ARCHIVED Soy Free And Canola Free Cereals.
Juliebove replied to BrainStorm-wow's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This one (note that it is not gluten-free) looks okay. Open Original Shared Link Or this (again not gluten-free). Open Original Shared Link Or this. Open Original Shared Link You might also check your health food store. I know I have bought some corn flakes for daughter that were fine. Nature's Path does make some but they could contain... -
ARCHIVED What Protein To Feed A Vegan?
Juliebove replied to one more mile's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Beans! Doesn't have to be soy. There are black, kidney, canelli, chickpeas, pinto, small red, all kinds. Peas contain protein too. Bean dip. Hummus. Then there are nuts and seeds. Chia seeds are high in protein and go well in smoothies or just made into a gel and eaten as is. You can make faux cheese out of nuts. Sprouts are high in protein... -
ARCHIVED Threelac Probiotics For Candida
Juliebove replied to lisa25's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My naturopath advises it, but I never tried it because if I recall correctly it seemed complicated and there was a diet that went along with it that seemed even more complicated. I bought Candex. It seems to work for me. I bought it at Fred Meyer but I have also bought it online. It's vegetarian and free of all common allergens. Hmmm... It does say... -
We have not had a problem with them. But I can see how cross contamination could happen.

ARCHIVED Ian's Chicken Nuggets Are Gross. Any Suggestions?
Juliebove replied to hadabaday2day's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My daughter won't eat Ian's nuggets either. I love them, but then I don't usually like chicken nuggets. -
Now this is neither Chinese, nor a pie. I did look it up and there was some kind of explanation at Wikepedia about translation from French or something. At any rate, it is good! I used this recipe modified. Open Original Shared Link I used more ground beef, onion and peppers. In fact my crock-pot was quite full but it really cooked down. I used...

ARCHIVED Thyroid And Soy
Juliebove replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I stopped all soy protein and my thyroid problems went away. I don't know about soy fiber. Don't know of anything that uses it. I do use some things with soy lecithin but will use without if a product without is available. I don't use soybean oil at home and I don't buy too many things that contain it because I know it is used in restaurants so I am getting... -
ARCHIVED Bread Without Xanthum Gum, Is It Possible
Juliebove replied to fran641's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This recipe is quick, good and doesn't require xanthan gum. Alas, you don't seem to have all of the ingredients, but maybe for future use... This is not my recipe. I got it from the celiac newsgroup. I usually add a tiny bit of olive oil to it. Makes it richer. Microwave Rice Bread 1/2 cup rice flour 1 heaping teaspoon glutenous rice... -
Hmmm... Mom is allergic to chicken. Do you think beef broth would work?

ARCHIVED You May Already Know About The Mercury In Fillings...
Juliebove replied to mr. moore's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Cilantro isn't spicy. If you like it, you'll think it has a "fresh" taste to it. It's really good in fresh salsa or sprinkled on Mexican foods. However, some people think it tastes like soap. I tried growing my own herbs and while I always liked cilantro, I did NOT like the stuff I grew. It tasted like soap! For the first time, I knew what those cilantro... -
My mom is allergic to chicken and that seemed on the surface to be an easy one to avoid, but in looking at recipes, apparently not. Chicken broth is used in all kinds of things where I wouldn't think it would be. Like Mexican rice, salsa verde and some soups. Even bean soup! The more recipes I look at the more worried I become. I am allergic to dairy...

ARCHIVED Athletic W/o Gluten/meat?
Juliebove replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Sports and Fitness
I was a vegetarian for many years. I feel better when I don't eat any meat, but I tend to get anemia so now I eat some sometimes but most of my meals are still vegetarian. Tonight's dinner, Ener-G rice pizza shell with olive oil, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, rice cheese and a side of black eyed peas for more protein. Beans and rice, beans and gluten... -
I need to figure out where the one is near me. It says Bothell/Woodinville. I live in Bothell, but am very close to Mill Creek so I spend most of my time out that direction. I wonder if they would deliver to where we live? We are eating pizza tonight on Ener-G rice crust. It works for me because I can put rice cheese on it, but if daughter could have...

Might this be possible? I've been making enchilada casserole in the crockpot with various recipes and just made one in the oven last night. I layer corn tortillas, cooked ground beef and some kind of sauce. I sometimes buy the canned gluten-free stuff, or tomato sauce with seasonings, but last night I used jarred salsa. I loved it and husband seemed to...

ARCHIVED Children's Cupcake Maker Has Gluten Free Mixes
Juliebove replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Against my better judgement, Santa brought this for daughter. She was less than thrilled upon opening it, saying, "Isn't that the thing that got the bad reviews?" She looked at the box with one eyebrow raised, that eye big and the other eye little. Sort of pushed it aside. Left it until she had opened and played with all the other toys. Then became bored... -
ARCHIVED Please Help: Chickenpox And Oatmeal Bath
Juliebove replied to staceyh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can make your own with gluten-free oatmeal. Simply powder it up using a Magic Bullet, blender or mortar and pestle. But be careful when he gets out of the bath! This mixture will make the tub very slippery. -
ARCHIVED Food Allergies
Juliebove replied to dollamasgetceliac?'s topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Daughter and I have IgG allergies, not IgE. Testing is not a mysterious science. It simply involves a skin prick and/or blood test. We don't cook everything from scratch, but we do cook most things. I use my crock pot a lot. I cook a lot of chicken and ground beef. Sometimes turkey. We also have vegan meals. Our allergies are not as extensive... -
My husband did pick them up for me but once again got the car stuck trying to get into the driveway. He finally got it in.

ARCHIVED Rat Or Mouse In Garage
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We had squirrels in our apartment building in NY. Luckily we had the bottom apartment so not a bother to us, but the people upstairs sure complained. They finally did something about it after we moved out. -
We still haven't gotten our Christmas presents in the mail and now Terminex can't even schedule an appointment for us. Just too much snow. I really need to get my insulin, needles and meds.

ARCHIVED I Got A Magic Bullet For Christmas
Juliebove replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't use mine often. I do grind flax seeds or dried mushrooms with it and make an occasional smoothie for my daughter. -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods' gluten-free Morning Glory Muffins
Juliebove replied to Voix's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sugar counts as a solid. Yes, it melts as it bakes, then then it firms back up. It adds not only sweetness, but texture. Years ago, I made some oatmeal and whole wheat muffins. Sorry, gluten isn't a problem for me. I subbed in applesauce for the eggs and oil. I left out the sugar. And I added a ton of chopped, soaked dried fruit, and or fresh fruit... -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream Yes Or No
Juliebove replied to fran641's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'd say "no". Daughter seems to be able to have it now that she has outgrown her gluten allergy, but prior it made her really sick to her stomach. -
Sorry to hear that. I get nasty comments too from my family. They think they're being funny. Gluten isn't a problem for my daughter any more. It was an allergy, not celiac. But both of us have other food allergies. They will say things like... What if the clerk touched _____ back in 1997? Can you still eat it? They don't understand cross contamination...

ARCHIVED Dessert Ideas
Juliebove replied to clnewberry1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oooh!! I used to LOVE baked apples as a kid. One thing we did for special occasions was fill the middles with red hot candies. I think those are gluten-free.
