  1. I'm sure they would work if you like them. We are not squash lovers here. And the only person who will eat sweet potatoes is Angela. She likes them as fries. I can eat them. They don't gag me. I just don't really care for them.
  2. I've had no luck making gluten-free pie dough. Perhaps it is our other allergies. I think I used Spectrum shortening instead of butter or margarine. But now that I think of it...I couldn't make regular pie dough for beans. I resorted to buying pre-made stuff. I'm normally a good baker but I can't do pie dough. Too bad someone hasn't come out with...
  3. I found this recipe online some years ago in a scan of a Lydia Pinkham's book. It's a very old book. I remember making it when Angela was a toddler and it was very good. Now I am remaking it with some variations for our allergies. I love that there are no measurements to do, so you can make it as big or as small as you want and the ingredients are things...
  4. You could try the OTC yeast infection creams. You can also buy special mild soap for yeast infections. I got some online and also some drops to put in my bath. What really helped me was stopping the use of tampons. I don't know why but those seemed to cause yeast infections with me. After I stopped using them, I have had only one and it was related to...
  5. Sorry for the double post. I tried to edit my post and somehow it posted twice.
  6. I wouldn't worry about the food allergies. If I were chosen from an audience, I would just decline because of the food allergies. Frankly there are sooo many allergies out there, if you were to get a person with multiple food allergies like my daughter and myself, you'd have a problem. For instance, you mention milk. You could replace that with soy...
  7. This discussion once came up on the diabetes newsgroup. I was told by several people that by law they have to provide a safe lunch for all children. I don't see how this is possible with someone like my daughter who has multiple allergies. I just wouldn't expect them to do it. AFAIK the only allergy my daughter's school takes into account for lunches...
  8. My kitchen is mostly gluten free. My daughter is the only one who can't have gluten. I buy gluten-free pasta and canned goods. I do buy bread and crackers for myself and my husband. I keep them in one corner of the kitchen and we have a dedicated toaster. Husband is the only one who eats butter so I don't have to worry about CC there. Daughter...
  9. I only use cornstarch if the recipe specifically calls for it. The problem with cornstarch is that it tends to break down when reheated and we often have leftovers. Most of the time I use sweet rice flour.
  10. Do not merely assume that something is gluten free. Old boxes of Rice Chex are not gluten free. Canned beans may or may not be gluten free. Rice Dream rice milk is not gluten free. Not all cheeses or lunch meats are gluten free. Yogurt and chips can contain gluten. Read each and every label each and every time.
  11. I just stumbled across this and boy is it disgusting. Yet another source of gluten. Glad I don't eat butter! Open Original Shared Link
  12. Or dairy free. There's milk in them.
  13. I don't have celiac and that's the reaction I have from them.

    ARCHIVED Pho

Yes. I have seen her site. Pho just isn't something I am interested in making at home. I most likely wouldn't/couldn't eat it and husband would only eat it if very hot/spicy. But thanks!

    Thanks!
  16. One of the first foods I gave my daughter was green beans straight from the can. She could pick them up with her fingers and they were soft enough to chew easily. For years she would pitch a fit if I didn't give them to her with dinner. She now likes wax beans too. I guess I am lucky in that she does eat some vegetables. Like baby carrots. And now...
  17. I watch it but am not so thrilled with it this year. Perhaps because I don't know anyone who is on it. There was one girl who used to be at daughter's studio who came close to getting on it, but her roommate made it instead. And although I don't personally know Ivan from a couple of years ago, I do know his sister. She is also at daughter's studio.
  18. There was a warning here a while back about some powdered sugar containing gluten. I think it was the Walmart brand or perhaps just a brand that they carry. Can't say for sure since our Walmart doesn't have a grocery.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks!

    ARCHIVED Pho

Yes. Daughter generally won't go out to eat with just him unless it is a restaurant we have eaten at before and she knows what is safe to eat. I envision problems in foreign restaurants because the people don't necessarily speak English very well. And even when they do and even in non-foreign restaurants, they don't necessarily understand things like gluten...
  21. I have ordered directly from them. This was prior to food allergies. I got some of the soup, jams and fruit butters, beans and dried vegetables. Probably some other things I can't remember. It was all very good.

    ARCHIVED Pho

My husband keeps bugging me to take our daughter to a local Pho restaurant. He insists there is nothing in the noodles that she is allergic to. However, he has no clue about food allergies or cooking. He once took her for Teriyaki. She is allergic not only to wheat and gluten, but soy and peanuts. Gah! She was sick for two days after that. I looked...
  23. This is how I do it. But I can't use Swanson's due to something else in it. Soy? Maybe. I use Imagine or Pacific broth. For the noodles I often use Tinkyada Little Dreams. Sometimes I use macaroni. Or I take longer pieces and just break them up. I often add a can of peas and carrots and also some onions and maybe some celery.
  24. Red wine is excellent in pot roast. Use about 8 oz. in place of water or broth you might add.
