  1. Your welcome. If you go to customer service and ask most WholeFoods can print you out a list of gluten free products in the store. I know the Tustin WholeFoods does this because I got the list. I am not sure about the one in El Segundo. You will have to contact them by e-mail to find out.
  2. I love my crock pot. I like dinner being ready with a minimal amount of fuss in the evening. I make extra and freeze or refrigerate the extra in single servings. I will list some of my quick and easy meals, although they may not be healthy enough for you but you maybe able to adapt them. Pizza - Corn tortillas, Enrico's (or other gluten free...
  3. Going out to eat: Disney is very good about gluten free. Contact Disney and ask if gluten free meals are available in "Downtown Disney". This is outside the park. Other places with gluten free menus are - Outback, Chick-fil-a, Wendy's and Pei Wei. I have found it best to bring along a print out from the restaurant website of the gluten free options...
  4. Sounds like a good idea. One other thing, in my opinion, you need to check your states laws and determine if you need to become a "licensed child care" provider.
  5. Maybe I should count my blessings that neither my son nor my husband know how to use the oven or stove top.
  6. The doctor does not know what he is talking about when he says "Celiac doesn't cause pain". I suggest you locate your Celiac local support group and ask if they have any recommendations for GIs. I did this when I was looking for a GI to do a routine screening colonoscopy. Also, check with the Universities in the area that have medical schools. The...
  7. I pack my lunch for work 5 days a week. For me, leftovers are the key to eating lunch. I make extra when I cook and package them into single portion meals. I reheat them in the microwave at work. Also, I use a large softsided lunchbox or softsided can cooler for lunch. I put in BlueIce Mats to keep everything cold. That way I have everything at my...
  8. For those who wrote that you were too sick to go to school it might be possible for the school district to send teachers to your home. You or your parents would have to contact the school district to find out if this service is provided and, if available, the eligibilty requirements and how to apply. Hope all of you feel better very soon.
  9. It is never too late to get an education. When you are feeling better you might consider checking with your school district. Most districts should be able to direct you to an adult school or courses to study for the GED. You can also check with your local community college. Where I live as long as you are 19 years old you can enroll without a High...
  10. Dairy is naturally gluten free. It is your choice to eliminate dairy or not and in what quantities. It is my understanding, from other posts, that the tips of the villi is where dairy is digested. If your villi have been flattened by celiac then dairy could cause problems until healing takes place. I eat dairy without any problems. Someone else...
  11. If you plan to have a biopsy you need to continue to eat gluten. A biopsy can still be negative at this point because celiac can be patchy or you could be gluten intolerent only. One advantage to a biopsy is the doctor can look for other diseases at the same time. A gluten free trial is a valid way to determine if gluten is making you sick. A biopsy...
  12. Look for Mission Soft corn tortillas and tortilla chips. I am not sure if they are available in your area though.
  13. Posted by Shayesmom: It's been nearly 2 months and the teacher still doesn't have the info for me... My son was in special education from the 2nd grade thru 12th grade. I found that a written request got fast action than a verbal one. If you have not already done so, write a letter to the teacher requesting a 504 plan in XX days and copy the school...
  14. I have not been on Weight Watchers but I did have to eat a very low fat diet prior to having my gallbladder removed. I did not find any edible replacement for hard cheese. Take a look at the spreadable cheeses such as Laughing Cow lite for less fat. As for the others, you might try replacing the low fat versions with fat free versions one at at time. I...
  15. Sending you and your Auntie Hugs.
  16. Make plans prior to the lunch rush if possible. Some of the options are: 1) Bring your own meal and order a drink. I usually bring a salad. I never bring anything that the restaurant has to hear for me. You can eat when everyone else does and you save a bunch of money. 2) Contact the restaurants everyone goes to on a regular basis and speak...
  17. My response is from the perspective of almost 30 years gluten free: 1) Everything will get easier overtime as you incorporate coping strategies into your life. 2) I disassociate food from social interaction. I simply make the necessary arrangements so I am fed. Example: I attended the Christmas Potluck for the company. I brought my own food. ...
  18. One option is to call the hotel and ask to speak with the head chef. Explain the gluten free dietary restrictions and ask what the hotel can provide. Regardless of the answer I would suggest you bring along the following in addition to the bars: Rice Cakes and/or gluten free bread A jar of peanut butter A jar of jelly Gluten free salad dressing...
  19. I also have never been given grief about my diet. I explain that I am on a medically restricted diet and that if I eat wheat, oats, rye or barley I will get very sick. I have also read many of these posts. Is it possible that some of these people see this as interfering with their life or are unable to accept someone different and therefore make life...
  20. A WholeFoods opened near us several months ago. I purchase frozen Glutino Pizza Crust for the first time. I did not see any directions how to prepare the crust. Should I defrost it before I cook it? Do you heat it in the oven before you put the pizza fixings on top?
  21. Most of the options people have listed were not available when I was diagnosed nearly 30 years ago. What was available was only on the edge of edible. I am not much of a baker so I chose the option to live without bread substiutes. I eat salads and left overs when the average person would eat a sandwich. I usually use rice cakes and corn tortillas in...
  22. My liver enzymes were raised because of my gallbladder. They returned to normal after I had my gallbladder removed.
  23. The Rice Almond bread is very dense. It is best for open face heated sandwiches like turkey or tuna melts. I have never tried to grill it but I have put just cheese on one piece and microwaved it. I like the taste but is it very different from regular bread. IMO, Kinnikinnick white sandwich bread would make a good grilled cheese sandwich.
  24. Nice to here you are settling in and have quiet neighbors. Looking forward to seeing your pictures.
