There is a TJ's in Petaluma but I don't buy much from them. We have other allergies and there is just too much cross contamination with their food.

ARCHIVED Kamut Being Labeled As Gluten Free?
Juliebove replied to RIMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't see it either. There's also a cereal with a Lemur that doesn't say Gluten Free. Perhaps some store mislabed it as gluten-free? -

ARCHIVED Allergen Free Foods
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We just tried the cornbread and it was excellent! Not the overly sweet kind. And it held together. I have tried to make it from mixes without using eggs and it has never worked, or tasted good. I'll be ordering this again and soon. -
Wow! That is tough. I eat the pumpkin seed bars from Goraw. In a pinch, they will work for a meal. They make some other bars, but I don't like the fruit and stuff that is in them. Another option would be trail mix that you make yourself. I used to make my own with nuts, seeds, coconut and sometimes chocolate chips. Have you tried asking the hotel...

ARCHIVED Cheetos - Ugh, Anyone Else Have A Problem With These?
Juliebove replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We buy Tings because they are dairy free. Daughter loves them and they are gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Buttermilk Question
Juliebove replied to hrly169's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Do you need something dairy free? I don't really have an answer. Just wanting to clarify. -
ARCHIVED Allergen Free Foods
Juliebove posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I needed some more faux parmesan cheese. There's is wonderful! Looks, smells and tastes just like the real thing. It's beef based. I love their other cheeses as well, but I think there is too much fat in them for my stomach or something. They don't seem to set well with me. So I will stick to rice cheese for my other dishes. I noticed that they now... -
We finally were able to go to the Bothell location. Never again! The place was packed, although not to the point of people spilling outside. Were told it would be a 15 minute wait but was more like 2 minutes. Waitress came quickly to take our order. Daughter had a milkshake and I had a Diet Coke. We got those right away. Once again there was a...

ARCHIVED Shopping For The First Time....
Juliebove replied to angelschick's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't think it gets easier in terms of prepared foods because you still have to read all labels all the time. Every time I buy something without checking the label, it seems that it now contains an allergen. Just don't do what I did. I ran out and bought every kind of gluten-free flour and baking additive and every gluten-free product I could find... -
ARCHIVED Canned Mushrooms - What Gives?
Juliebove replied to 006's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy canned mushrooms occasionally. I believe the brand is usually Festival. We don't use a lot of them. Mostly I use fresh or dried mushrooms because I think they taste better. I got a huge canister of dried ones at Costco. I hope they still have some because I need more! -
ARCHIVED How Many Gluten Free Stores Have Failed?
Juliebove replied to MrJibbs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My health food store is owned by a celiac and they advertise as "Your gluten-free Headquarters". They don't sell fresh produce, but they are a drop point for weekly boxes from a local CSA. They do cater to everyone and will order anything they can for you. I get my rice cheese there and also some coconut yogurt. Although they do prefer to have foods that... -
ARCHIVED Baking Supplies
Juliebove replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I put coconut flour, flax and other seeds in the refrigerator, but the rest of the flours are stored at room temp. unless it says otherwise on the package. I try to buy small quanties because we don't use a lot of this stuff. -
ARCHIVED I Want To Own A Gluten Free Rest.
Juliebove replied to puggirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
It had Seattle in the name but I believe it was really in Edmonds. Hard to say because I used to live in that area and I know it was right on/near the boundary lines. -
ARCHIVED How To Thicken Gravy?
Juliebove replied to angelschick's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use sweet rice flour. -
Thanks! I've never been to a Whole Foods, but I hear they are expensive. We lived in Alameda for a few years. We didn't have a Whole Foods there and they were just building the Trader Joe's as we left. I remember driving by Whole Foods but we were always on our way to some place and couldn't stop.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Cereal
Juliebove replied to roxie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My daughter likes Trix, Fruity and Coca Pebbles, and some chocolate cereal in a bag put out by Safeway. I want to say Cocoa Astros or something like that. She has tried the coconut yogurt by So Delicous and loves the vanilla and raspberry. For a frozen dessert, she likes Coconut Bliss. -
ARCHIVED Britney Spears' Son Has Food .. Gluten?
Juliebove replied to actualize81's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Indeed. My daughter used to be a lot more emotional before we knew of her food allergies. She would get depressed and say things like, "I wished God hadn't maked me..." Or that she didn't feel like herself. She could never really explain it. She would also throw temper tantrums for no apparent reason. It was very frustrating. Now she will have occasional... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Own A Gluten Free Rest.
Juliebove replied to puggirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
We had one here for a while, but it wasn't any good. Oh the food tasted good. That wasn't the problem. The service was lousy and slow and there were constant screwups. If you had any additional allergies, this wasn't the place to go. Worse yet, the owner lied to us about what the food contained. I couldn't figure out why my daughter kept getting sick... -
ARCHIVED What To Do With The Holiday Leftovers
Juliebove replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We don't have a lot of leftovers. Normally we have dinner at my parent's house. My mom does one turkey, then some additional legs because my brother, nephew and husband all prefer those pieces. My brother and I bring side dishes and desserts. If anything there are leftover desserts. For some reason, they seem to like a lot of variety with desserts. ... -
ARCHIVED Worried About Toddler Calories, Need Formula?
Juliebove replied to formykiddo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you tried any of the hemp or nut milks? How about coconut milk? Does she like avocado? My daughter never did. It's high in calories and it was recommended to me, but she would never touch the stuff. You could try adding a dab of olive oil to her food for extra calories. -
It could be the humidity in the air. My husband's aunt and cousin used to work for a bakery. The cousin was asked to move to another part of the country and open a pizza place, but she refused to do it. She said it would take too long for her to get the dough right. She said the air in a place had a lot to do with it.

ARCHIVED Children's Cupcake Maker Has Gluten Free Mixes
Juliebove replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Seriously!? Daughter saw it and was upset because she would be allergic to the cupcakes, but if they are gluten-free...this might be good. Of course she goes have other allergies. Okay, I just looked this up and the mixes are processed in a facility that also processes wheat. Plus you don't apparently use the device to bake it. They bake in the microwave... -
ARCHIVED Learning To Cook Gluten Free
Juliebove replied to Kit.DaMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You might try corn or quinoa pasta or a combination thereof. I find different pastas work better for different things. The Old Spaghetti Factory serves a corn pasta. Very good, but doesn't taste like a wheat pasta. I also like corn pasta in things like minestrone soup. Tinkyada is a very good pasta, but I sometimes buy others. I like the quinoa/rice... -
ARCHIVED Condensed Cream Of Mushroom Soup
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay. I can't remember what is in those two foods, but I think it is something one of us is allergic to. Will look again though. I just looked up the Funyuns and they contain buttermilk. So not suitable for a dairy free diet. Also contain soy protein. Yuck!
