  1. Yep. I have ordered a salad, began eating it and found a shred of cheese in the salad. Even if I stop eating it, that amount of cheese having touched my salad will make me sick. There are dairy free chocolate chips. The one I have bought is Enjoy Life. Most of the grocery stores around here sell them. There are others but they are not safe for us and...
  2. I think it is really easy to make. I saw a woman on TV making baby food cereal just by whizzing some rice in the blender. You could try that.
  3. Wow! That must be tough! I have seen some rice that is sold in paper bags. But even when you buy something in bulk, it is usually sold from a plastic container. Is it all plastics you must avoid? Or just some of them? And what do you do for a living where you can avoid plastic? And how are you even posting here? Is there a computer or a keyboard or...
  4. We used to have one but it was no good. The lady who owned it has actually moved to a new location and although I think she does still sell some savory items, it is mostly a bakery and I think they have only a couple of tables. I wouldn't go there if you paid me. She now also advertises that at least some of her things are dairy and egg free. But here...
  5. For baking in the oven, I preferred a corn and quinoa macaroni that I got from the health food store. We liked the taste better and it really holds up well. Alas, daughter is now intolerant to quinoa so... No go for that. I don't know that I have actually seen any macaroni in the Tinkyada. I have used their lasagna though and maybe I cooked it too long...
  6. That's true but I also would not be so hasty to file a complaint about this either. She may or may not be being discriminated against but even if she is, we don't know that celiac is the cause.
  7. I really wish more hospitals would do what Children's in Oakland does. They had everything listed as a side dish. You could get black olives, green beans, baby carrots, string cheese, all sorts of things like that. Of course there is still a chance of cc but you know that you are getting whole foods.
  8. If they were instant they could have. I don't know of any at the moment that do but when my daughter was diagnosed some years ago, some brands did.
  9. Stuffy nose. Ear and sinus infections. The big D.
  10. My daughter did well with South Beach for a while. Sadly her weight loss has stalled but I think she is eating too much of some things. Particularly applesauce! The first two weeks are mostly low carb and then you add in good carbs, slowly. Such as brown rice, quinoa and sweet potatoes. You can also have gluten-free oats so long as they are not the...
  11. I do have different reactions to different foods. That is how a dairy reaction is for me. An egg reaction is usually more delayed and so violent that I have vowed never to eat anything that might even be cc with egg. Other things give me an itchy throat or nose or a rash.
  12. Staten Island is still a mess! They only just got to it today but... Having lived there myself, I can see why. There probably really was no way to get onto the island! My husband is currently living there and went to PA this weekend where he is from. I am rather ticked about that. I think he should have stayed put...especially with all the looting around...
  13. I must agree with you there. I have been given much bad advice from Drs. and mostly I won't take dietary advice from them. When my daughter was first diagnosed with a wheat/gluten allergy, the Dr. told me to give her spelt. So I ran out and bought spelt bread. Imagine my surprise when she got sick to her stomach! I didn't realize that spelt was wheat...
  14. Oh wow! This flour thing is even making less sense now. Using this theory then any cooked food would be *dead*. That would pretty much mean going on a raw vegan diet. And I did try that but trust me it does not work for gastroparesis. I saw a link recently that says they have now found that all cooked foods have more nutrients in them than raw ones...
  15. Yeah. But frankly with gastroparesis, almonds in any form could be problematic due to their fiber and fat content. Since I am intolereant to almonds I do not eat them in any form. But I do know if I eat too much peanut butter at once, it will come right back up.
  16. The flour thing just makes no sense. Assuming that one does not have celiac or a wheat/gluten intolerance, then white bread should be perfectly fine as should plain crackers. Not only are they easy to digest but they are foods that are recommended for an upset stomach. White rice, tapioca or potato flours are easily digested too. Unless of course one...
  17. I very much agree! I do think just based on some of the things I do and how I feel that I do in fact have Orthorexia and not just based on the foods that I have to avoid for medical reasons. But I also think it was because of the medical reasons that I came to that point. I also think that for some people, the reason they do get to that point does have...
  18. That's exactly how I feel! I still haven't finished the book. It is a book that is so riveting to me that I do not want to skim it as I often to with books. He mentions most every kind of diet there is, including raw vegan, macrobiotic, the Zone, and tells not only what is so appealing about the diet but what is actually good and bad about the diet. He...
  19. Yes! I was trying to find out more about this online but everything I read tracks back to this one man. He keeps making references to patients who have what he calls food allergies and that their symptom was asthma. As I said before I have never had asthma. But I did once have pneumonia that turned into bronchitis. I had to go on a nebulizer and that...
  20. I too have used the Black Jewel. My favorite popcorn comes from the health food store around the corner. The owner has celiac so I know it is safe. They buy it in bulk and package it there. It is soooo fresh and tasty. But I guess if you don't live where I do, you couldn't get that.
  21. I guess you would have to read the book to know what I am saying. I do find it to be a very interesting book, despite not agreeing with all of it. He is saying that if you avoid some social situations because of the food there or if you bring your own food to say...a party then you have this problem. Of course there is a lot more to it than that. What...
  22. Oddly enough he has diagnosed himself as having had it but... He did not have the medical issues. So perhaps then for a person without the medical issues it could be a true disorder? He said he was eating a vegan diet and would stop eating before he was full. I do know people who eat similarly to this. My mom had a friend who did what she called "gentle...
  23. According to his test there is no question that I do have it. I have gone to extremes on some fronts. For instance, I used to be what I would call an enabler when it comes to food. I do like to cook. I used to bake up a storm and make all sorts of candies and give them to people. Apparently I was good at it becuase people used to order things from me...
  24. For those of you who don't know what this is, here is a link: Open Original Shared Link I am reading a book by this man. And I got the book because I felt that I might have it. And the more I read, the more I do think I have it. But is it fair to classify this as an eating disorder to those of us with food allergies/intolerances/other medical problems...
  25. Are you taking the brand name? I ask because I had been using the Kirkland brand from Costco and it didn't seem to be effective. Then I read somewhere (was it here?) that it contained dairy. And indeed it does! I had to switch to another brand. I can not have peppermint because I am intolerant to it. But a nurse suggested to me that I try weak black...
