ARCHIVED Food Ideas For Moving
Phyllis28 replied to kickboxer's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I agree with gfgypsyqueen about locating hotels with kitchens. Some are: Residence Inn by Marriott Townplace Suites by Marriott Extended Stay America Homestead Suites When I travel by car and know I have a kitchen on the other end I pack the cooler with Precooked meals that I have frozen. All I have to do in microwave them. Also, take along... -
Another option is to rent a room with a kitchen. I have been thinking about a trip to Paris. The results of my internet searches show that there are apartments and flats available for weekly rental. The price is about the same or only a little be higher than a hotel room. The major difference is most of the time they need to rented for a week and there...

ARCHIVED Doc Said I Should Find Gluten Free Sugar....?
Phyllis28 replied to MELINE's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My box of C&H Pure Cane sugar (granulated white) only has one ingredient - Sugar. Sugar is gluten free. Always read the ingredients though just in case something else has been added. -
I agree, I travel for business, though I do not entertain clients. I regularly bring all or some of my lunch with me. If there is someone new I make a simple explanation such as "I can not eat wheat, oats, rye or barley" or "I am on a medically restricted diet", change the subject and move on. Aim to make a good impression with who you are not what...

There is one more option to kbtoyssni's list. Your daughter and son-in-law can skip the rehearsal dinner. In, my opinion the future MIL, showed very bad judgement the rehearsal dinner venue. She chose it for herself and did not consider the couple being honored. If the new MIL is not willing to accomadate your daughter, then is my opinion you daughter...

ARCHIVED Contiki Tour Through Great Britian
Phyllis28 replied to Prairie Girl's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Another option is to ask the tour operator to supply you with a list of the hotels and food establishments providing the food. You would then be able to contact them directly as to whether they can provide you a gluten free alternative. -
ARCHIVED Rice Chex Is Now Gluten Free!
Phyllis28 replied to cruelshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm going to buy a box and see if I get my husband to eat it. It would be nice to get the gluten cereal out of the house. My son happily eats Cocoa Pebbles. -
ARCHIVED Kidney Disease And Gluten Intolerance
Phyllis28 replied to libbyann's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Below is some information I found on the website for National Kidney Foundation: Open Original Shared Link The site did recommend seeing a renal dietician. Based on a quick review of the information I think you might want to consider removing most processed food from your diet. -
ARCHIVED Barley Grass Powder?
Phyllis28 replied to agentmm's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If in doubt leave it out. I have seen discussion on the board about Barley Grass. In theory, it is supposed to be ok because it is cut before it the barley has sprouted. Whether this can actually be accomplished is in question. I will not eat anything with barley grass. -
Congrats!!!!!

The best thing to do is take the household totally gluten free. An alternative is to take the kitchen gluten free. I am the one with Celiac and I do the cooking. After many years of sharing the kitchen with my gluten eating husband I finally tossed him out. He has his own "sandwich" making station outside the kitchen. It includes an apartment size refrigerator...

ARCHIVED It's A Pain, But Not The End Of The World...
Phyllis28 replied to mrsry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had my share of comments over the years. In addition to the comments already covered I have received comments like "You poor thing". I know the comments such as this are meant to be console. For these kinds of comments I do take the time to explain that this is the way I need to eat to stay healthy and it does not bother me. I agree kbtoyssni... -
ARCHIVED Grocery Store Visit
Phyllis28 replied to scott-in-pa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Both WholeFoods (expensive) and TraderJoe's have lists of the gluten free products in the store. WholeFoods has a good selection of specialty gluten free foods. You have to ask for them at customer service. I still read all the labels though. -
I was diagnosed many years ago without a biopsy or a blood test (it did not exist). Dietary response was the confirmation that the diagnosis was correct. I have no interest in eating gluten just to "be sure" I have Celiac. I know it gluten me sick. The decision is yours to go gluten free and not have a biopsy or not. If you want the biopsy one way...

I think the success of the business also depends on the income levels and population in the surrounding area. Specialty Gluten free food is expensive and it is possible to eat gluten free without it. I had to do this for many years because what was available in specialty gluten free foods was limited, not readily available and most of it was not worth eating...

ARCHIVED Inexperienced Newbie Got Glutened @ Red Lobster
Phyllis28 replied to Sissy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I bring my own salad dressing for salads and only ask of butter on my baked potato. I also, try to stay with restaurants that have a gluten free menu. I am a very loyal customer. Longhorn has a gluten free menu on their website. I printed it out and brought it with me and did not have any problems. I find this process works well with restaurants that... -
ARCHIVED I Would Appreciate Advice About Beano.
Phyllis28 replied to nikki2008's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The last time I read the ingredients on Beano they included wheat, and therefore not gluten free. Beano can not be used at all. I spoke to the manufacturer of Gas-X (Novartis Consumer Heath) last. They told me that the Chewable Gas-X is gluten free and the Extra Strength (green) Softgel have not been tested for gluten but no gluten is knowingly added... -
ARCHIVED Envirokidz Cerial
Phyllis28 replied to Lollipop's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yep, gotta read the ingredients on everything. I found Wheat Crackers with the gluten free food last week at WholeFoods. I brought it to customer services atttention. You can not assume it is gluten free if it is with the rest of the gluten free food. The people who stock the grocery shelves don't know enough about a gluten free diet to get it right all... -
Below are my suggestions, good, bad or indifferent: 1) Check to see if the water is safe if you boil it. If it is make sure you get the instructions for how long to boil the water. 2) Check to see if there are any products that can be added to the water to make it safe. I am thinking of the kind hikers use where there is no running water. 3)...

Thank you for the link. I booked marked it so I can check on the eagle each day.

My favorite Costco purchase is the pre-cooked hot roasted chicken. It say gluten free on the label. I check each time I buy it just in case the ingredients change. I add a dinner salad and rice for a quick dinner.

I have been to the Sensitive Baker in Culver City. The gluten free baked goods are great. If you go there try the Kaiser Rolls. The website is below: Open Original Shared Link They are open to the public for very limited hours. I believe it is from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and are closed on Saturday. If you want to go there I would advise you contact...
