  1. Could be. I have an almond intolerance and also OAS. I only know of the intolerance due to repeated testing. The OAS came about when I spaced out. I was making an almond butter sandwich for daughter and remembering how I used to like almond butter and how I hadn't had any for years, I licked the residue on the knife. I immediately realized my mistake...
  2. We ate at a steak house once. I didn't ask about the steak because I can't digest steak. I did ask about a hamburger patty and asked what all else we could have. Just a salad with no dressing and a plain baked potato. Woo hoo!
  3. I had bean with bacon soup. Made a big pot of it on Monday but starting to get a tad sick of it by now. Still have another serving. Too bad daughter doesn't like it.
  4. I do not have celiac or AFAIK any gluten issues. Daughter was the one with the gluten issues. But I do have diabetes and daughter has pre-diabetes. For both of us, symptoms were weight gain and darkened skin. We also had extreme hunger. When your blood sugar is high, your cells are essentially starving because they are coated with sugar and nothing else...
  5. I hope your parents do get it. Mine never did and never will. In our case it is not celiac but food intolerances. My mom has them herself but still eats what she shouldn't and then expects sympathy from us when she gets sick. She is getting rather senile so that could be part of it. I was glad when she didn't pitch a fit when I told her she was not allowed...
  6. I have trouble with fats too because a lot of the foods that I prefer to eat are low in fat. Like vegetables. Dieticians would tell me to add margarine to my veggies. And I'd be like... Uh... No! I do try to eat some olives, seeds or nuts every day. I dislike dressing on my salad but if I am eating baby carrots, I will sometimes dip them in a little...
  7. Oh course you can be intolerant to things you've never eaten before. I think you can even be allergic although some people claim otherwise. When I was having chronic yeast infections, I tried an herb to help and noticed that each time I took it my lips got more and more numb. I had a reaction the first time and I am pretty sure that I never had it before...
  8. That's not gluten free if they are cooking the pasta in the same pot as the regular stuff. A lot of restaurants are clueless. As for being legal, it probably is because I don't think they have to declare gluten in foods. But it sure isn't a very nice thing to do. I was watching one of those restaurant shows where they secretly film the employees to see...
  9. I would say that for sure that would be a problem if you are in contact with wheat stuff all the time. Since you now have retail experience, perhaps you should apply at other stores that do not sell food. Or look for another line of work. Or perhaps try to get a different job within your store. But I don't know that there would be one where you wouldn...
  10. I bought unfrozen Udis at Whole Foods and it was moldy by the next day.
  11. I can't really address the tutoring or home schooling. Daughter wants to home school like mad but I think it's a bad idea for her. I can address the psychological aspect though. I took her to the walk in clinic. I can't remember all of what was wrong with her but I do remember her complaining of severe ear pain. Dr. didn't look in her ears but said since...
  12. I can't address the lesions. Because I don't know about that. But she needs to get copies of all labs. If there are vitamin deficiencies, she needs to address that before anything else! I was low in potassium and it left me in horrid pain and unable to walk at all. She also needs to stick to the gluten-free diet. If she doesn't, things won't get any...
  13. I was talking to a woman a few weeks ago who said her Dr. told her she was allergic to carbs. I didn't ask what type of Dr. or what test was done. And I'm pretty sure that she was given a dumbed down version of whatever the problem is for her. But she said after changing her diet she has felt better and is now losing weight. I really do not think there...
  14. I didn't have any cravings whatever when pregnant. But I find that when I do have cravings it means I am deficient in some sort of vitamin. Can you eat white rice? It is what I turn to when my stomach is bad. Either that or a plain potato. I simply do not eat foods that make me sick. I do not like being sick. As for buying stuff for the kids... You...
  15. Daughter liked the Mac and Chreese. I didn't. Tasted to me of mustard but then she likes mustard. I often put ham cubes in it and I think that makes it better. If you like ham. Which I don't. I preferred the Say Cheeze but husband wouldn't eat that because it had hemp seeds in it. You can also make your own with whatever faux cheese you like. I...
  16. But do be careful what you take. I was taking PDA and it was fine but have since switched to Swanson's HCL. Same thing but just not quite as strong. Much cheaper though and so far so good. I have to avoid anything with Bromelain because that gives me horrible gas and stomach pains. And I foolishly tried Pancreatin which is something one might need with...
  17. I must seriously disagree with you! As a person with mulitple medical problems, I was instructed by different Drs. to do research not only for myself but for my daughter. The bad thing about Drs. is that each one has his or her own specialty. They will concentrate on that and tend to ignore all of the other problems. At least in my experience. I have...
  18. He tests everything.
  19. I always get all copies of our labs. Her thyroid appears fine. She hasn't had any C. in years. I can't remember how old she was when she did have that. But the big problem there was that she was not drinking much of anything during the day and when at home she was drinking pretty much only Diet Coke. She would not have so much as a sip of anything before...
  20. Very interesting. I rarely get cravings and when I do, I am always lacking in some nutrient. Like magnesium. I do use the Cron-O-Meter online often and run all of my food through it. I can then see what I am lacking and take more supps if needed.
  21. I only looked into it because I saw it talked about here but the stuff that both of us go through just doesn't seem to apply to either of us. Although I often have skin rashes and tend towards anemia if I don't eat meat (and I don't like meat much), she has no skin problems now aside from some pimples on occasion and oily skin but she is a teen. We do both...
  22. I guess we're lucky in that we didn't eat a lot of bread before daughter was diagnosed. So she didn't miss it all that much. I really only came up with two kinds of gluten-free bread I could bake that tasted good. One was Foccacia. You can use it for sandwiches, pizza, even leave off the savory toppings then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, add nuts...
  23. Not normally humid. No problems with latex, AFAIK. Won't eat any green beans other than canned. Has not had gallbladder checked but this doesn't seem like how it was for my dad when his was acting up. Still will mention it next time she goes in. Thanks!
  24. Daughter is now 14 and has had stomach and other issues her entire life. I tried to breast feed her because allergies run in the family but... I couldn't produce enough milk. I did give her what I had because she preferred it but every kind gave her problems. Anything that was milk based caused projectile vomiting and sometimes the big D. The soy stuff...
  25. Wow! I missed the part about the commissary. That's one reason we stopped shopping there very often. They had no gluten-free pasta or baking stuff. I think they may have had rice noodles in the Asian section but we really don't eat those. And based on how our nearest one (Marysville) looked on our last visit, I rather doubt they would have gluten-free...
