is big enough for a cup of coffee, a bowl or soup or a small container. Since this is an American product you would also need a converter to convert the electricity and a plug adaptor. Open Original Shared Link My suggestions...
  21. Check the Travel section of the forum for coping strategies for travel. It takes some planning and research to travel but it can be done. You won't be abe to enjoy all the local food but you will be able to enjoy the culture and sites. I have found the best way to travel is to stay where you have cooking facilities. This has lead to different cultural...
  22. As long as the food is solid it's ok. DON'T bring liquid or gel like substances. No drinks, pudding, yogurt ect.... I put it in a soft sided lunch box in my carry-on. If you want to keep things cold bring along some ziplock bags and ask at one of the food places that they be filled 1/2 way with ice. Since the flight is so long you can ask the flight...
  23. I think you are incorrect about "never hearing the end of it". I have found after a brieft explanation that most people are accepting about my restricted diet and what I need to do to stay well. None of my colleagues want me to be sick. Very rarely have I been teased. I would rather deal with the risk of being teased than being sick. Also, by being...
  24. Below are the several coping strategies: 1) Have a cold meal with you at all times. Something like chicken, salad. ect... Join your co-workers and simply pull out your meal. 2) Same as above but only a parital meal. Sometimes I bring along cold chicken and order a baked potato, a salad (made in clean bowl) and a drink. 3) Research restuarants...
  25. If in doubt leave it out. I tend to pick products with very few simple straight forward ingredients. If it is not a company I know discloses gluten on the label I will generally leave it on the shelf if I can not identify all the ingredients as gluten free. However, sometimes I will buy the product and bring it home and research it. If it is not gluten...
