ARCHIVED gluten-free, Df, Vegetarians..i Need Dinner Ideas!
Juliebove replied to GFqueen17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like the rice cheese. I have tried almond cheese in the past and liked that too, but I'm allergic to almonds and part of me wants to say it actually had some dairy in it. But I could be wrong. I used to eat soy cheese and liked it, but I have to avoid soy now because it messes with my thyroid. I liked the Parma! faux parmesan but daughter didn't. Then... -
ARCHIVED Cosmetics?
Juliebove replied to Twister2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You need to throw that out and get a gluten free product. It is very easy to get that stuff in your mouth, simply by touching your face later in the day and then touching your lips and licking your lips. And some people react to products applied to the skin. Why take chances? -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oats
Juliebove replied to gflooser's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Because of the way they are grown, processed, transported and stored, they are often contamined with gluten containing grains. They might list only oats, but there could be a speck of something else in there. So they are not safe to eat unless they say gluten free on the package. The growers of gluten free oats grow nothing but oats and are careful in... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free, Df, Vegetarians..i Need Dinner Ideas!
Juliebove replied to GFqueen17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was a vegetarian for many years. My meals were often beans and rice, beans and pasta, soup with popcorn, or a big salad with plenty of beans. If you can have eggs, you can have a frittata. You can buy vegan rice cheese. It's very good. I use it to make nachos (I put beans on them for protein), on pizza and even on sandwiches. There is Parma!, faux... -
ARCHIVED Condensed Cream Of Mushroom Soup
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
What do you put in yours? I remember making it years ago and using those fried onions, but I think there is something in them that one of us is allergic to now. I can't remember what though. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free/df Cream Gravy
Juliebove replied to Chrissyb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bought the cream gravy here: Open Original Shared Link It's really good. I had it with chicken fried steak. If you want to make it from scratch, you can do it using rice milk or soy milk. I don't have an actual recipe. I just do it until it looks and tastes right. Start with whatever kind of grease you can have. If you have chicken fat,... -
ARCHIVED Condensed Cream Of Mushroom Soup
Juliebove posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This one met with daughter's approval. No chunks of anything in it and no celery. I did however make about twice what I needed. I suppose I could have frozen half of it. That didn't cross my mind until just now. Oops! And the amounts are approximate. I didn't actually measure anything. Start with 2 cups of vegetable broth and 1/2 cup plain rice... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Food And Teenagers
Juliebove replied to Picky Eater's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Would she be willing to eat trail mix? This is what I lived off in high school. I hated the school food and hated the idea of lugging a bag of lunch. But trail mix could easily be put in my purse. I would mix up my own using nuts, seeds, sometimes dried fruit, coconut and occasionally chocolate chips. Of course with diabetes, the chocolate and fruit... -
Just found out that husband has been transferred there. Daughter and I do not want to move there but I don't know if it will be feasible for us to stay here. We own our house here so that complicates things. Anyway... If we do have to go there, does anyone know about shopping and restaurants? I tried looking online. It looks like there is a Whole...

ARCHIVED This Week's Gluten Free Menu And Some Recipes
Juliebove replied to RissaRoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've never tried to make Snickerdoodles that are gluten-free. I just buy the Enjoy Life. -
ARCHIVED Breakfast Items?
Juliebove replied to sungold17's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a hard time getting my daughter moving in the morning. If I can get her up, she can have gluten-free pancakes, waffles, French Toast, toast, oatmeal and bacon or ham. Sometimes she just has a banana or other piece of fruit. She can have dairy now so sometimes cottage cheese and fruit or yogurt. Sometimes a bowl of Rice Chex or Pebbles. But most... -
ARCHIVED Side Dishes To Go With Spiral Ham?
Juliebove replied to stolly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I usually serve baked beans with ham and maybe some coleslaw. My daughter loves green beans and will happily those with every meal. -
ARCHIVED Halloween-how'd It Go?
