ARCHIVED College And Quick Meals
Juliebove replied to catch 22's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
When I was in college, I lived on salads and trail mix that I made myself. I was always busy and on the go and could keep trail mix in my purse. Nachos are really easy to make in the microwave. Just be sure your chips are the plain ones because the flavored ones can contain gluten. I use rice cheese on mine because I can't have dairy. Also canned refried... -

It might be overheating. Check the vents and clean the dust from them if necessary. That could help, or you could need a new fan. -

We get Bumblebee but in the pouch. We think it tastes better. No soy in it. -
Aaargh! Daughter just saw allergist today and she too shows no food allergies. Just birch, alder and grasses. Not even cat and dog any more. Which is nice. But... She still reacts to these foods. Except perhaps for banana. We don't know about that. Allergist said over the next few years we might try a challenge by giving her one bite of the various...

I get this from eggs. Took me a very long time to make the connection. Mostly it would be when I was on vacation and eating differently than at home. Often I would have a muffin or donut because they were free. I thought it was the sugar in them or something that was making me feel so bad. Then when my daughter was diagnosed with food allergies, I...

ARCHIVED Wow, People Really Don't Get It...
Juliebove replied to samcarter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Twice at two different restaurants I asked, "Are the pork chops breaded? Or plain?" I was told they were not breaded and then they arrived with breading on them. The first time I was told it wasn't with wheat. Just a little bit of flour. Then second time I was told it was just grill seasoning. Whatever that is. But it obviously contained flour. More... -
ARCHIVED Lunch Ideas
Juliebove replied to Lorna Doone's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ian's makes a gluten free kid's meal. It has 3 chicken nuggets, a bit of corn, a bit of mashed potatoes and a small chocolate cake. My daughter likes them. We've also found some from Amy's and Organ at various stores. And there are My Own Meals, some of which are gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link We also eat canned Orgran pasta. -
Thanks for the replies. I wonder why the first Dr. called them allergies then? And when I look it up, it refers to it as an IGg allergy.

ARCHIVED I Need To Pick A Restaurant
Juliebove replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I would beware of the chicken breast. Unless they are cooking it from scratch, it may have wheat in it. Our safe meal is usually a hamburger patty. Also, salads can be risky. If you say "no croutons", they may put them on and then pick them off when they remember. -
I had testing done prior for food allergies and was told I was allergic to eggs, milk and almonds. This was IgG testing. At the time I wasn't aware of a reaction to almonds but I have since eaten some. Spaced out and licked a knife with almond butter and my mouth was burning. Since then, I ate a pistachio and my tongue went numb. The eggs and milk...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Lunches
Juliebove replied to Will The Thrill's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hard boiled eggs, hummus with crackers or raw vegetables, salads, corn chips and nacho cheese or Chreese sauce, 1/2 a melon hollowed out and filled with cottage cheese and berries, or cottage cheese and canned fruit in a thermos. -
She might also try Evening Primrose Oil, 2,000 mg each morning and night. And she might try a chiropractor.

So far I have tried the Parmesan (can't tell it from the real thing...even smells like it), Pizza blend (excellent on pizza), cheddar (tasted fine but arrived melted). Got the Mozarella today as well as the others. Also tried the American. It was good but IMO no better than the rice cheese we already buy. And I don't have to pay postage for that. I... -
ARCHIVED Pizza And Bagels: Can Non-gluten Types Compete?
Juliebove replied to celiachap's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I used to make a Foccacia bread as a crust for pizza. Very good but we can't have dairy so coming up with a good cheese was hard to do. I have since found an excellent substitute for the cheese. I quit making the Foccacia when I discovered the Namaste mix. Very good stuff. But I quit using that when I discovered Ener-G rice pizza shells. Not quite... -
ARCHIVED Hamburg Escallop
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
There wasn't any fat aside from the olive oil because I used very lean beef. You *could* brown it first and probably cook it for less time in the oven, but you'd have little crumbles of meat if you did that. This way you have a huge rectangle (or whatever shape your casserole is) of meat. Like a giant patty. With a potato and onion topping. I think that... -

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Poptarts Substitute?

I can not get a good bisuit recipe but I think it's because of my other allergies. I did find a good dumpling recipe but it doesn't make enough dumplings to suit us. We eat this faux cheese. It's pretty good. Open Original Shared Link Gravy is good too. Haven't tried the other stuff. -
ARCHIVED Hamburg Escallop
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I should add that I used waaaay too much rice milk in this. I kept pouring because I couldn't see how much was in there and then suddenly it was halfway full. Didn't affect the taste any but there was a lot of moisture in it. I drained it off in the sink. Next time I will just do a light drizzle on the top to keep it moist. -
ARCHIVED My First Gluten Free Meal
Juliebove replied to Live2BWell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I find I have to use a lot of sauce or gravy on the pasta I make at home. The Old Spaghetti Factory makes a corn pasta and theirs is good without the sauce. Another thing I've found is I have to add a little more salt to the boiling water than I would with regular pasta. -
ARCHIVED Schools Have To Provide gluten-free Lunch?
Juliebove replied to strawberrygm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter has thermoses so I can send in hot food. I either use leftovers, or cooked rice with a cooked chicken breast chopped up, soup, or some pre-made gluten free meals like chicken and rice, chicken and beans, chili or pasta. She only gets 20 minutes for lunch though and some of that time is take up with writing down the homework assignments for the...