Juliebove replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tootsie rolls were the big thing here with assorted chocolate coming in 2nd. Alas, none of the chocolate was safe for her because of nut allergies. And she can only have Tootsie Rolls twice a week because they have milk in them. -
Millet
Juliebove replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jeepers. Here I was wondering what to do with it. I bought a package to make tabouli with, but daughter refused to eat the stuff. I never got around to making it. She hates tomatoes though so probably wouldn't like it anyway. Then daughter won a bag of it in the stuff from Manna Mills. She got a tote bag of Bob's Red Mill products, including a $2... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated By My Sisters
Juliebove replied to Treen Bean's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sometimes you just can't get through to people. I have a relative with food allergies (not life threatening) who continues to eat the allergens, avoiding them seemingly only when it suits her. She is always baffled as to why she is sick all the time and insists it can't be the food. -
ARCHIVED Halloween Pudding Cups
Juliebove replied to CeliacMom2008's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just curious... How are you going to transport those? I am bringing cookies this year. They are "regular" Halloween ones, individually wrapped, with one plain gluten-free one for daughter. I thought I would be smart and leave them in the back of my van, but driving around with them in there broke 5 of them. Wouldn't you know, the store where I bought... -
ARCHIVED Class Halloween Party
Juliebove replied to mmcdaniels's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter's class had the waffle bowls last year. Guess what? Most of the kids didn't eat the waffle bowls at all! They threw them out. Daughter couldn't have any ice cream last year so I bought her some sorbet in a totally separate container. I just had her eat it out of the container. I think most of the toppings were safe for her. There was caramel... -
ARCHIVED Kissing A Girl With Lip Stick/lip Balm/make Up?
Juliebove replied to pandaman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A lot of lipsticks and balms DO contain gluten, usually in the form of wheat germ oil. We have to check all labels. Daughter and I are also allergic to almonds and sweet almond oil is another ingredient in there. I'm not sure wiping off the lips would be enough. This is a very touchy thing. I guess you would have to stick to kissing her on the cheek... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Won Basket Of Food!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I didn't look very closely at what all was in there. In fact the only thing I remember seeing is the oatmeal. I supect there will be some mixes. I just hope they are some things we can use. She has additional allergies. For instance, Pamela's is out because of the almonds. -
ARCHIVED Daughter Won Basket Of Food!
Juliebove posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We went to a gluten free fair last Saturday and I got a call today telling me that my daughter won a basket of gluten free food. She will be sooo happy! -
We ate at the one in Woodinville tonight. Could not get into the new one in Bothell. They've been packed. We had the lettuce wrapped burgers with the fries on the side. I really could have done without that seasoning. Yuck! There was a canister of it on the table so I could see what it had in it. Not something I would want to eat. Next time (if...

ARCHIVED Corn Chip Problems?
Juliebove replied to julirama723's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy these. Open Original Shared Link They say gluten-free but I see that they also make pretzels with wheat in them. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed W/ Too Many Food Allergies?
Juliebove replied to jsb727's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My daughter was initially diagnosed with IgG allergies to wheat, gluten, peanuts, dairy, eggs, soy and banana. About 4 years later she was tested again. Now it is wheat, spelt, peas, lentils, peanuts and almonds. The Dr. explained that those foods we eat a lot of tend to show as IgG allergies. She said my daughter could resume eating those foods she... -
ARCHIVED Processed On Lines That Use...
Juliebove posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We went to a gluten free fair today. The first sample table had some sort of chew looking snacks that appeared to contain nuts and/or seeds. I picked up one box of a flavor I thought my daughter would like to check the ingredients. As I began to read it, the lady sitting at the table told us they were gluten free. Although I didn't see anything in... -
ARCHIVED Envirokidz Rice Bars Now Have Soy!
Juliebove replied to 2boysmama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought my daughter could handle soybean oil because she has eaten some restaurant food with it in there and not reacted. She outgrew the soy allergy but we still limit its use due to the fact that it seemed to cause a thyroid problem for me. That problem is gone now that I have severely limited it in my diet. At any rate, she reacted badly to these...
